  1. That's amazing, I don't think it's worth the money spent but to each his own! I enjoy the heck out of looking at it and reading about it! I would imagine it's some super clean, low distortion bass once it's dialed into the rest of the system.
  2. Welcome to the forums and welcome back to Klipsch speakers! You didn't mess around, it sounds like you have an amazing theater room and system!
  3. Edit: I actually clicked on the link you provided in the first post and now I see what Paradigm speakers he had so now I'm no longer confused. I kept thinking he previously had Signature bookshelves which cost about 2k a pair and I couldn't figure out why he got switched to the bottom of the line Energy speakers and why there is any talk of a budget issue lol. I kept thinking, man if he is spending 2k for a pair of bookshelves, anything you suggest from Klipsch will be fine! It's cleared up now, my fault for blowing thru the thread and skipping the links!
  4. I don't know anything about the Energy speakers but I have the best Paradigm bookshelves they make other than the Signature line S2 and I doubt he had those. The Paradigm Studio 20 that I have are amazing for near field monitor use, I use them on my computer about 4-5 feet from me. They would be horrible for home theater esp. in a big room. They just can't put out the SPLs, they start breaking up at very low volume. Anything by Klipsch would be a huge improvement. These AV companies are more into aesthetics and functionality than they are sound from what I have seen over the years.
  5. I think you're on the right track with moving the speakers to the top shelves. I guess you need to figure out his budget, he obviously spent some coin on this build out. I think I would consider looking at the THX speakers if they would fit up top or possibly three RC-64ll's as your front three? I would suggest three Epic line CFs since you could just rotate the center horn and have a perfect three speakers on their side but finding them would be pretty hard. I wonder how three RC-64s would sound, I think I remember someone using three RC-7s back in the day and liking it.
  6. I ordered it a few days ago based on this review as well! I am always searching for awesome concert Blu-rays, the problem is they are few and far between.
  7. The PSA XS-30 looks like a sick subwoofer and the price is unbelievable esp. considering it's free shipping! I am assuming it's pretty awesome or you wouldn't be switching from the Empires. Good luck with your sale, that's a nice price for dual Empires.
  8. Yessir, what you seek is a Harman Kardon AVR.
  9. I'll just repeat what everyone is saying, you can never have too much power IMO. I am running 425 watts a channel to a pair of Chorus ll's and it is amazing.
  10. Daniel Day-Lewis is an amazing actor. He has been one of my favorites for a long time. Looking forward to this movie!
  11. I have both as well and one thing I have noticed is... when I'm watching a football game on my Sharp LED, you can see the clumps of grass, the blades of grass, every little detail of the field. I can not see that on my plasma, my lcd or my CRT rear projection.
  12. I have the Sharp Aquos Quattron LC-70C8470U in my theater room right now. I like it, the picture is great IMO. I wish I would have gotten the 80" though because it's back-lit instead of edge lit.
  13. You found an amazing deal, the grandson had nothing vested in the speakers and you have nothing to be ashamed of. I would have snatched them up faster than he could count the $150!
  14. I have been looking at KIDD 10/22's for awhile. My buddy has a sweet 10/22 with an internally suppressed barrel, that thing is sweet. Quite the collection you have there!
  15. We watched about 30-40 minutes of it tonight. The bass is crazy, the audio/video is amazing quality. I love the Dolby intro!
  16. Yes I have an Armalite AR-10, Wilson Combat 6.8, Just Right Carbine AR-45 and two nice "Noveske" lowers I'm about to build out into a 300 blackout and the other into a .223. Pistol wise I have a Nighthawk Predator ".45acp", Dan Wesson CCO".45acp", FN 5.7, Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm with Viking Tactics sights, two Sig Sauer P238s and a Walther P22. I also have a few shotguns, my favorite being my Saiga 12 with 20 round drums. I want a big nasty pistol, my neighbor has a few .50 hand cannons lol. Smith & Wesson has a few nice revolvers I would like to have, one being The Alaskan Backpacker, I think it's a snub nose .44 mag. Another I would love to have on my night stand is their Governor with Crimson Trace laser grips. It's like the Judge by Taurus but holds one more round and is made better. It can hold .45ACP, .45 Long Colt or .410 shotgun shells. I like the idea of being able to reach over and grab that thing in the middle of the night and just point the laser in the direction of the doorway at 4am and fire off six rounds of .410 buckshot/slugs at an intruder if I had to lol. Ahhhh, I love guns almost as much as I love my audio/video hobby. You're right about car audio, my buddy is into the whole competition thing right now actually and he's hitting 159ish if I'm not mistaken with two 15s in his Dodge 1500. The box is huge, he took out the whole back seat. I would imagine TheEar can hit that kind of bass in his house.
  17. I must have misunderstood what you meant, you are correct, I wear ear protection when I shoot and it would be a little absurd to need it in my theater room as well. I just meant it is reproduced accurately at the db it's played back at. I never meant to suggest my system will reproduce the sound of my AR-10 .308 at 156db lol.
  18. I don't know that's a tricky one, gun shots sound pretty real in my room and I shoot a lot! I ***** shoot and target shoot both. I think it's a nice blend between the RF-7s and the Empires when it comes to gun shots in my room. Gun shots cover a lot of range in sound, the sub is only part of it. If you have Open Range on Blu-ray, they have very real gun fights. That's an awesome movie IMO for both entertainment and demo purposes. As for a Top Fuel dragster, I don't think I have seen any nicely recorded material to test it!
  19. I think this might be the first time I have ever heard or read about anyone crossing over RF-7s so high. I am not trying to doubt your findings btw, it just goes to show you how different peoples room can be I guess. I find I like my RF-7s crossed over at 50 the best in my room.
  20. You cross your RF-7s over at 100?
  21. I think I've seen this pic years ago, very cool!
  22. Those were my exact thoughts when I was shopping for a sub for my room. I did a ton of research before I bought and I knew I was giving up a little of the bottom feeding for a very musical sealed sub. If you look at the sub shootouts on AVS, the Epik Empire actually had the most kick in the chest when listening to music according to one listener. It still digs down below 15 HZ which is enough for me and my HT needs. I wanted the most musical sub that could hold it's own in a HT room and I got exactly what I was looking for IMHO. It's like anything, you have to find out what is the most important to you in your room and go from there. Lot's of good options out there it just depends on your budget and wants/needs.

    Run away sub

Yes I think the room plays a major part and the type of sub as well. I think the fact that my Empires have 15's firing out of both sides makes it a little more difficult to sit them next to each other as well.

    Run away sub

I'm not Youthman but here is what happened in my room. I un-stacked my Empires and put them side by side and lost a ton of bass, so much that it was sad, very sad. I left it like that for about a month and then finally took the time to stack them again and BAM, in your face, more bass than anyone could ever need. So in my room with Empires, stacked is amazing, side by side they seem to almost cancel each other out.
  25. Just ordered it, thanks for the heads up! I'm always looking for great Blu-rays! I as well have been following the JTRs, seems like a lot of people are loving them, what really caught my attention was the guy that went from Revel Ultima Salon 2s to the JTRs and said it was an upgrade!
