mikebse2a3
Not sure if anyone has posted this sight before but it is very interesting to see these past designs. http://www.lowthervoigtmuseum.org.uk/index.html mike tn[] This Lowther Hegeman reminds me of a blend between the shape of the Belle Klipsch and (looking into the LF horn mouth) the folding of a Jubilee. In 1951 Lowther released the incredible "Lowther Hegeman" reproducer at £150-0s-0d, which was three-times the price of a Lowther Voigt domestic corner horn. This monster measured four feet wide, four feet tall and two feet deep. The newly-developed PM4A drive unit was fitted inside a large horizontal plaster horn, giving an amazingly wide dispersion of mid and treble frequencies. The design of this speaker resulted from a collaboration between the American Stuart Hegeman and Donald Chave of Lowther
Chris A
The JBLHartsfield also looks vaguely reminiscent. Chris
seti
When was that website launched? It has been long over due. The last exhaustive search I did was six months ago when Hunter posted some documents about Voigt from the Klipsch files. Thank you so much for posting this link. seti
Pics from Hope over the years of Voigt/Lowther Lowther Voigt TPA Original Tractrix Early Cornerhorn 1930's According to the Lowther site there were only about 300 of these domestic corner horns made and to be able to see three in person was truly a rare experience. The original tractrix horn is very very rare also.
fini
I had an unusual toilet made by them. The John Voight always acted weird. Also as well too, there was a splinter group that made wooden toilets, the Birch John Society.
fini
All kidding aside, that Lowther/Voight is about the coolest speaker I've seen. Very Jetson-istic!
WMcD
Thanks, Mike. That Hegeman is astonishing to a Belle lover. It is like finding a picture of an ancestor and he looks like the decendent but more dramatic. Maybe some day Klipsch will bring back the Belle with a sophisiticated treble horn. That horn could go on the home Jubliee too. Smile, Gil
