Want to upgrade my Synergy 5.1 to 7.1, but what?

I currently have a 5.1 Synergy setup and planning to get a Onkyo 706 to make good use out of my PS3.

Should I get the inwall SCW-2, SB-2 or SB-3 to make it a 7.1?

I say the SB2. In walls are great, but then you gotta put in the work to cut your walls. And there is NO need to have your stoutest speakers as rear surrounds, so the SB3's would be over kill. I would only use bookshelves as rear surrounds as well. (THX recommends it)

I actually have 2 mint SB-2's for sale with stands if you are interested and local, (Indy), that would be perfect.

Looking at your system I would say the SB 3 are overkill. I think the SB 2 , even the SB 1 would do just fine.

I am still debating. I am remodeling my ground floor and will have a 12x17 dedicated room for home theater. I will must likely to go with the in wall scw-2 since the room size only has 12 ft wide.

The rear surrounds should be behind you on the back wall though... not saying in-walls wouldn't work, but that the width of the room wouldn't be as much a factor in choosing the rears...

Ok, Now i am confused. I have ss-1 for rear already. I thought 7.1 setup from a 5.1 upgrade is by adding 2 more speakers for the sides. Is this correct?

Edit: Technically, the surrounds go on the sides slightly behind your listening area in 5.1. 7.1 adds two rear speakers to the mix.

Oh,interesting. Thanks for the links. If that's the case, wouldn't another pair of SS-1 do the job?

They would work, but the recommendation for a 7.1 setup is to use side surrounds such as the SS1 that are of a wide dispersion design and rear surrounds that are more of a bookshelf type speaker such as the B1, B2, etc.
