  1. An EL34 and KT77 IS the same exact thing, also a 6CA7 is the same exact thing! KT77 is just the British version. Just like a 12AX7 is the same as an ECC83 (European version), or a 5751 (US military version), or a 7025 (Industrial version)! Need I go on?! Yes Chops, please do. It is very enlightening to a tube newbie, to know which tubes are British, military or for any other reason each other counterparts. Thanks, Tim.
  2. Well, well done Craig! Wow, isn't there a site that sums up all specs and pics? Whata wonderfull job!!!! Talk to you soon, Tim.
  3. I would go for the album with Bertha on it. I can't even remember which album it is but it is great. Me and my self proclaimed brother used to play indoor frisbee while playing it. Via the heater, plant pots and walls we tried to hit the replay button on my Marantz CD80 and did so many times without destroying the machine . You should have seen it! Jerry died 3 months early for me to see him live, instead of the allowed three months I wandered the west coast for 20 months. The border patrol grilled me for hours before letting me through 8 years later (this last january). Long live Jerry. BTW: I always thought he sang: Ï had a hard on, running by the window". Instead of "a hard run". Tim

I've heard, I have no power reg., that with some setups you lose some dynamics. I'm no expert, just telling what I've heard, could be nonsense though. Try it anyway, to find a cause eliminate possibilities. I also agree that Heresies should be on the floor, preferably in the corner, just like K-horns. Another thing, I'm going to visit a fellow Heresy owner soon, who has upgraded his filter with better caps and wire. He says it also improves the bass, doesn't really extend it, but improves it. Although I think, if improvements can be heard they should be mostly mid and high-range. Good luck, Tim.
  5. What would be a nice pre-pre if you want to use mc, or is the choice of a pre-pre more related to the element/needle? Tim.
  6. Well done, and away with the itch for the weekend! Enjoy it! Are you looking for anything in particular? I can look around for you if you are looking for Dutch or German or the occasional Russian pressing, I live in Holland. Tim.
  7. o o DANGER! Oh well, why not get your fix, "if it makes you happy, it can't be that bad" (Sherryl Crow).
  8. Hi guys, just curious! Of Course Macs have always had quite a following. I've heard some, but unfortunately never a tube Mac. I'm very interested to learn a bit more of the advantages and disadvantages of the models, either stereo or monoblocks. For instance what is the difference in sound between the mc30, mc40, mc60 and the mc75, except for the wattage? Different tubes, I know the KT88 has the most bass slam, what about the rest? I guess the same questions account for the mc225, 240, 250, 275, 275 comm, etc. Any income welcome, what's your favourite?
  9. I am 36 and have upgraded from an ultra low-fi mono cassette player to where I am now. I have always kept my love for music and the joy , yes extasy that it can bring. Good equipment helps as we all know. Many things made with love are pricy, and there is no contradiction in that. I,m glad that I'm not near the final upgrade. Next to listening to great music, there's this magic in our secret little boy's laboratory, with spinning wheels, mysterious fumes and red glowing bulbs, isn't there? Tim.
  10. That's all very tough. I wish you strength! Don't forget, all you can do is your best. Seems like you're doing that righ now. Thanks for sharing. Tim.
  11. @$#*!!! 34 seconds too late, sorry Roy! Tim.
  12. Hi Allan, look what these Northern European martians have to say about your TT: http://www.hiendfi.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=61 please don't ask me to translate the rest, I haven't got a clou !
  13. Gary, your negligence has been forgiven , for this time . Craig, happy birthday man. I'm 9 years behind you, but you know what Lou Reed sang in 'a gift' (to all the women in this world); "like a good wine I'm better as I get older!" All the best, Tim.
  14. Sorry, wishing you and the family strength. Also glad to hear he won the first battles to give his love and kid a few good years. That's not much of a comfort though, I know. Tim.
  15. That's a beauty indeed! Thanks Bryan. I'll take it 'in consideration'. Tim.
  16. Having been exposed to your sense of humor. I think it's a good idea to not ignore the f...ed up carts. Make it a juicy story! You think the shelter is the winner in that pricerange?
  17. This one is awesome, expecially when filled with bitumen. I also put in goldplated rca-jacks. I'm saving for a VPI-scout (the bigger, sandwiched one). Over here (The Netherlands) that'll cost me 3000,- ex cartridge!(app. $3500.-) Why do I like American audio and why can't it be imported cheaper? BTW, I almost got there... untill I bought Craig's 272.
  18. I knew what a wanker is, but after a few beers I lost track of the rest of this post. I'll try again after a long weekend of relaxation... No! with my girlfriend so I don't need to... See you guys next week. And don't let me find the forum closed, or else...!
  19. For audiophiles, or addicts probably, it's always a good sign that there is someone crazier than you are. Thanks for making clear that my íllness' is nowhere near your's madness! It is now 00.15hrs in Holland and I'm listening to Silver's Blue on my Grado's while typing this. I'm only 35 years old, so by the time I get into your league, those blue notes will be available only at an astronomical value. I've just sent in an application to take over Bill Gates' job, just in case my situation goes you way. Always interested in your tips. My best find of the last months was the: Shelley Manne and his Men at the Black Hawk 1 on Contemporary. What great live music, well recorded! I know not Blue Note, But I'm not that far off topic am I?
  20. you need ten records to complete your selection! Wow!!!!! If you ever get the chance, run us a slide show of the records you have. Any doubles you want to get rid of? Tim. BTW, congrats!
  21. Hello Smilin', as many others have on this forum I've been there too. Sometimes it's good to share with people who understand a little bit of what you are going through. Most has been said already. Quality time spent with her and her other loved ones is your only priority now. Now and whatever time you have left is the time to do all you ever wanted to do together. I found the hardest task was to abandon all shame and uneasiness. I didn't talk with my father as I did to friends. Changing this very quickly meant to me and my dad that we became best friends just before he died, even more than we already were. Just do the best you can. There will always be moments when you think; I wish I'd... I wish you strength and I consider it a great honour that you share this with me. Tim.
  22. Actually this is supposed to be a new TT, nevertheless I agree with Craig this one is not the way to go. Actually the only TT's by Dual I would consider a good buy are the 701 and ... was it the 1021? Let me get back at this. Tim.
  23. congrats! One day I'll be as lucky. For me it's not the buying price, it's the shipping to Holland. Must cost thousands, anyone emigrating to Europe want to make a few bucks?
  24. Just wondering. Anyone have any experience with this one? Great looks and reviews. And hey Smilin', has pathos been ordered/arrived yet? I was very interested in the Scott, but did not have time that day . Tim.
