Floorstanding as rears?

Would it better to use floorstanding speakers (CF-4's) as rears and side surrounds in a 7.1 set up, or smaller speakers (KV-4's) that you can get up in the air? Meaning; would the seating block the sound coming from behind and beside of you if the speakers are on the floor instead of in the air like in a normal theatre?

By all means, mount them up high if the speaker will otherwise be blocked. Towers are great as surrounds, but not if they will be blocked by obstructions. If your speakers are at ear level, the chair you're sitting in wont block the sound. If there are other obstructions, then you'll want to mount something higher.

With today's surround sound formats and mixes the more of a full range speaker that you can have as surrounds the more you'll benefit from it.

If you are able to use floorstanders without having them obstructed by furniture, by all means do it. And if you are able to use the same speakers as your front mains, even better.

And if you are able to hook up 2 sets of side surrounds (shown above), you start reaching the Peak, in this adventure we call Home Theater. [:)]
