  1. Well, I got the itch for the most warm and airy sounding tube amps for my Khorns. I am getting satisfyingly accurate sound from HK Citation IIs, HeathKit W5Ms, and Bel Canto SET40 in my set up. Now, I'd like to experiment for different sound from a tube amp doesn't have to be so accurate but produces classic warm and airy tube sound. I have had a modern EL34 tube amp for a pair of B&Ws once before that was pretty close. I am considering about Marantz 8B. Let me hear from Khorn/8B owners. Any other suggestions? Thanks, Ki
  2. FYI, I ran into a pair of WO Belle Klipsches on Seattle Craig's list for $1K recently. I agree there are many scammer on the CL lately. I've been able to see their location and stay away from the ones with no location info or out of state deals. Ki
  3. Guys: Getting back to the original subject of Wilson Audio. I visited my local Wilson dealer in Seattle area and gave a listen to their Watt/Puppy 7 and their latest Alexandra (?). The manager whom I have dealt with before told me that when I buy the Alexandra, Mr. Wilson himself will fly and visit my home to fine tune the speakers placement and give me instructions on how to achieve the best sound. I decided not to invite Mr. Wilson to my house. It was too much trouble to transfer $125,000 from savings to checking that day. Ki
  4. Here's a true Gem: Samsung HD-841 DVD player (~$180). I got the Multiformat DVD player (it plays just about all audio and video disks you can feed it...) to compare its DVI-D video output to Bravo D2 DVD player that everyone's been raving about. To my total surprise, its two channel Red Book CD play back performance is outstanding. I would attribute HD-841's stella performance with the latest development in all-in-one digital chipset (don't know what it is since I haven't opened its top). Having low number of internal components with minimal power requirements, its meger power supply must be good enough. It is totally transparent and true to its original recording. The only difference I hear between Samsung and much more expensive Sony SCD-1 is the added filter settings in Sony - altering the soincs (making the sound a little pleasant to my ears but different). I would recommend it. Ki
  5. Dr. Bill, It seems you have confirmed what Jim McShane, the Citation II Guru's been preaching over the years. I will try them on my Cit IIs. Where is the best place to order the KT90s? Ki
  6. Thanks for your inputs. I am not going to use an active crossover. I just wanted to remove the jumpers and power the woofers separately using the exsting passive crossover if possible. I am looking for the manual in the house somewhere... However, if the woofer is to handle signals higher than 80hz, I am afraid the attempt would not work. It seems my K-horns need help just below 50hz on down about +10db to make them flat in my music room. I can achieve it by adding the powered subs but would rather not add them in my K-horn setup if possible. Ki
  7. I once had two 2200's but both had problems with output relay going bad. At that time, I was using an Ampzilla that had been updated by the its creator, Jame Bongiorono, to drive a pair of Maggies. For a fun, I replace the Zilla with NAD 2200 and I was amazed at how much better the NAD was in all sonic catagories. I sent the Ampzilla back and forth several times and gave up at the end. But then the NAD's started to have output relay problems, I gave up on them also. Ki
  8. One of the fourm members sent me a message saying how he is enjoying his new SVS subs as much as the Khorns. I have also noticed many of other members have powered sub(s) to go with their Khorns. So I experimented with one of the Velodyne 15" powered subs from my HT set up to agument two Khorns in my 2CH setup. It tooks some doing to settle for 40Hz low pass crossover point at 18db/oct slope and trying all possible placements along the room boundaries to get the best results. I have almost flat (+/-2db) from 20 Hz on up with the sub. The only exception is at the 31.5Hz tone is down 5db in my room. I think I can add another sub and fill the dip. However, before adding the sub, I noticed I have pretty even responses from 31.4 Hz on up down about 10db to 50Hz. It got me thinking how about if I were to biamp the woofers with SS amp to boost the bass a bit, I think I will get the similar response without the powered sub to added about +10db from 31.5Hz to 50Hz by biamping (almost a tone control). Has anyone tried biamping their later model Khorns with separate terminals by removing the jumpers? This subjest must have been discussed but I could not fine a thread. Thanks, Ki
  9. Mick: I checked the possibility of removing the very top piece as you had suggested. Are you talking about four phillips screws that must access from bottom up? If so, I would have to use the short stubby screw drivers to remove the top. How about the grilles? Has anyone come up with good way to remove the grilles from Belle Klipsch? Removing and cleaning the grilles on Khorns were easy. It seems the bottom grilles would be difficult to remove on Belles. In addition, isn't there a forum member who works on reapplying veneer to old Klipsch speakers? I would love to send him one of the Belle Klipsch top that has 1/3 of the walnut veneer missing at the front edge strip (a handy work of previous owner's 2 year-old). Thanks again guys, it's going to be a good time for me cleaning Klipsch Belles over the holidays. Ki
  10. I am thinking about giving baths to two of my Belles. They came to me with tons of cobwebs and years of dirt and stains, I am not sure just cleaning them with furniture cleaning stuff would do the job. They are WO finish and direct contact with water would not be good. Let me know if you have better ideas on how to give a serious cleaning to them. Ki
  11. Thanks guys. BTW, what's a reasonable price for a working one? Ki
  12. I was not aware of plenty availability... Yeah, it would be better to try a working one. I have heard about the receiver for a while and thought I could try it not knowing there are others in working condition. Thanks for the info. Ki
  13. Russ: I just placed a bid in hopes that I would win and you can help me pick up and ship the receiver to me in Seattle. Your good deed will not go unnoticed. Thanks, Ki
  14. OP: What's the model number for the in-wall speaker shown? Nice pictures of an awesome system, yes. Maybe your photos will inspire me to take some of my HT setup...over the holidays. Thanks, Ki
  15. Hi Sunnysal: By my last count, I am down to two pairs of Khorns (from four at one time...), two pairs of Belle Klipsches, five Heresy's and an Academy. One of the Khorn pair is rather young - I think they are 2002 or 2003 can't remember but the other pair is P or R (mid 70's but prettier...) as well as the Belle Klipsches. One of the forum members in my area, Hoggy, had upgraded his Khorn to ALK's and I am planning to pay him a visit and decide if crossover upgrades are right for me. Ki
  16. Hi, What do you know about this person and his work? http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?spkrfull&1108352045 Thanks, Ki
  17. Dan: To add to above wisdom, when I compare DVI to Component signal I find the DVI images to be sharper but less colorful or a bit washed out in comparison to the same material viewed using the Component output. It is one man's opinion but I believe this condition is due to DVI signal viewed in pure digital format such as DLP projectors, one is seeing the master source material as close as possible. The component signal is converted from digital original to analog then through the cable (with all the analog cable variables) into analog input of the display that converts back to digital before throwing the image. Thus, it's not as pure as the DVI. Currently I have Samsung DVD-HD841 DVD player and Bravo D2 both with DVI and component outputs driving an Infocus 7200 DLP front projector with 110" Stewart Filmscreens's Firehawk. I use Toshiba HDTV/Direct TV tuner but it only has 1081i component output. I should be getting an LG HDTV tuner + hardisk recorder with DVI output with 720p like all the other boys in this forum soon. As far as the peformance difference between 1081i vs 720p, I believe it depends on your display's native horizontal resolution. I do like the 1081i but the image is not as good when fast moving scenes are displayed and from my viewing distance, I hardly miss the increased lines when viewing native 720P image - my default setting. Ki
  18. I was tainted by the man's stereotypical lounge singing image and had no interests in his music. Then one of my business trips to Chicago this summer, I heard a young guy singing live at the Mike Ditka's steak place as I was leaving. I was so impressed with his voice and the song he was singing, I went up to him and found out the song was They Way You Look Tonight and it was sang by Sinatra. So when I got home, I got the CD with the song and have been enjoying ever since. I'd like to get more Sinatra music and this thread gave me three I must to get... bad influence. Ki
  19. One of my 2002 Khorns have the original factory seal with rubber but had to be place in a corner with window trims on both sides. I ended up adding the foam pipe insulation material on top of the factory seals to overcome 1/2" gap from the wood trims on both walls. I had struggled to make a fales wall for the problem corner and gave up. But I am very pleased with the result of double sealing. I was listening to the beginning of the Also Sprach Zarathustra (Telarc) by Richard Strauss last night and smiled. Low organ notes at ~30Hz, was no problem even without the subs. Ki
  20. Dave: I went to school for EE and CS and later studied business. Since the DotCom bust in Seattle, I now work for a company that manufactures nuclear steam generator inspection insturements (A/D, DSP, and heavy number cruching) and eddy current probes that operates in MHz ranges. Knowing the gravity of the work our instrumentations and probes are undertaking with the potential risk of less than perfect handling of digital and analog signals from steam generators, it blows my mind to read about some of the cable companies making claims about their cables working within the audio bandwidth... We use Belden and Alpha cables, nothing fancy, to keep the most of the nuclear steam generators around the world operating properly. Ki
  21. "a leg of lamb dinner".... (put a heavy drool smilie here) Where did she live? Do you think she has a need for nuclear steam generator inspection instrumentations? Ki
  22. Let me know if you can share your decision on which model to get. I know the current 7205 is better but more expensive considering there are NOS of 7200 at much less. I will be using with a Firehawk 110" screen in a relatively dark room.
  23. Six years and 15 days ago, I sold a set of Krell preamp and power amp to a guy in NJ on a COD term. UPS forwarded me two Chase Manhattan bank cashier's checks for $7,800. I deposited them into my saving and I was happy. Three weeks later, I received a call asking me to come the bank... They were counterfiet checks, processed through my bank, went to Chase and they were discoverd to be bad. The sadest part of my saga was that I had him identified through his ongoing fraud activities and altered all possible law enforcement agencies in NJ and WI including FBI...they informed me the amount wasn't bigt enough to assign anybody... There were three other indiviuals who got scammed by the same guy at the time. Even all four of us getting together, nothing could be done other one of us getting on the airplane with a baseball bat or something similar... I was able to retrieve $1500 from my homeowners insurance under counterfiet currency protection claues but I was a sad puppy for a long time. Ki
  24. Let me know if you can ID these two Heathkit Int. amps and let me know what they are worth. They are in as new condition. Thanks, Ki
  25. Yeah... I could use another Cit II... even with the hums. Fini, you should get the amp. Judging from its pictures, the amp is worth more than the asking price for certain (or should I say I paid a lot more for my Cit IIs that were not in as good of conditions as the one here). If it doesn't work out for you, you can alway unload it without any financial loss. Until you hear both good and bad characteristics of the Cit II and make up your own mind, you are short changing yourself! My 2 cents. Ki
