  4. Interesting information, Thanks, Moon
  5. great explanation, Tom, I should put a set on my '95 Escort. I think the Lola was driven by Mark Donahue or John Surtees- I've got their autographs but don't have the program for that year, just the '65 one and some photos from that year too. Here's a few links on the Lola, Mark Donahue and the Chaparrals. Who was into the slot cars? - Monogram - - Revell - Dynakit - and the big tracks in the old bowling alleys? Here's a few links on the Lola, Mark Donahue and the Chaparrals. http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/frame.mv?file=car.mv&num=259 http://www.motorsportshalloffame.com/halloffame/1990/Mark_Donahue_main.htm http://www.petroleummuseum.org/Chaparral/Chaparralhome.html
  6. scp, I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. As heartaching as it hurts right now, Lizzie will always be with you in thought and memory the rest of your life. The pain goes away and you remember the good and carry those thoughts with you always. here's a site that helped me out during a tragic time in December. http://www.petloss.com/poems/maingrp/rainbowb.htm You take care now. 7. all original photos by Hamish at age 16 - Mosport, Sept. '66
  8. When I was a kid in '65 and '66, I used to go to Mosport too. I had pit passes and got in to see the cars and drivers. Somewhere, I've still got original photos of the cars closeup, pit action, a program and autographs from the drivers. Jim Hall and his Chaparral 2C's and 2D's were heartstoppers. There's a special section devoted to the Chaparrals in the Petroleum Museum in Midland, Texas. I think they're online too. A factory Ford GT40X was also raced - it was the only open top GT40 ever produced. The first Porsche Carrera 6's were raced there. Lola T-70's - I think one was driven by Bruce McLaren. When Can-Am died out, the formula 1 and Indy took over. I went to a couple of those too in the mid-70's. Wild, wild parties the night before with thousands staggering around the track in the dark, then race day. Hamish
  9. Crown DC300A - got one in 1976 - that's 28 years - still rocking away
  10. Hi there, These are my opinions based on experience. I've been running a Yamaha RX1300 for about a year and a half. No technical problems or repairs. Only negatives are binding posts that are too close, hard to read orange receiver display (although on screen display is great), and an overly complicated remote. Maybe with the 3300, they have this rectified by now. I bought this one because it had the multichannel pre-amp outs that I still might use some day. I'm now running a Reference 3 system with them after using two other speaker setups. For home theater, there is lots of detail, great imaging, and a seamless roomfilling quality that adds to the realism. For music, I find the 6 channel entertainment dsp setting works really well. If not that, I switch back to the two channel stereo mode (for which most music was mixed for). I hope this information helps. Good luck with your choice. Slainte. Hamish
  11. Glad to hear that Heart can still put on a great show. I saw them in Vernon, British Columbia at a small concert in fall of 1975. 'Crazy on You' had been released as a single in Canada at that point but the album 'Dreamboat Annie' wasn't out yet. Sound quality was incredible - full stereo mix - acoustics of the hall were excellent because of a peaked ceiling. I still remember the Ovation guitar acoustic intro on "Crazy on You", then Led Zeppelin covers "Rock 'n Roll", Battle of Evermore", and an excellent version of Nilson's "Can't Live Without You". They finished with the Dreamboat Annie montage. A concert still remembered like it was yesterday. Apparently, there's a dvd release out there somewhere of one of their early concerts. I'd be interested in that. And I do have the rare Mushroom Records lp of 'Magazine' that was released without authorization of the band. All the mixes are different from the later release. Great to hear the Wilsons are still rocking. Slainte. Hamish
  12. Seeing you're in the 'land of awes', make sure you order upside down diaphragms. Just kidding. They and replacement tweeters and other parts show up on ebay too from time to time. Cheers from Canada, mate. Hamish

  14. fini, LOL - that was a brilliant post on cereal (Post Cereal -get it?)
  15. 2 '85 Black LaScalas 2 '78 Black Cornwalls 2 '90 Oak Heresy II's Home Theatre: 2 RF3's, 2 RS3's, RC3 centre channel, subs - DIY - see profile
  16. 30 years ago in college, my roomie and I ran double Advents using the HK 900+ quad receiver strapped for stereo. Kept blowing tweeters with 'Gentle Giant'. Anyway, all last winter, the Heresies were on top of the Cornwalls for a double setup with separate power amps to avoid any impedance concerns. First impression was a 'fuller' sound that's comparable to more violins rather than one big violin. Second impression that there was a lot less ringing from the horns at louder volumes because they didn't have to work as hard. And might be on a tangent here, but with more horns, you're hearing the direct source more than the room reflections. This really showed on female voices - Jennifer Warnes - Joan Osborne - with a lot more presence and immediacy. Double setups are definitely worth playing around with.
  17. I generally follow this rule. Dog in house = speaker grills on Cats in house = speaker grills off What's wrong with this picture. Hamish
  18. Finally, (gasp) after months of trying to talk someone into helping me move the LaScalas up into the attic, I found a volunteer. Paddy's son, JK, helped me(wrecked knee and all) and we got them up two flights of steep stairs and around several corners into the attic of our Victorian house. This is where I keep my computers and generally hide out from doing the dishes. Right now, I've got them hooked up to the Denon cd player, pre-amp and HK power amp instead of the Cornwalls. They're set up on the long knee wall with a trunk that shelves all the gear in between. This is directly behind where I'm sitting, so it's kind of like a large set of black headphones. I'll post a pix later. What's playing right now is the group MaUmba - cd -"Don't Hold Your Breath" - tracks - "The Selkie" and "Heaven Scent" - which are vocal tracks. For the unacquainted, MacUmba is very good piping with conga line drum section. There's is also a very good female vocalist. The best rocking pipe track is "Damp Carpet". No wonder I'm in the attic - sound is a little closer to heaven too. Hamish
  19. hey Picky, that's a great HT system and a great web site. I had a good tour around. Have you seen the dvd "The Beatles First Visit to the US". It has the Ed Sullivan performances from New York and Miami" Mildly speaking, the Beatles spun the cultural world on it's axis, and that was the beginning. Hamish
  20. Did somebody say Crowns? Check my profile and give me a PM. Hamish
  21. Here's a LaScala with one of 2 subs. A Crown D150A is driving both LaScalas and a DC300A is driving the sub. Each sub has two KEF B300 12" woofers in an internally braced cabinet. I'm using the other sub with my HT setup with the RF3's, RC3 and RS3's right now. I posted a pix of that yesterday. A couple of observations FWIW, the WAF factor in this setup is extremely low. As far as sound goes, the sub definitely adds more bottom end where it is needed. I think both Heresies and LaScalas benefit from a good sub setup. Slainte. Hamish
