Tuning a vented enclosure is simply a function of venting frequency you want, the enclosure's internal volume, the port area, and the port length. If the port area and venting frequency remain constant, raising the internal volume would shorten the port length (and vice versa). The port area is usually defined by the size of the woofer and to a lesser extent by the driver's Xmax. On 8/9/2004 8:48:35 PM IB Slammin wrote: I'm no EE. Funny you mention that...I am. ---------------- I am humbled by your degree. Seriously. I simply want to incorporate two Cornwalls per channel into a manageable (short) cabinet, utilizing a larger mid horn. Your expertise would be much appreciated. tc

  9. $100.00 ? Are the twins still in the pix? Save your money and invest in the "blue tint". More bang for the buck. I am still LMAO. Just can't forget "the sound of the heels". More cost-effective at our age. Terry
  10. STL, ......using one set of horns would be........ I am not considering more than one set of horns per box. I feel that the 511b/902s could do it. (Tom would know) .....re-tune the port by making it longer...... Perhaps shape the cab to extend back into the corner reducing the height and width required for the enclosure? Mids would fit in the box, no top hat needed. Maybe a two-way with the Altecs. I wish I could pull up the old "VOT inspired Cornwall" thread!!!! Regards, Terry

If you wanted to build a bigger one, say with 2 K-33s in it, could it be as simple as times two? Theoretically yes -- but using two K-33s and not doubling the number of squawkers and tweeters is only going to get you grossly exaggerated bass. Also keep in mind doubling the woofers would require a change to the filter network (aka - the crossover). ---------------- DTL this links with the "stacked Klipsch thread". FRZ and I stack Cornwalls horn to horn. Incredible "boot in the chest" sound. IMHO, the Slam factor that FRZ and I love with four or more CWs is something that two Cornerhorns simply can't keep up with. (OK, Ive done it again). Two CWs stacked horn to horn is...well, a little tall. I believe that the ports should be coupled to the floor(no riser). To do this and keep the mids and tweets aligned would require a separate bass bin with the two K-33s side by side and horns centered above. I now run Altec 511/902s, K-77s atop the CW bins and believe that less-attenuated 511s or other multi cell horns, could keep up with a double CW bass bin. Just a thought.... I'm no EE. Regards, Terry

The original specification was 45Hz as Craig indicated. I had a pair of La Scala's in the rear and can assure that they can reproduce 50Hz with some serious authority. I am reasonablly certain they can go below that to some degree as well. That being said when I switched my mains from Belle's to Khorn's the difference was immediately obvious, the Khorn's had better bass response without a doubt. I parted with the La Scala's in the rear in favor of some rare, rare '62 Cornwalls I debated with myself whether this was a good choice or not but find that the bass response of the Cornwall blends much more seamlessly with the Khorn than the La Scala did despite the fact that it is not horn loaded. Just my 2 cents. ---------------- Thank you, thank you very much...At last someone to agree... and it's about voicing!!! Its not about the K-400 in the LaS or the the cut-down Bell. The CW was meant (PWK) to support his cornerhorn. Again and again, IMO the Cornwall sounds more like the Klipschhorn than any other speaker. Terry
  14. I rented a Mustang a while back and it had Sirus. That is the only time that I have heard it. In that car the Sirus sounded better than the CD player. Was that a flook? How do you guys feel about the quality? Terry

These were '83 (I think...they're "Y"s). Didn't like the sound.....too harsh. Had the 'cheaper' components. I had a spare pair of the original "B-type" crossovers. That helped a bit. However, when I replaced the midrange setup (not even K55V's or even M's) with a University SAHF/Cobreflex setup (see attached pic), the sound became clearer and warmer. Bass was helped tremendously by replacing the stock woofers (they wern't even K33's but something with square magnets) with Stephens Trusonic 103LX's (massive brutes). Finally, the tweeters (which were those square magnet 'cheapos') I replaced with University 4401's. Hooked up to my old Dynaco ST70 and Dynaco PAS2, these speakers now will almost bring tears to your eyes. This is now my tube amp 2-channel listening pair. As a sidenote, I traded the stock 'guts' which I would not wish upon anybody, to a guy down the street for a bone stock 1953 Khorn. ---------------- Come on ed, at least dust that stuff off a little before posting the pix. Were you running a belt sander down there? Terry Ps: I think I can see a cigarette butt on the floor in my photo.

Thanks for input ---------------- There was a post in the old "odds & mods" called VOT Inspired Cornwalls. The boxes were shaped to fit into a corner (same cf as the CW (?) to accommodate an extended length mid range horn such as the Altec 511b or its EV, JBL counterpart. Again, IMHO best bang for the buck...... 1) Upgrade the X-over with newer or better components 2) Brace the box 3) Dampen the K-600 4) Replace the K-600/K-55

I think part of the explanation is found in three factors. 1) The Class A amps are less powerful; 2) The Class A amps usually employ less feedback and thus have narrower bandwidth; 3) The Class A amps are usually triode and the AB amps are pentode. In the extreme, if I combine all these elements (as I have) into an amp such as an EL34 Triode Class A tube amp with 12Watts, and I compare that to a tuned up 6550 AB amp like a Mark III, the comparison is very much as Dean suggests. The Class A amp is like getting hit with a big silk boxing glove and the AB amp is like getting hit with a roll of nickels. mdeneen ---------------- Would that be like the difference between a Klipschhorn and a Cornwall????? 19. What was the question? Great job Gil!! I "almost" understood. I do have a grip on it now. I will print a copy also. Terry
