  1. Until recently I was using white Quintets as "B" surround speakers ("A" surrounds are RB5s) in combination with a Infinity center channel CC1 servinf as rear center. The front speakers are RF3/RC3. This set up worked out very nicely for me for both movies and music. I have sold the Quintets recently since I am totally re-doing my setup. That CC1 center channels is available for anyone that might be interested.
  2. You can also add Philips MatchLine series direct view to your list. Personally I had experience with Sony Trinitron tubes and was always happy with them.
  3. Congratulations, man! Nice photos. One question though - RF7s in your room look suspiciosly like Bose satellites ... ok, just kidding ...
  4. Steeler, before you give on this gear check one thing out: is your power clean? DO you have light dimmers in this room? Do you have power line conditioner? A friend of mine had exactly the same story with the Outlaw amps. He even exchanged the first amp and still was geting the same hum. He was also about to send the stuff back to Outlaw when I advised him to power the amps through the PLC. It worked - all the hum was gone. Later I found out he had a light dimmer. He took it off and replaced with a regular switch. This helped also. Now he is a happy owner of separates. Try this out before you send the stuff back.
  5. Happy Easter to all good people!
  6. Moon, great to hear you have set aside all doubts and are already implementing the new set up. As I was reading this very imteresting thread, a crazy/silly/(your definition) idea came to my mind. I have never heard anyone suggest it, nor do I know anyone to try it. Just for the sake of theoretical discussion, Moon, what do you think would happen if you would mount two RS7s back to back in the center just above the seating places. So that the RS7s would be actually facing the side walls? Given the narrow long room, what kind of surround effect that might have created? :) OK, ok, looks like I am smoking dope here ......... So much for brainstorming for this weekend.

Wishful thinking Hard ... LOL Once you will get your RF7 setup, it will not take long before you will notice how revealing this system is, and it will become quite apparent that you need to upgrade the DVD player, receiver, TV, room acoustics, .............................................
  8. Hard, you probably have to address this question back to that guy. I dont believe anyone here will know what that guy was thinking about when he said that. Or, ..was he thinking then?
  9. OK, OK, so where's the B-Day cake?
  10. Euell, a much better option is to try it out at your home with your speakers. Listening in the store is quite a different experience compared to in-home auditioning.

THey actually have a screw on adapter from a pin connector to a banana plug. I think this just adds to the chances of poor contact. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, so take a look.

  13. Not quite, Tripod. How about the very first post: ... I got the GLS Audio banana plugs today, hooked them all up to my speaker wire, and watched Titan AE, everything sounded perfect, not a thing out of place... Maybe I misread it, but i thought someone is trying to promote the banana plugs that make everything sound "perfect". Well, I am glad everyone is with me on this - banana plugs are for convenience mostly.

Fortunatly I have not recieved my front channels yet(any day now), so I have not yet hooked it all up.I am just getting into the HD/HT technology, so when I read about dolby prologic and DTS and neo6 and THX..5.1 ,7.1 lol Its just mindboggling trying to compute everthing at once. I am trying to run a 5.1 HT for now. ---------------- Skid, dont read too much into this. All you need to ensure is that your speakers are properly set up (channel levels, delay, Bass management). Once you hook everything together you will be playing with all these modes and eventually will pick the one you like most. I will try to suggest which multichannel modes you will likely be using most assuming you have a 5.1 setup: - for music - Dolby Prologic II Music or DTS Neo Music (sonicly very similar, personally slightly prefer DDPLII to Neo). Also, depending on your receiver, you might have other modes like 5/7 Channel Stereo (like my Denon offers) which is a nice mode as well. - for movies - my all time favorite is DTS (whenever a DVD has a DTS track). In all other cases either DDPLII Cinema or DTS Neo CInema will be fine. Since you dont have rear surround speakers, DTS-ES and Dolby Digital EX modes are not applicable (tracks encoded in these two modes will be downmixed to regular DDPLII or DTS Neo respectively). Also, there are ususally some DSP modes (Hall, Stadium, etc) but I personally almost never use those (exception: when watching an old movie with a mono audio track I turn on Mono DSP mode on my Denon to have the sound coming out of all speakers). Ok, hopefully I did not help in further confusing you
  15. Moon, doesn't the tapered array design interfere with RC7 functioning as a main or surround speaker? Just curios. As far as I know, and I may be wrong, tapered array design is implemented on Center channels speakers only to emphasize frequencies within the normal human voice range. If main and surround speakers do the same, wouldnt that affect the frequency response?
  16. Guys, while I am happy to hear all your enthusiasm about these plugs, but please, don't over-rate them either. These are just plugs, for Christ's sake. The fact that your music sounds nice has the least to do with those plugs. There are only two types of plugs: really crappy ones, and all the rest that do the job as expected. Obviously these banana plugs fall in the second category, but dont think that if you get these plugs instead of the ones you have currently you will hear something that was hidden or lost before. There are far too many weaker links in the chain than plugs. All a plug needs to do is to ensure a tight contact with the binding post. Period. Ok, you might get some gold plated ones for better look and arguably for better conductivity. But thats it. The kind of plugs I would stay away from are the ones you can see on many of the Monster cables (screw on design).
  17. Or, ..perhaps a slightly beter version of the same idea ... make the RC7 a semi inwall speakers ... cutting the rectangular opening in the wall and installing the speakers perhaps half way inside ... ok , so much for brainstorming ...
  18. Not suggesting, rather thinking outloud ... what if you would mount the RC7s flush to the wall, but made round holes in the drywall, slightly bigger than the rear port exhausts ... then the low fequency energy would go inside your side walls, perhaps turning them into sort of extension of the speakers ... would you just lose those frequencies .. or would it sound boomy ... no clue, just a thought ...
  19. Thanks, Sakura Just downloaded the utility, will try it out later. I own a couple of smaller LCD monitors from Princeton and HP and visually they have no dead pixels either. But with much bigger LCD TV, I just want to know for sure. Btw, if anyone is in the market for a medium size LCD TV, I would like to suggest to take a closer look at Sceptre 30" on sale at Costco web site for much under $2K. Although I have yet to see this baby, it does sound like a great deal. And in the worst case, I can always drop it off at the nearest costco store.
  20. Guys, just ordered an LCD TV and while awaiting its arrival, would like to ask you whether you know of any good PC (not Mac) utility to check the LCD screen for any dead pixels or sub-pixels. Thank you in advance.
  21. Opinions on this will differ depending on tastes. I went through a few universal remotes, and in the end none really grew on me. Perhaps the better ones are Home Theater Master remotes, like MX500 or MX700. Google them up.
  22. I agree with Mike too. They are in a different class. These Axioms could probably be compared to RF5s, not RF7s. Having said that, I do hear these speakers quite often, my buddy has them at home along with the biggest Axiom center channel speaker (forgot the number), and I believe he ordered their Q8s (not sure if that is the correct model number of their quadruple surrounds. Anyway, since he still does not have surrounds, I mostly listen to then in a stereo setup. I have to say they sound really good. Very solid speakers, they go quite low, have tight base, sufficient highs. I was especially impressed with the center channel speaker. Very articulate. What puts me off a little is their cheapie vynil finish. I understand Axiom tried to save on that, but when speakers deliver such nice sound and look like crap, that is not a decent combination. Klipsches, aside from being far better sonically, are also great looking speakers. I am particularly impartial to Cherry finish. My local dealer has RF7 Cherry in their demo room, so once in a while I go there and spend some time listening to them and dreaming of a day when I will be able to afford them
  23. Marshal, those WMV discs were mastered differently. White T2 Extreme was meant to be played on PCs exclusively, these new WMV-HD discs like Coral Reef Adventure, and few others coming up, are designed to be played back in both PCs and stand alone DVD players that have the WMV decoding capability. One major difference is the digital copy protection algorithm. ON T2 Extreme a license to play back that movie had to be acquired online, therefore the PC had to be connected to the internet to playback the movie. These new WMV discs do not require Internet connection, they have the DRM right there on the disc. Clearly this is a step in the right direction. Should more WMV discs appear on the shelves, and more WMV capable DVD players, then we will HD much faster than we thought. I for one do not fight the format wars (WMV vs HD-DVD vs whatever else) - let them all come and compete for our money
  24. Hmm, if this thread stays around for a little longer, we will be sending each other Christmas congratulations all over again ... As for the topic of this thread, my take on it is that Klipsch speakers are so good, there is no brand of receivers that can keep them from doing their thing ..
  25. Thank you all guys for your responses. I am still evaluating a few options related to my move. There is a possibility that instead of shipping the speakers I will have to sell them all. The reason is that I am moving internationally and am really concerned not only about the shipping part per say but customs as well. Anyway, should I decide to sel them (RF-3s (2), RC-3II (1), RB-5II (2)), I will post the note here.
