  1. I think all movies are produced in all three sound formats. (Dolby Digital ,DTS, and Sony Dynamic Digital Sound) It's up to the individual theaters as to which one they use. Why then are digital sound choices not on the DVD's? Some due to space limitations on the DVD and some due to the format not available for encoding on DVD's (i.e. SDDS) and finally who knows why DTS is not available on all DVD's.
  2. I make it a point not to buy from a company that cannot spell correctly
  3. Make sure you have the gain set in your receiver. There will be two setting 1. Sub on or sub+mains. 2. There should be a volume setting for the sub (-10 to +10) or something like that on your receiver. Make sure it is not set to -10. As other have said you really need a SPL meter and a good calibration disk that produce low frequency signals.
  4. I got S & V for a year when I purchased my receiver. Looked through every issue. Bottom line..I did not renew. Was not impressed with their content and reviews. I would look elsewere. Go to your local Barns and Noble and see which one suites your fancy.
  5. In no particular order Animal House Meet the Parents Something about Mary Dumb and Dumber Caddy Shack I will have to think a little more on the next 5
  6. Do they (RS) still make the analog version. Last time I looked they were only stocking the digital version.
  7. Just curious, what type of 5.1 audio do you really get in a sporting event?
  8. I would keep my eye out on ebay. You will probable have to by a pair unless you get lucky and someone is in the same boat. Now that I think about it, post you single one on ebay and if someone wants it, call them and see if you can buy theirs.
  9. I agree with Nick except in my opinion exact timbre for rear surround speakers is not necessary. The front three deffinitley need to match as best you can.
  10. Does cable have NFL Sunday Ticket or College Gameday?

What sounds good to me may sound terrible to you and vise versa. Although Im not familiar with that specific Onkyo model..getting a newer receiver (Denon) for the same dollars wil deffinitely get him more feature.

It's the quality of parts they use inside.

  14. To me it would be an upgrade. Denon's are always a step above Onkyo (and most receiver)in their sound, features and power. Is it worth the extra since you already have the Onkyo? It's your call.
  15. I have never been one on one brand over another. But that being said, I have never been a fan of Sony, JVC, Kenwood. Other then that I would look at all in the price range and try them out with your type speakers in the store. Then make sure they have a good return policy and take the one you like home and try it out. If it doesn't sound as good as you like take it back and try your second choice, etc, etc. For what you have described, I would think at least a $700 (USD) receiver is what you need. How much do you have to spend?
  16. I do know their LCD High Definition TV's are the highest rated by Consumer Reports.
  17. ---------------- On 1/27/2005 4:59:17 PM vgtvidz wrote: Hey, well isnt the HK onlny 55 or 65watts per channel? ---------------- Yes but HK recievers are rated very conservative. I would trust a 65 watt HK then a 100 watt Pioneer on a Bench Test.
  18. Yes Sunfire recommends Mink Oil. There surrounds and center are a very thick and hark rubber material. A lot different the material Klipsch uses. If Sunfire recommends this proceedure I would hesitate to do it. ( Oh by the way I have had my Sunfire for two years and have not treated it ) On second thought..I take it all back.
  19. Well I'm not exactley sure but 100 watts at 6 ohms is equal to less 80 watts at 8 ohms. Get a more powerfull receiver. I have always like Yamaha, but if you want to go with another brand that's your choice. My advice..spend more on your receiver if your wanting more out of it. (Please don't take any offence) but but it sounds like you bought a lower end model receiver but is expecting it to perform like a $1,000(USD)model.
  20. Some one correct me if I'm wrong, but LG used to be called Goldstar. I think they are from Korea and are a very large company. In terms of qualtiy of their products I cannot say since I don't own any products.

    hd-dvd?

So I will file them away with my Monster Cable and THX certifications.
  22. That was my first reaction when I read the post heading. I don't think they made a subwoofer.

    hd-dvd?

Then what does it mean when the DVD on back says "mastered in high definition". Can those disks be played in a hd-dvd player and display 720p/1080i on a HD-TV?
  24. One year and 380 posts...not bad. However, you and I will never reach the Moon's rate of posts.
