ahhh, heavenly sound at last!

Man, I've been longing for decent amplification and bass management for quite a while now and it seems this 'new' Denon AVR-3300 is going to hold me over for quite a while. Man oh man is it such a pleasant upgrade.

And while I'm at it, here's a shoutout to Jorjen on the forums for an insanely overkill packing job...I was too eager to get the unit out and hooked up, but here's a picture of the aftermath:

Ok, slight delay on the pictures...my only camera is on my cell phone and I have to email them to myself in order to get them off the phone - seems to be lost in voodoo somewhere.

CONGRATS DOC! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. At long last, so you have you entered the true age of HT now?

Sounds like I'll have to make a road trip up to college soon to hear your new setup and check out the crib. Make sure to have hot pizza and babes ready, k?

lol Mike, you're always welcome to come visit. I've got clean sheets

now so you are more than welcome to spend the night too. I can

definetly have the hot pizza ready and we'll have to see about the

babes... [;)]

Here are some specs on the reciever...

Archived page on the Denon Website:

http://usa.denon.com/ArchivedAVReceivers.asp?archivedModelSearch=true&clearCurrent=true&archivedCategory=AV&archivedModel=AVR-3300&imageField.x=12&imageField.y=8

Basic overview of the layout / cool block diagram:

http://usa.denon.com/avr3300_technotes.pdf

And then the whole fricken manual:

http://usa.denon.com/avr3300_ownersmanual.pdf

(which btw I even got the original manual with this purchase...)

One downside to the reciever is that the analog inputs get converted to

digital and then back to analog on the other side. It's not a huge deal

in my application, but apparently some of the newer recievers have a

direct analog path. But the upside to this is that they use extra good

DAC's [H]

Another thing about this reciever is that the sub-out runs way hotter

and can actually drive the input impedance of my Crown XLS402 (the amp

powering my subs). I might even be able to bypass the 8 channel mic

mixer that I've been using to boost the signal (which means even less

noise and a lot more bass cuz it rolls things off a bit). The crossover

point is limited to 80Hz, but that's where it should be anyway.

But enough techo mumbo jumbo...time to enjoy music for a short time

until my ears become acquainted to the new distortions and I feel the

need to upgrade again.

So when you gonna give me some tips on Yes music to purchase? Even made

a whole thread in the music section and been waiting for your response

[;)][:P]

Btw, I haven't even finished hooking up the bloody thing. Just got all

my speakers connected and then a single digital coax cable running from

my computer to the reciever. The only thing annoying so far is that the

reciever's setup menu uses OSD...and right now my current configuration

doesn't support running the video through the receiver and then into

the TV (ya, it's complicated). I need to build a new desk and rotate 90

degrees and then build an equipment rack and then I'll be close enough

to the TV to make it feasible (and not take up the entire living room

in the process).

But when I do hook up the video cable I've got a butt nasty ground loop

problem...I need to get some of those isolator dohickers for the cable

box. I run my subwoofer amp which is in another room at full volume so

a full input signal will send about 1500W into my subwoofers. You can

imagine what happened when I plugged in that video cable and completed

the ground loop...yowsers!

Ahhhhh.....YES!

I havn't spoken with you before Dr Who, but, have you listened to much YES?

Pardon me if you already know this...so...most of Yes music is very inticate and detailed. ANY cd or album I'm sure will please you, if you like Yes music. Seems you either love it or hate it.

If you like live music, my latest favorite Yes is "Yes at the House of Blues".

I'm not sure the name of the CD right now but I really enjoy a DVD-A they have. The basss is phenominal in one song....some of the lowest I have ever heard.

Enjoy

Phil

The Denon AVR-3300 retailed for $1K and sold for around $750 so it is a very nice receiver. It is what I started with and is now part of my Bedroom system with 7 old school Infinity speakers and a CV 10" subwoofer. Still works and sounds great.

Congrats on the nice receiver. I just bought another Onkyo TX-SR503 on uBid for $169 that I am going to use in my basement. Can't beat the price and 7 X 75W to boot.

Ok, so here's the first pic. It isn't totally apparent, but the reciever was put in a bag and then wrapped up with bubble wrap and taped super hardcore. This contraption then had styrofoam blocks all around it (like what comes in the original packing) and then this whole wad of crap was surrounded by many inches of foam inside a most durable box. The remote was in a plastic ziploc bag and also wrapped in bubble wrap. And the user's manual was tucked in with the reciever so that it wouldn't get all bent up.
