  1. I haven't decided anything for sure yet. Still mulling things over. Funds are limited and so are the options. I did think the pic exemplifed the utilitarian look though.
  2. I like utilitarian. I like steel. It's electronics -- not a piece of furniture. Put the money in the freaking circuit.
  3. They're sitting over at Pat's house. Hee, hee -- sorry, I couldn't help myself. So Colin, what's "wrong" with push-pull? Seriously though -- what about them is inherently "wrong"?

Paul, are you out there? I no longer have your email address and don't know your moniker. I need to tell you what's going on with your subs. It has been a nightmare. Everything from getting the Canadian Postal Money Order Cashed to getting myself setup with a Fedex Ground Account for pickup related to international shipping. I've been sitting here for 8 days waiting for Fedex to pick up the sub and amp. Eventually, they will get to you.
  5. O.K. You got $1K to buy an amp. What would you buy and why?
  6. Something often overlooked is the DCR. This is the resistance spec of the inductor. It is actually as important as the inductance value in the circuit. Changing out the inductors will change the overall resistance of the circuit. This isn't necessarily a good thing. I say if you can't find an EXACT match of inductance AND DCR for the squawker and/or tweeter -- leave well enough alone. You can change the inductor for the woofer, and if the new inductor has a lower DCR than the original -- you can expect a 2b increase in woofer output. http://www.madisound.com
  7. Interesting. So, what constitutes a DFW area? And of course, you must come back and report to us what have been done to those Cornwalls!
  8. "I've been waiting 5 weeks to get the final few things with my web page done and I'm sure it has something to do with my short fuse with Kelly." Ya think? I am somewhat surprised at some of the responses regarding Kelly. Clipped -- Kelly merely opined that you would find triamping with external crossovers disappointing. Like it or not -- this is his opinion. You should simply counter with the reasons you made this choice, and why you think it's best for you. This is basically the purpose of any forum: An exchange of ideas and thoughts, with a high liklihood there will be a "point, counter-point" discussion of the thoughts. What has happened that should not be expected? We ALL know what Kelly prefers -- so what is the point in getting upset if he voices some negativity towards our choices? For the most part, I find his responses completely predictable. Sometimes I am surprised -- most of the time I am not. Poor Kelly, he is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. If he pulls out the stick and whacks someone on a choice they have made -- he is an evil orge. If he is solicited for advice, and responds -- he is a savior. So, for the record: Kelly thinks good SET amps, and directly heated triode push-pulls sound the best. He also thinks old Eicos can hang with anything. He likes records better than CD's, and loves the sound of PIO's in most everything. He likes 6SN7 based preamps, and thinks cables make a difference. If you don't believe these things -- expect opposition. What? You expect him to agree with things that don't play in his mind well? Would you go into the HT or General Forum, and tell someone that has just decided to buy a Denon receiver -- that they made "a grand choice"? Would you offer praise to one who just threw down $1K on an amp you've heard, and knew first hand -- fell short? Maybe not even heard, but knew it was poorly received or reviewed. Can anyone here really say they can offer an opinion without predjudice? The true irony here, is that more than half the time -- his supposed "slams" are completely tongue-in-cheek. If you don't like what he has to say, then simply ignore the post -- there is no reason to go on a rant. "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me -- but please, don't throw sticks and stones."
  9. I'm tired of tubes. I'm going back to solid state. Follow me, and I will take you back to the Promised Land.
  10. Craig, The 7308 is the premium military version of the 6922. I personally couldn't tell any difference between Amperex 7308's and Amperex 6922 White Labels. The nice thing about 7308's is that any 7308 should perfectly match another 7308 within the same brand. Brent Jesse has a nice assortment of 6CG7's. He has the Cleartops at $17 a piece, and he also has 4 RCA 6CG7 Blackplates right now at $21 each. http://www.audiotubes.com/audtube.htm
  11. Hmmm. Tom, did you get my last email? You mentioned end of February, and I came back that I was working it. I have an item that I'm...uh...trying to 'unload'.
  12. Are you using a subwoofer? If not, you might receive the most benefit from some RF-3 II floorstanders, which match the RC-3 II center. At any rate, the monitors that 'match' the RC-3 II in timbre and build are the RB-3 II and RB-5 II. For the difference in price, I would opt for the RB-5 II, which is my personal favorite. However, if there are budget constraints -- go with the RB-3 II.
  13. Without question -- the most powerful story I read was Ray's. I almost wept while reading it, having to choke back tears several times. Content aside -- it was also very well written. After reading it, I threw in the towel, and just decided to come up with something 'spiffy'. I simply had no 'Klipsch Experience' that even remotely compared with it. How does one compete with: "My Klipschorns saved my sanity."?
  14. Gee Lynn, no one's starting a 'war' here. Give me some credit will you. Just the same -- Sorry Crash.
  15. It is the year 4701 - The Year of the Goat. Personally, I think we're all screwed.
  16. Actually, I think the Cornwalls are 98db/w -- which is actually LESS than the Chorus.
  17. If it's 'red' -- it's going to have A1 on it. Didn't I call collect? ...Crap
  18. Original Post edited. No reason to use Crash's thread as a pulpit. Sorry everyone. A person does not 'become' religious. The truth is, we are all 'religious', as everyone has a 'belief system" through which they view reality. I believe your last post demonstrates this. At any rate -- losing someone is a major bummer, no matter what angle you take it from
  19. Kelly, death is not "natural".
  20. Lower price of the RB-35 over the RB-5 may be because the RB-5 had real wood veneer, and the RB-35 uses vinyl veneer. I'm only guessing here -- since I don't know much about the new line. Changing the RB-5 was a mistake. It is a standout product, sounds better than the RF-3, and should have been made a permanent part of the RF-5/RF-7 family. Of course, I haven't heard the RB-75, which may be a step up.
  21. I agree. Ditched my sub in favor of the cohesiveness of two good speakers. Unless you plan on watching a lot of movies -- don't bother. Keep in mind that when using a sub with the RF-7's, you have to send the full range signal through the passive x-over components in the sub. There is certainly signal degradation because I've heard it.
  22. "...quality 2A3 PP amp...will come in around 15w of full triode power, something the single-ended version cannot achieve." Wanna bet?
  23. Tone controls? Why mess with knobs when it's SO much easier just to change your cables around. Need more bass? Throw them fat Monsters on. Need more treble? Get out the silver cables! It's always about trade offs. If you want the increased transparency and lower noise floor -- you have to ditch the knobs. I like only having two knobs on my preamp -- anything more than that -- and I get all confused and stuff.
