  1. No i wouldn't do that to him i am pretty honest. I told him i would buy it for him and i did. I got it for 200 dollars shipped to. It ways like thirty two pounds to. I got him a pretty good deal and i was happy to do so. I am listening to my onkyo now it isn't bad just don't have that sweet sound. Does denon have just a sweet sound and warm and full. Because i can get them cheaper than hk. I was thinking of getting the new hk 330 or the denon 1804. But to get a good deal on the denon their is know return. I know the hk throws a heck of a soundstage. I think the amp is equally as important as the speaker. Just my opinion
  2. I have an onkyo for my main receiver i heard the 601 and own the 501. I just bought my brother the hk 65 used. I hooked that up to my klipsch's and i was shocked at the quality of music that came out of that receiver. I am hk fan forever. Onkyo's sound like crappy entry level sony's compared to that older hk. I just can not beleive how smooth and it is. I just wish i bought it for my self. Damn i never heard my horns sound so smooth and detailed never fatiguing. I can't turn it off or give it to him and he want's it tonight. I have yet to hear a denon with my klipsch's. The sound has got to be about as good as gets for my taste. I'm scared to get a denon and then have to sell for the hk. I am defenitely getting a different receiver now i know what hk sounds like with my klipsch's. It sounds just as good as seperate audiosource i hooked up to my old sony. And that sounded great just different tastes. I got my money on hk from now on unless i hear a denon sound sweeter. I think i may have found the sound i have been searching for close enough. To bad they still don't make them. I watch pirates of the carribean it sounded great. One catch crossover is 100hz to the sub. I had a hole their with my sub at 80hz and it still sounded good. I have to set my sub and check it out before giving it up. I don't know if i can go without that sound now. Onkyo just seems lame now. I can't beleive i am even saying that. But hk is that good for my taste. I would love to hear denon though. Denon or nad just may change my mind.
  3. Wow that's pretty amazing for 24 dollars i guess they really do work. And know i dont work for sterophile i'm to stupid. No not really i just don't speak like them. I hope not. I read to many reviews and get brain washed sometimes. ---------------- On 1/9/2004 10:12:17 AM Mikekid wrote: I purchased four Vibrapods in hopes that they would stop an occasional skip from my DVD player. The player is right next to the Hsu sub and the Vibrapods did work for that. Other than that though...?????? Take care Mike ----------------
  4. I couldn't tell you if it helped, but it does seem like a more stable sound. Now i will never be able to tell you because i got my new onkyo dvd player hooked up and it is killer.
  5. Bigger is sometimes the worst thing you can do with speakers if you like quality sound. Your speakers need to breathe. I had huge jbl towers in my room with two tens in each the northridge series and they sounded very bad compared to bookshelfs. They would play louder but the midrage was so muddled. Then i came across klipsch sf-2 badda bing badda boom i had the right size for my room. I would love to ugrade to the reference but their to big for my room except the rf-15 towers which i am in know way giving up the sf-2 for them. I like the bass i get from the sf-2 too. My floor isn't that even or i would go with the rf-25. But i still may they do have adjustable spikes i think. I wish i had your problems. I bet the rf-5 are awesome
  6. I just got a set of vibropods and it seems like it improved my soundstage. It seems to me it got wider. It is sussposed to give you better picture to. I have been testing it with my old dvd player and it seemed to have a better soundstage. I just got a new dvd onkyo sp501 and a new tributary s video cable so it will be hard to tell on that because it will be better anyways. Just wondering if anyone used them and got good results. I seem to have got a little improvement. I guess for 24 dollars what the heck right. Audio advisor told me the main reason it to help stop mechanical vibrations so things run smoother. I read awesome reviews of it but it isn't a miracle worker it can't make your amp any better. Next step will be to get a new power cord for my dvd player. And i wonder if anyone has done that and got good results. Just curious. Thanks
  7. arthurs how are those signal shotgun biwires. I was thinking about getting signal cables. I have monster original. I just bought the signal digital cable and i am still breaking it in and i am getting a fuller sound and better bass with less crippling tinny highs.
  8. The sf-2 smokes arse. I just compared them to my brothers athena's and my God was it a joke. The klipsch pounce the athenas around like a little rag doll. The athenas had no depth the soundstage was a complete blurr compared to the klipsch's and their was no attack from the string plucks. At times it seemed like i was going to blow a tweeter in the athenas. The klipsch's have a tighter deeper bass. While the athena was fuller and blurry with no detail in bass guitar licks. Off axis the athena might be a little better but in the sweet spot the klipsch out soundstage the athenas by a mile with crystal clarity. These speakers are both broken in to the max. Believe me you can't go wrong with sf-2. You have to figure your space because i would like to step up to the 8 inchers but their isn't enough room for the port to properly work. So I have to use a certain size. Bigger is not even being close to being better unless you have a bigger room. I had a pair of jbl n series with two 10 inchers in each tower and they sounded like crap compared to a little pair of 6 inch infinity towers. You got to let the speakers breath alittle. The athenas were actually the af-1 towers. Sound and vision tested the sf-2 to play down to 25 herz at 70 some decibels not to bad. Some times i like not to use my sub at all for stereo listening. Acutually i watch t3 without the sub and it shook my couch. I have a mirage ms 12 sub and it is pretty good. The bottom line is if you get to big of a speaker for your room it will sound boxy, muddy, blurry, poor imaging, boomy.
  9. It's ironic isn't it how septic turned it into an off topic subject. But were all friends here right? I wish the best for your sister batibot. No offence sceptic just a little humor (NO BIG DEAL!!)
  10. I have the 501 and the sf-2 speakers. And the receiver is razor sharp clear at all volumes. It get's pretty loud my brother has the onkyo 500 it seems to be a bit smoother sounding but with less power. Even though they are rated the same. I think it is because their is an extra channel that i don't use and it is rated at both channels driven. So more power goes to the other channels. Plus i was on the onkyo web site and they said they increased the size of the power supply and added a hum plate and other things to make for a quieter amp. Alot of people knock certain brands but truthfully they really don't know how an amp sounds if they only listened to it for a month. It takes several hundred hours to break in any component. So to answer your question it would work fine. I had my reciever for over two months easily and it still is being broken in. A good tip leave it on for a month. If you turn of solid state equipment it takes two hours to charge your amp to get it up and running smoothly. Check out oddyssey amplifier web site and they have a tweek and tip section on burning in your amp.
  11. I figured i would try my brothers athena af-1 floorstanders which are good speakers especially for the money. I have been listening to them for a week, and i am going insane thinking about my klipsch's. I just can't hear bass runs and stringed instrument's like on the klipsch's. I really don't mind jazz on the klipsch's but through other speakers i cant even listen to it. That tells you alot about a good speaker. It will let you experience it how it was meant to be. I am afraid of blowing his speakers up with the new metallica dvd. It just doesn't have the snap and depth. I thought i was missing a little soundstage with the klipsch's. Forget about it i'll take the depth and clarity and smack of klipsch over any speaker ever made. Klipsch's are very revealing and so are other speakers they just mask the sound with crappy muddy midrange. Now i have a chance to upgrade if it is. A buddy of mine is willing to buy my sf-2 and i would buy the rf-25. I am scared this is not an upgrade because it seems as if these sf-2 were built similiar to the old rf series in quality. I know if i do i will be jonezing untill i get them. I can't go any bigger because it would actually degrade the sound. You need proper balance in a room to achieve the best sound. You defenitely don't want to over power your room. So It's keep the already know is awesome sf-2 or get the rf-25. Then theirs the klipsch bookshelf route which i am not to familiar with. The bookshelf sometimes sounds better in my room midrange quality. I have yet to hear klipsch bookshelfs or stand mounts. I just can't wait to get my klipsch's hooked back up. I am not done testing the athenas yet but all i can think about is the klipsch's. Over and out!
  12. Same to you I hope all goes well for everyone.

    T3

T2 rules but T3 kicked arse. Of course T2 rules we have so many memories of it. T3 is a great movie for what it is. I did think it went by quick i wanted more.
  14. That was a good movie i didn't know how filthy it was back then. Bill the Butcher was cool in it. I guess he was a real character. Some of the movie had some truth to it. The discovery channel thing was just about as interesting as the movie. Excellent
  15. I would go with the ported one if you have ported front speakers. I have the matched sf-2 mains with the center that goes with it and i can hear a difference in it because the center isn't ported. The tweeter may be matched but the majority of sound is midrange in my opionion and that isn't seemless to me. It seems clear definetly, but thinner of a sound because of the center being sealed. It's not a perfect match plain and simple they should of ported my center. It still rocks though
  16. Sony has good stuff in their higher end like you mentioned. I used to own a db840 and with the right cables it had a huge sound alot fuller than my new onkyo. But the trade of was a cleaner highs which some might call a bright receiver, but its just a cleaner one. The sony had a little tiz in the highs when cranked. I added an audio source two amp to it to check out that two channel sound. And let me tell you i wish i never would of sent that back after four hours or more of burn in time. I heard music like it was right their. Tube amps sounded like tube amps when they were playing them on stage. And horns on jazz sounded just plain awesome compared to a receiver. That is what is nice about sony they give you preouts for that. Basically i didn't need a sub with my old sony but i do now. You can get that audio source amp two for like 250 dollars. That's a frinking bargin.
  17. I agree on the distance thing. The farther away you are the better. I swear sometimes when i am in another room that is further away , but you can see and hear the speaker it sounds way better. I wish i had a larger room to listen to them with, and a good seperate amp. On the dvd ledzeppelin it is unbelievable the soundstage that is going on with lead guitar and everything else. I guess alot has to do with the recording. Sometimes when i am in the shower it still sounds good like the walls are tweed amp cabinet covers sweetening the sound a bit. They are so dynamic. ---------------- On 12/12/2003 11:03:31 AM mark1101 wrote: Max, Some people might get a little upset with this comment, but I have used Klipsch Heritage speakers for over 20 years. Their weakest characteristic has always been their imaging. You can get them to image, but they are like tuning a race car. You need to adjust, adjust adjust. Anything you change, adjust again. When I say adjust, I mean move them, sometimes just 6 inches to a foot. Especially with old cornwalls. The biggest issue with this in my opinion is that the horns project the sound to the point that most rooms are simply too small to get the best possible effect. If someone asked me what is the optimal distance to listen to LaScalas (loaded question). I would say the best LaScalas ever sounded to me was from almost 100 yards away outdoors at a party I attended. When it got dark out (important) The horns project and need distance to develop their full envelope. I know everyone here describes their little 12 foot room and how perfect the image is. But IMHO, a speaker like a Khorn or LaScala is very restricted in a room that size. Not saying that they can't sound good, just that they are not able to develop their full potetial. So the best you can do is try to adjust for best image. And everyone will tell you somehting different because that's what it takes, adjusting. Everyone will have different results. I do not get the deep sound stage you describe from any of my klipsch systems. I get an excellent side to side stage where the speakers can disappear if set up correctly. My SONY "HT in a box" ($399.00 for reciever and speakers) gives the "deep" sound stage you describe. The speakers absolutely envelop the room. You can not tell where any of them are. Cheap but good! You take your Klipsch outdoors, and when it gets dark, to me that's the best they will ever sound. You'll get your long and deep stage and them some. ----------------
  18. I know i have junky gear compared to you guys, but i get awesome depth front to back soundstage. However i found my klipsch to have a really bad width in soundstage. When your off the sweet spot. I have my speaker on the long wall 22' and toed in alot. I sit 9' from my screen and stereo equipment and my speakers are about 10' to 11' apart. I almost got rid of them because that width is important to me. And for awhile i was used to back row speakers not front row on stage speaker sound. But the depth and snap of a string being plucked is completely real especially on stringed intruments their is nothing touching them. Except for better horns. But back to the soundstage if i don't toe them in i get this huge hole in the middle sort of like mono sound. I love klipsch but i dont know if i like their soundstage. Everything else is great. It's pretty good if your directly in the middle of the speakers. Actually it's great then. The center channel is very narrow i meen narrow, but that is another section of the forum. Anyhow i get amazing depth just poor width
  19. I would experiment if you went with the bookshelfs. I was thinking about going with the same model myself. If i had that situation i would stick the horns on the outside instead of the inside. That way it will give you a larger soundstage. I have a pair of speakers on my deck like that and everyone loves them. That's the only way i could of mounted them under the eaves to protect them from rain. If you were going with the satellites i go for the cool looking new ones with the copper woofers. I had a pair of the quintets. They sounded pretty good but i liked the way my cambridge hid the wire better and had a larger sense of space for surround. The horn i think is a square so i don't know if turning it would matter. The tone will change when turning them on their sides. IF you have your center the same it should work pretty good i would think. Hope this helps and in my opinion bookshelfs are better than satellites much better. And welcome to the forum.
  20. klipsch read this. Crutchfield rules their is know better custumer support they pay for return shipping even. If something is broke you don't wait to get it repaired they send you a new one. If you sold through crutchfield. Then crutchfield would be the bomb. I never have a bad feeling about crutchfield. I have had probally ten different subs i tried from them and sent back i blew some of them up but it was no problem. They said it wasn't my fault and gave me a refund. I talked to a tech their which i do all the time and learned most of my knowledge through crutchfield and their staff, and i said i had klipsh's and he was like i don't understand why we don't sell them. If i can find and open box item from them discounted then it's a no brainer. Buying from them is like warm apple pie.
  21. I am not sure of that one. But a long time a go me and my friends would veg to tangerine dream. I really can't tell you what they sounded like. I don't remember sort of like the rain forest and storms at times mayby. Anyhow one time my friend comes over and he says i got this cd i want you to check out but don't laugh. So i was like ok let me see it i'll play it. I'm pretty opened minded to music and sounds. He had this cd of all Danny Elfman soundtracks like edward sissor hands, pee wees big adventure, beatlejuice, and so on. And through the surround system i had then it was pretty cool. This was before i had a computer and i said let me have that cd. He ended up giving it to me so that was cool of him. You should burn some and see how it sounds through your system. It's not for everyone. I do remember tangerine dream being a good ambient sound.

  23. Check out audiogon.com for their classifieds and sign up if you aren't already. Awesome place to get killer high end gear at cheap prices. Sign up and have a little patients one will pop i guarantee it. I got a mirage 12 inch sub 400 watt peak high current amp for two hundred dollars shipped. You can save alot of money. What would two hundred dollars buy you new a fifty watt 8 inch polk mayby?
  24. At that price point that would be outlaw audio but they disconinued the av receiver. So you could pick it up used at a better price. Or go with a refurbished nad definetely wouldn't be dissapointed their. I went through the same thing and ended up with the onkyo 501 cannot be beat for under 500 dollars. Iv'e looked for about two years. Onkyo 65 watts will out perform denon 80 watts. when it comes to clearity and output. That is to say with their entry level models. But if you have five hundred bones try to pick up a nad receiver refurbished their twenty five watt amp would probally out perform any of the mentioned receivers. That will be my next upgrade. Basically its the onkyo entry , outlaw audio and nad refurbished mid level, arcam diva 100 best. Happy hunting and these are just my opionions from the millions of reviews iv'e read and some personal listening. Also denon is very good but for how little one could have and onkyo it's just amazing.
  25. dynaudio and oddysey are night and day the dynaudio or front row center and very revealing and the oddysey are a back hall speaker with a relaxed sound with a huge spacious soundstage something that is difficult for a front row center sounding speaker. http://www.tnt-audio.com/casse/epiphony_e.html
