  1. Other vendors aren’t supported here. Why not use Klipsch OEM parts and services. Buy a kit, and I’ll install it if you can’t or don’t want to. The coils on your networks are fine. Paying to replace perfectly good parts doesn’t net you anything. “Silver” and “gold” are the wrong type capacitors for the circuit. They will just make your speaker sound brighter and thinner.
  2. https://critesspeakers.com/products/kg2-crossover-rebuild-kit-free-us-shipping PK in for third place! Nonsense claims. Each step “up” just makes the sound brighter and thinner. They don’t even make an attempt at rebalancing the networks to account for the difference. One day they are “factory spec”, then they aren’t. When I asked about this (which they still allude to in their eBay ads), the response was … When it became widely explained by others that our parts were actually better than the ones used originally, that seemed like a good time to stop saying ours were as poorly built as factory spec, so I changed that language. Of course, “others” is me, and that first part is a convoluted and incomplete version of what I said. I will say it’s nice that they are finally offering something almost as bad as factory spec. However, since we have the actual OEM parts, we still get to lay claim to worst spec and sound possible.
  3. The .35mH in series with the K-55 is a modification. Anyway … https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/22418-k-77-vrs-k77m-qs/&_fromLogin=1

  5. Where did you read that? It has a plane wave tube response down to 110Hz. The tube provides a resistive load. As long as you don't drop the driver or bang it into something, the magnetic charge will be fine. I would change both diaphragms, and since you've done this before, you probably know to clean out the magnetic gap.
  6. The only in-network plot I have of the K-77-M with an AA is a Klipsch anechoic plot that I can't really post. Those peaks aren't there. There are some out of network plots that are easy to find with google - Al did most of them. No peaks. It's also odd that you would be "driven out of the room", and your initial impression that it "sounded terrible".
  7. Probably offensive to ask you this @mboxler, but I'm sure you remembered you have a split network and that your low pass elements are connected to the woofer.
  8. @John Warrenhas modeled that thing to death. https://www.northreadingeng.com/Klipschorn_model/basshorn_model.htm
  9. It's written in invisible ink. Nothing there friend.
  10. I couldn't find the document. However, I did find this in the timeline for the Klipschorn and La Scala. Nov 20, 1987 The Aluminum K-400 horn was replaced with the K-401 structural foam horn resulting in slightly improved distortion figures.
  11. Yes. Check out the AK vs. the AK-3 When I figured this one out I started pushing AK-2 users backwards instead of forwards. They only have to change two parts and never have to open the door to the woofer chamber. Those big film caps are fine, and you run into more trouble and hassle by breaking the airtight seal.
  12. People do change their mind about things, and I’m sure PK was no exception. There is no growth without adjusting your position as you are presented with new information. I have a hardcopy around here somewhere from Klipsch Engineering on the K-401. If I can find it I will screenshot it.
  13. You’re not allowed to measure stuff anymore, lol. I was talking to JEM the other day, who mentioned that the AA was designed to work with the Alnico K- 77, and doesn’t sound particularly good with the EV 77-M. It was an interesting discussion. With that said, I don’t think I have ever seen a plot like that before.
  14. If you are going to sell them, I would fire them up and listen to them. If they sound “okay”, just leave them alone. Most think those old cans are paper in oil (they’re not), and you might be better off selling them as they are. Updating them may actually hurt your resale value. Don’t ask, we know it doesn’t make sense.
  15. Yeah, replace them now and you don’t have to think about anymore. Henry is right, they are probably not “bad”, but they are certainly on their way out. Jim did a nice a job on that page. We speak often and we are very much aligned.
  16. Eminence makes drivers for a lot of companies. Like I said, what it looks like has no bearing on compatibility with your cabinet. BTW, RoHS is not a company, it’s a compliance standard.
  17. I’m guessing this was one of those deals where you jumped out of your skin and made a dive for the volume control? If so, you may have lost a woofer or two.
  18. They may not look the same, but what matters are the specifications (t/s parameters).
  19. If loosening and tightening the screws, which is really just done to ensure a good connection - didn’t bring the highs back - then you should probably just go ahead and replace the capacitors.
  20. I misread something earlier that just made me want to bow out. I thought he said he got a reading from his RF-7 high pass with the straps removed, which really confused me. I don’t like internet troubleshooting, especially when there’s no problem!
