  1. I have the 7700 Outlaw amp driving my RF7 line (see sig below). It ROCKS! I am also waiting on the 978, but I was under the impression it was going to be in the $800-900 range, with a discount to current/old 990 purchasers. And yes, it has been in development (publicy) for a minimum of 2 years, if not 3. This past summer, they commented they hoped to have it out by the end of this year, which is not looking good right now. The Outlaw amps are beasts. I have mine running with XLR cables.
  2. I tried the Oppo 95 with my setup (see below) and I coudnt tell much of a difference between the 95 and my 25 year old Denon DCD-1500 CD player. The Oppo was sent back. But it was avery nice machine.
  3. I agree, when I had my X-overs done on my RF7 and RC7 he was very timely. But it is the holidays!
  4. I have a 65 plasma and the Klipsch RF 7 speaker setup, including the RC7 centre speaker. Right now the speaker is on a TV mount attached to the wall above the TV. I want to bring it down below the TV but my TV stand is too small to let the speaker go inside of it. I want to build a platform speaker stand. I plan on using solid oak 1/2" thick as a bottom platform and the platform for the speaker to lay on top of. I will elevate the stand with some 2x4's (cedar or some other type of rigid bracing) to get the speaker up off the floor and so the top of the speaker is just below the bottom edge of the TV. In order to keep the top of the speaker just below the bottom edge of the TV, the top of the speaker will sit about 20" from the floor (the speaker is 9" high). In order to aim the speaker at the listening area, I need to tilt the stand a little bit. Sitting on the couch, my ears are 39" off the floor. If the middle of the speaker is sitting about 16" off the floor, about what angle should I have the top of the stand be angled at to hit my ears at 16 feet away? about 5-10 degrees? Any other suggestions would be appreciated!
  5. JBSL; Maybe you typed it wrong, but the PS3 DOES do 3D, however my TV does not support it. I use my PS3 mostly for movies (including Netflix), a little bit of gaming (Tiger Woods golf 12 and Uncharted 2), but it DOES NOT sound good playing CDs. I am returning the 95, and I will be ordering a new 93 instead. I want another Blu Ray player and a "newer" CD player as my Denon is old and my Jukebox is getting full
  6. Many others will disagree with me, but here is MY take; I just got one a couple weeks ago. I have it hooked up via HDMI and I tried to get the 8 analog RCA connnections to function along with my Onkyo 886. I had issues trying to get the pure RCA connections to function, but the I was able to get the left and right outputs to work. Going between my 25 year old Denon DCD-1500, a 8 year old Sony 400 mega CD changer (with SACD capability) and the Oppo 95, I thought the 95 did sound minutely better than either of the other two. And I stress the word minutely. If I were to use the Oppo as a benchmark score of 10, I would give my Denon a 9.8 and the Sony a 9.6. My opinion is that it was not worth $1000 to me, but that is my personal belief. Oppo has a great return policy and I will be sending it back. I already have a PS3 for Blu Ray, and in my younger years I enjoyed music more than TV. But now with HDTV I spend 95% of my free time watching TV and or DVDs. I just could not justify $1000. I will give kudos to Oppo for building a very nice piece of electronics, and great customer service trying to help me get the 8 RCA connections to function properly, and I still dont know why the Onkyo wont accept the 8 RCA connections (I was able to get multi- channel soundover HDMI) and it did sound very good. But again, it just was not worth $1000 to me. Good luck
  7. For music, I think my Kg4s from 1985 sound better than my RF7s with DeanG modded crossovers. My brother had Chorus IIs and sold em to someone else (damn him!) or I wouldve bought them, as they sounded a lot better than my Kg4s. For a home theatre environment (mivies), I think it will be a major step up. Let us know! I remember listening to Phil Collins and Genesis on those Chorus IIs, bright horns and pounding drums, man they sounded great!
  8. Was the S/N on the the back? Just kidding, enjoy!
  9. The 2311Ci is $849 at Crutchfield.com. The 1911 doesnt look too bad for the price. Do some comaprison "looking" at the two models, in person to see the video quality AND internet digging to see why people like and dislike each model. Check out www.avsforum.com and search their site for each model. It has a LOT of information and posts for you. Would you recognize the difference between 90 and 130 watts (over 2 channels)? maybe, and it depends on the efficiency of your speakers. But the 1911 may have a LOT les power when driving 3, 4 or 5 channels at the same time, and that would make it sound not very good (crappy).
  10. I bought the music DVD which plays both in stereo (very good) and in 5 ch DTS (WOW!) It is very good! But I have not seen any video on the disc.
  11. I have a pair of CDT-5800C mounted behind my couch in the ceiling and I am very happy with this setup. These provide the 6th and 7th channels in my 7.1 system. There is not a lot of info for the rear surrounds and they handle this minimal task well. Check my signature for the rest of my gear.
  12. I think I may have tightened the brackets to hard, thus twisting and/or compressing the frames a bit. #1 I tried to remove the speakers from the wall, and after unscrewing the screws, the speaker and bracket did not loosen. NMOT HAPPY! #2 I finally got the speakers out of the wall, but because I could not seperate the brackets after removing the screws, I now have ripped apart sheetrock from the the little brackets. Even after they were removed from the wall, the brackets were still very snug in the "caves", or sleeves that they are suppose to slide in and out of. WOW! #3 I REALLY wish I had just left he speakers installed in the wall, even though they were pained, and just painted over them. This should have been an easy "remove, paint, reinstall" project, but it was far from it! #4 I just installed a set of CDT-5800 C speakers and they were a breeze to install. The little clips meant to hold it in place are a much better design than the IW series. Maybe I am using the wrong screws to install into the wall. I am using regular sheetrock screws (coarse thread).
  13. I removed the speakers to paint my wall and now I am having a real tough time getting the grilles to go back into the frame. Any suggestions? The speakers are the IW200 or IW250s.
  14. I did soak them a little bit in soap and water, then scrubbed them while using a spray on paint rmover from the home depot. A little elbow grease and TADA, the paint was off. Then I bought some white Krylon spray paint meant for plastic. It dries in 15 minutes and I applied several very thin coats and it worked great! The speakers are now back on the wall and they look FAB!
  15. PM me your email address Dean, and I will send a photo. I will try to post one here, but I always have a very difficult time posting pix on this site. Im trying to post a photo but it only allows me to do a link (stupid me?). Anyway, its blue and it says "KSC" on the top, and below that it says "8.0K 100V". Looking at it closer, the pin from this possible transistor is broken where it connects to the board. That appears to be the problem.
  16. I have an older IW 50 with a short of some sort in the network board. With the speaker wires connected, the sound from the tweeter cuts in and out, mostly out. I connected the speaker wires directly to the tweeter and sound comes out just fine. There is a light baby blue transistor on the board that is loose; if I wiggle it a little the sound cuts in and out so I am guessing that this little part (or ts connection) is the problem. Klipsch.com does not have the network or a schematic available. Does anyone do this kind of repair? I PMd Dean G and I have not heard back (he rebuilt my RF7 crossovers).
  17. JAcksonbart, did you notice any improvement with your wall treatments being located behind your gear?
  18. I have a set of IW050s in my bathroom, mounted in the ceiling. I may not have paid much attention in the past, but I just noticed that one of the speakers in defintely missing the "highs". I took the speaker out, hooked it up to my living room system and listened closely to the tweeter. There is nothing coming out. Looking at the speakers back all of the wiring appears to be connected. Do I need to replace the horn assembly?
  19. I just called today and they still have none in stock. Bummer.
  20. I thought the same thing when I got the email last night. I think they announced the plans for the 997 about 18 months ago or so. I bet that after all the issues/hedaches with Sherwood, they thought they may want to start a new project (998) in case the Sherwood product failed. As time went on and more delays were obvious with the Sherwood, they stepped up the 998 project. Its too bad. All the delays made me sell my 990 and I bought an Onkyo Pro 886. HAd the 998 been available last year I may have stayed with the Outlaw. My 886 sounds much better than the 990. Hopefully the 998 is also better than the 990 for sound. I liked the 990, but the 886 has the Hi-Def audio formats.
  21. I get the lucky task of repainting the bedroom. I currently have a set of IW250s ( I think) and both the white frame and the grilles were painted when i painted the room the last time. I cant leave them with the color they are now cuz the paint colors do not match. In hindsight I wish I had not painted them and left them white. What have others done to get the paint of the frame of the speaker and the grille?
  22. How did yopu talk your wife into painting? It seems like I have to repaint something every other year or so!
  23. I have a universal remote. A Harmony 680 (in my sig). [H]
  24. That is what its all about!
  25. I have a Harmony 668 and really like it. Another nice thing about Harmony is if you are having issues with a certain item not turning on, or it is not going to the right input, etc...you can send them a report of your issue, and they go in and change the settings for you. All you do is hook it back up to the computer and update the remote and its good to go. I even had an issue with the battery cover constantly slipping off. The lip that keeps it attached to the remote had worn down. Harmony sent me 2 replacement covers, and they didnt work so they sent me a new (or maybe a refurned) unit for free! That is customer service. If I was to get another one, it would be the "one" or the "900".
