colterphoto1
Age 93. May he rest in peace. Let's be respectful of our former leader and leave this non-political please. These excerpts from news services: Ford was in the White House only 895 days, but changed it more than it changed him. Even after two women tried separately to kill him, his presidency remained open and plain. Not imperial. Not reclusive. And, of greatest satisfaction to a nation numbed by Watergate, not dishonest. Even to millions of Americans who had voted twoyears earlier for Nixon, the transition to Ford's leadership was one ofthe most welcomed in the history of the democratic process - despitethe fact that it occurred without an election. After the Watergate ordeal, Americans liked their new president - and first lady Betty, whose candor charmed the country. In a long congressional career in which he roseto be House Republican leader, Ford lit few fires. In the words ofCongressional Quarterly, he "built a reputation for being solid, dependable and loyal - a man more comfortable carrying out the programsof others than in initiating things on his own." boom3
His family, particularly Jack and Betty, need to be recognized for their courage to speak frankly about alcoholism, drug use and breast cancer.

The forum auto-censored the kind of cancer Betty Ford was so open about...oh c'mon folks, we're adults here and don't need to be protected from that word...[*-)]

Seadog
I took this photo of President Ford in 1976 - in the rain (Conroe, Texas). I was only 16 at the time, but I thought he was a good President. Rest in Peace Mr. President.
WMcD
I happened to be at the Museum of the War in the Pacific, located in Fredricksburg, Texas, a couple of days ago. There was a picture of then Commander Ford on duty, He too was one of the greatest generation of Americans. It difficult to gauge the amount of distrust going on in the days of Nixon-Agnew-Watergate. But the Congress had to find someone to trust to put in line to take over the Presidency. That was Mr. Ford. Gil
