  1. Anyone ever get "Oh you got those old school speakers" Usually about 30 seconds into the film..."damn!" Don't get me started on center channel dialog either
  2. I got mine by a freak of events. I had bought this setup: Rotel RB980 (125watt x 2 amp) Rotel RSP960 (Dolby Prologic decoder/preamp/amp) Rotel RT940 (AM/FM tuner) Marantz CC65SE (5disc changer built like a tank) Def Tech BP20s Def Tech BP10s Def Tech CLR1000went through a divorce and had to sell...my dealer heard about it and let me know about a little setup I may be interested in...it was: Yamaha RX-V1050, Quartets, Academy and a pair of PSB 300's for surround...About $850 in 1997 I have since sold and repurchased the Academy and changed the PSB's to RS-25's. My source is now a Yamaha HTR-5960.
  3. I have had both an RX-V1050 and now a HTR-5960...the sound is a good match IMHO. If you do shop yamaha, HTR is the better value 9 times out of 10. There are a few online retailers that are authorized (at least when I bought mine) and don't show the real lowest prices. Make sure you email/call and ask the best they can do if you go the online route.
  4. Klipsch sound moves at the speed of light. use the highest gauge that is practical always. I have played with 'correcting' electronics but to my ear less than a 20' difference the electronics made it sound worse.
  5. I couldn't find how many amps your unit draws.... for reference: 16 Gauge Cords Any 16 gauge cord between 0 and 100 feet long will adequately handle tool loads up to 10 amps. 14 Gauge Cords Any 14 gauge cord between 0 and 50 feet long will adequately handle loads between 10 and 15 amps. 12 Gauge Cords If your tool load is between 10 and 15 amps and the length of the cord is 50 to 100 feet, you need a 12 gauge cord to safely power any tool. IMHO always go bigger/lower gauge.
  6. I would get to a really good sports medicine MD or really in this case a DO especially if you have any that work with atheletes in your area. In my teens and to mid 20's I was really active in martial arts and contact sports. Regular doctors just never really helped me...I got hooked up with an awesome DO and I got relief....
  7. Snapper and Toro are popular in my circle, can't say any have complaints. Colter...you should be able to mount some Klipsch on that behemoth. Get to it. I have about 8000 sq ft to cut, minus my modest home, workshop and whatever concrete is out there in driveway or sidewalk form. I use my Scott's Reel Mower I can jam out tunes in my workshop and get a bit of exercise.
  8. I am not sure if the grille is available but it should be an easy fabrication if you are handy and/or for any shop. The Academy is just veneered MDF. You should post a picture so we can really recommend your best option.
  9. I recently got into vintage solid state...bring back the analog tuner and meter/gauges. Make it a dual tuner target stations with a button and fine tune with the dial.
  10. call up K. Hovnanian at 800-232-0351 and ask for Patricia Pauley (my name is Chris Feeny if you want to know)...she is our Account Manager for much of Texas and would know if we are selling any inventory there. I wish I waited a year to buy, we have some beautiful homes right now in S. Florida for a steal.
  11. nice space too....looks perfect for cracking open a beer and doing anything from a movie, to rocking out with music to rocking out playing music.
  12. The built in T-antenna is just not cutting it...I don't have a dipole to try...but I see cheap options like that Terk FM+ for a few bucks. I have room in my workshop along the middle of the roof line for something...I don't really want to mount an outdoor antenna though because of our wind storms. I just need FM reception.
  13. Personally I'd keep which sounded best to me. Should be pretty easy to A/B them with you favorite material. The old 'heavier' is better doesn't work in today's world most of the time.
  14. I think the main problem is ultimately digital *SHOULD* be the best, however; in our day and age of people wanting things cheap and disposable as well as favoring a hot mix rather than accurate one it's hard to find good recordings...esp of vinyl re-presses as it's such a niche market they'd rather cut corners than deliver the best product. Many people only collect the best vinyl, it's easy to forget how many garbage records were out there. Another thing too is most of those that were pre-CD born have much reduced high frequency range in their hearing...even if they took really good care not to expose themselves to high dB. It really evens the playing field..
  15. which post is this? My wife is japanese and I am curious (it's Kanji BTW)
  16. Simple but sounds great. Room is ~15x21 Quartets, Academy, RS-25's Yamaha HTR-5960, Yamaha CCD-665, Yamakawa DVD288K./VGA, Toshiba M782, Toshiba CX32G60
  17. I am going to hold out for a Harmon/Kardon x30C. I *really* like the looks of those and think I will regret not getting one. I really appreciate this offer though.
  18. if you can test it that would be great...what's the weight around on that? My zip would be 33426, a commercial address.
  19. Let me know some details on it...I am interested, I am looking at some Harmon Kardon x30's in this same price range . Also if you are up for it I can have you ship on my UPS account, we get a decent discount as a mass shipper.. my email is alkemyst [at] 30moons.com
  20. You are doing it wrong....your speakers are supposed to move you.
  21. I don't see many of the sub $50 recievers here and the local pawn shops just aren't stocking them anymore. I have a pair of speakers I want to power in my workshop. A 2 channel receiver is fine, I don't need a whole lot of power. I see many on eBay in the $20-50 range (shipped) and they seem to have decent power, can handle a CD player if I wanted to add one and most have analog tuners which IMHO is a bonus. I'd like something compact if possible. Thanks for any advice or offers.
  22. I don't think it's really a matter of forbid, but a matter that another person is sharing the living quarters and should at least have some say in reaching a compromise. Another part is being realistic. I could have shoved another pair of Quartets or moved my currents to the rear and upgraded. However, our french doors would not be able to close and we'd have to rearrange a pretty significant area. I went with RS-25's My first house had an ideal listening room...
