4500 hz Mod for B and K Type AA/A Crossovers with CT125

Recommended Posts

Here is a bit of a DIY project for those of you who have a pair of my Type AA/A convertible crossovers and a pair of my CT125 tweeters. This would not apply exactly the same way to original or rebuilt original type AA crossovers. The rest of you may avert your eyes.

This mod will lower the crossover frequency from squawker to tweeter and roll off the squawker gently above 4500 hz.

OK. First picture is the Mod Kit.

Step 10: Connect the white jumper wire from the bottom 2 uF capacitor right side terminal to the top 2 uF capacitor right side terminal. That places the two 2 uF caps in parallel to make a 4 uF capacitor.

Bob,

Great tutorial! What and how much of a difference does the added coil for the 4500 hz Mod make to the squawker?

Soundbound,

I know you directed this question to Bob, but I wanted to throw in my $0.02.

The K55 driver naturally poops out at 6000hz. It sounds o.k. It wasn't until I dropped in the inductor for the squawker that I noticed that the K55 sounds much better not asked to run until it runs out at 6000hz. The narrower bandwidth is very friendly, IMO, to the K55.

In a conversation with a Klipsch engineer, he mentioned that Klipsch had also figured that out some time back and made the AK-4 network cross at 4500hz.
