  1. Glad to have you aboard, Rhadamanthus. Sounds like the Cornwalls are going to a home where they'll be enjoyed and appreciated. Cornwalls have many attributes of a great Klipsch speaker. Horn loaded mids and highs and a bass reflex bass that slams. What kind of music do you listen to? With my Cornwalls, I listen to a fair bit of '70's progressive rock like Yes, Genesis, King Crimson and etc. On the this forum, you'll find all kinds of tips, information and heartfelt opinions. And the realization that you're not the only one out there who likes room filling audio equipment. So feel free to chime in. Take care. Hamish
  2. OT -doncha know, Mikey, I always thought you looked like Freddy in the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers comics from the '60's. My favourite is still the one about his cat getting even with him by defecating in his headphones. As for the sub with the Heresys, I run a Crown DC300A crossed over at 120 hz into two KEF B300 12" drivers in a custom braced cabinet. I use the other matching sub for the sub for the RF3 HT setup with another Crown. Hamish
  3. ditto to dragonfyr - Yes' first two albums were fresh, innovative and exciting. "Harold Land", "Every Little Thing". "I've Seen All Good People" and "Yours is no Disgrace" still set the stage. However, when 90125 came out in the mid '80's (just when CDs were coming out), it was excellent. All these CDs still get a fair bit of play. The remaster of 90125 is outstanding. Here's a few more obscure groups in addition to dragonfyr's list. They include McDonald and Giles "Birdman" (which I highly recommend - story goes that many tracks were supposed to be the KC-ITCOTKC successor), Gracious, Barclay James Harvest (the poor man's Moody Blues), Klaatu - and oh yeah, Gentle Giant. Nothing like a screaming Mellotron at five feet. TWTD. Hamish
  4. and there's King Crimson with their debut "In the Court of the Crimson King". Interesting story that the the McDonald and Giles album "Birdman" is the followup album using more material that was supposed to be ITCOTKC.
  5. Congratulations drefrank, on a great choice of speakers and I hope you and your son enjoy them. ditto to dbflash. I've got both sets in the same room and switch back and forth depending on the music. In a nutshell, I prefer the Cornwalls for in your face rock and the LaScalas for more detailed music - ie McDonald and Giles 'Birdman' remaster. It's fun having a choice. Take care. Hamish

Mr. Thebes and the twins mosey on into the local establishment with an octopus. Mr. Thebes declares that his critter can play any instrument in the room and 50 backs up his outrageous claim. So the fiddler hands over the fiddle, the octopus picks it up and plays beautifully, 50 to the octopus. Same for the drums, the guitar and banjo... Then the piper declares he is sure to meet the bet and come out on top. So he hands over his pipes and the octopus turns them first one way then the other, and not a sound comes out of it. Mr. Thebes looks little nervous and asks the octopus whats wrong. "Play it? I'm still trying to get her out of these pajamas!!!!!!!!!

hey thebes, did you say pipes? Now we're talkin', laddie. Favourite vintage pipes are vintage silver and ivory Hendersons with real ebony - these were my Great Grandfather's. Favourite pick up and play pipes are a set of '82 David Naills with Naill chanter - African blackwood and synthetic ivory so there's no border hassles. Slante Mhath!!
  8. I used to listen to a lot of Supertramp. Their breakthrough album 'Crime of the Century' was new, refreshing and exciting. And they, like Pink Floyd, had an excellent reputation for live concerts. By the time, 'Live in Paris' (btw - the stadium photo with the red stripes is in Calgary) came out, I was tired of them. Everything seemed to sound the same and even now, I can't get excited over them. . Be well. Hamish

I always thought Paul Rodgers (originally with Free - 'All Right Now', Bad Company, solo, and now interestingly enough now with Queen instead of the unstoppable Freddy) has a great rock and roll voice. As well Steve Perry (who was with Journey then went solo) could sing up a storm. And I agree with Grog - Justin Hayward has an immediately identifiable voice, style and grace that I've enjoyed for years. For female vocalists, I really like Joan Osborne. Even though she was a one-hit wonder with 'What if God were One of Us', I find her CD 'Relish' contains an outstanding number of very well recorded tunes that reflect her different styles. Sadly, everything since is lacklustre. Be well. Hamish
  10. Hi Lynn, I've often imagined coming out to Calgary or thereabouts and hearing those Klipschorns that you dragged home from Pentiction.I still hope to make that trip and hear what all the fuss is about. Meantime, ditto to all the above comments and here's hoping and praying you can kick this thing in the butt and get on with the life you seem to enjoy so well. To you and your family - all the best. Hamish
  11. Glad to have you join us, Woodsman and Leon Liew, Sounds like you're both already aboard with some outstanding gear. Lots of tips, info and preferences here, so enjoy. Take care. Hamish
  12. Nice thread, Seti, I like all kinds of music and am a fan of the Celtic Rock genre, especially when bagpipes are added to the tracks. Some groups I enjoy are 'The Porridge Men', 'MacUmba ' (bagpipes with South American drumlines and an interesting lead female vocalist), and a down home Campbeltown, Scotland folkie pub band named 'The Wee Toon Tellers'. For 'full blown' pipe bands (excuse the pun), the 78th Frasers and Simon Fraser University Pipe Bands (both from Canada) have some excellent CDs out. And Victoria Police (Australia) do some great stuff. If one wants to 'wow' someone with a Klipsch speaker or two, there's a nice compilation CD called 'Piping Up' with various artists on it. Chris Armstrong (who teaches at the College of Piping in Glasgow) does a new agey pipe tune called 'Quantum Leap' with drums and bass that really exercises a good sound system. Slainte Mhath. Hamish
  13. Bruce, I'm really sorry to hear there wasn't a more positive prognosis. Here's wishing you, Barbara and your family all the best to get through these challenging times. You and Barbara take care. Hamish
  14. This is Monty expressing his love for Blose products. This is supposed to be my avatar but it doesn't animate in the avatar box.
  15. and weighing in at 263 kb - now to do a cartoon puppy raising his leg on a blose
  16. that's it, explorer seems to do it. these are home-made gifs btw. now what about the avatar?
  17. my little 2 frame 10 kb puppy won't animate - even left mozilla and went back to explorer, yet this thread looks like the old Millionaire Club back up by Pearson Airport
  18. Hoping and praying and all the best for you and your family. Take care. Hamish
  19. ditto to jasonbart. c'mon, crazytube power, it's not that bad - lighten up a little and hang in there - - on a lighter note, here's a few lyrics from an old '60's ditty that certainly deserved more attention ( so here's a little now - everybody join in on the chorus) A Sunday morning bright and clear Lovely flowers decorate the market square People cry and walk away and think about the fateful day Now they wish they'd given Jack more attention and respect Little children dressed in black don't know what happened to Grocer Jack grocer Jack, grocer Jack, is it true what mummy says you won't come back, oh no, oh no grocer Jack, grocer Jack, is it true what mummy says you won't come back, oh no, oh no,
  20. Great subject, Shade - and I agree with you. Any Scotch that is old enough to be out on it's own is nice. And Ardbeg 10 year old. That'll knock your socks off. I got to try a dram at a pub in Glasgow once at cask strength (most exported is watered down to 40% as compared to 53-57% coming out of the cask. And Nicholt - Springbank comes from Campbeltown of Mull of Kintyre fame. Springbank is the only distillery left there out of the many that used to be there. Slainte Mhath! (now let's see if this bb will take my post this time) Hamish
  21. Welcome back, Steeler Fan, I'm sorry to hear about your Mom and hope you and your family carry those good memories all the way. I lost my Mom in the late winter - hard to put thoughts into print - but you know - she's kind of still there. All the best to you and your family. Take care. Hamish
