  1. Give these guys a call and see if they can help: Dixie Speaker Repair 205.945.3006 705 Oak Grove Road Homewood, Alabama 35209
  2. "Effective 2-6-2006 all DIRECTV dealers will need to ensure that they install the required 5-LNB (Ka/Ku) multi-satellite dish with the H20 receiver in all DMA's, regardless of market or zip code" This is the equipment needed to receive local channels in HD. According to the information that I have, Phoenix should have locals in HD sometime this spring. If you have DTV HD equipment now, you can only receive HD networks (East or West coast) if your local stations allow you to (waiver). Local stations want you to see local advertising not N.Y or L.A.'s.
  3. You have another backup to the backup to the backup........... Live in Trussville. Office in Argo. Local Klipsch guys, let me know if you need DIRECTV stuff. Birmingham local channels in HD coming this spring!!!!!!! Always willing to trade for good used Klipsch gear!!!!!!!!!!!!![][][]

When I've had some time to listen I'll post a review with pictures. ---------------- I'm, I mean, we're waiting......

He calls me his rainy day customer and I get a great deal!

I ordered the AVR 235, I went ahead and paid the Overnight shipping for $50.00 so I will have it tomorrow, yes I am an impatient little SOB lol. TV is being delivered tomorrow so I should be up and running tomorrow night. I will let you all know it sounds. One more question for you all. I have a Dish Network HD receiver. I think I should get a surge protecter with the hook up for the Sat cable, should I get this ans what you guys recomend. Thanks again ---------------- 50 bucks for overnight, you are in a hurry!! Let the Dish Net fry, then switch to the #1 Sat provider, ** DirecTV **. My bad... (Can you tell what I do for a living?) I would get a decent surge protector and plug ALL of your gear into it. Most people spend more on surge protection for their PC than their AV gear which costs much more to replace imo.
  7. HK AVR235. $349.00 with free shipping and no sales tax outside of NY at www.jr.com !!!!!
  8. A few months ago I found a single KG4 on Ebay as well. After winning it with a bid of 78 bucks (bought my mains for $100 a few years back, and after a $20 diaphram fix I had my first real taste of non commercial line Klipsch!), I had a mounting issue above my 32" CRT. Fixed it by using a TV wall mount bracket. It works great this way and sounds so much better than the SC1 I was using.
  9. Sorry for the slow reply... Take a look at ratshack.com for them as I'm not sure. Let us know how you made out. Also, don't forget to get a Y patch cable if you are going to use the L/R inputs on the sub...

After I replaced it with Quad and RCA compression fittings, it was a very noticable improvement.

Just Tivo'ed upcoming shows. FYI, 5 episodes scheduled. 2/28, 3/1, 3/2, 3/3, 3/4. All shows 6:30 eastern on DIY Network. ---------------- Had a DIY network marathon last night thanks to Tivo! Watched 5-30 minute epoisodes in less than 2 hours (can't watch live tv anymore!) but anyway.. Pretty interesting stuff. Always read Corey Greenberg when he was writing for Home Theater magazine. Enjoyed him and Brent Butterworth every month for a couple years. Anyway...(once again), I have a project that I will get you forum members involved in during the next several weeks. I'm opening a new office/showroom for my Directv business. 17'X 18" display room for Directv parts and accessories, along with telco/networking, A/V accessories. Phase II is a 13'wide X 23'long X 8' tall home theater room. Front wall is sheetrock, along with the left side wall. Right side wall is concrete block, and the back wall is also sheetrock with pine bookshelves from floor to ceiling. Ceiling is 2x2 tiles with fiberglass bat insulation laying on top. I will be of course using this room to demo DVR with Tivo and DD 5.1 and also High definition and HD DVR with Tivo in DD 5.1. IT WILL NOT BE A HIGH END ROOM! HOWEVER, IT WILL ALSO NOT BE AT THE LOW END! There are plenty of custom HT dealers in the Birmingham AL. area. There are also, as you can imagine plenty of Wal-Marts here (HTiaB). I will post pictures soon so you can start brainstorming if you wish. If it takes a while for me to respond, it is because I am VERY BUSY and EXCITED about this project..

Once the two new high-capacity software formats come out, you'll see nearly everything on those formats coming in 7.1 (or higher...) channel encoding, and in all likelihood, it'll be uncompressed, since the software will be able to hold 3-6x the data compared to current DVDs. It's literally a limitation of disc space that's preventing 7.1 discrete channel encoding on DVD's right now... ---------------- Took a look at the HD-DVD thread, thanks. I also saw the articles in Sound and Vision. I guess my problem has been too much Tivo and not enough DVD. More than likely premium channels and PPV will catch up with the 6.1 and 7.1 formats in the future. May as well invest in 7.1, as it's easier to purchase speakers in pairs ( I did get lucky when I purchased a single kg4 to use as my center!! ) Wasn't Dolby also working on an overhead channel? I remember reading something about it a while back. Would that mean 8.1?
  13. The audio standard for high definition television (as far as I have seen) is 5.1. After grazing at Best Buy yesterday for close to an hour ( not a complaint by the way), DVD movies and DVD music is 5.1 (with music DVD's having a 2 channel option). My questions... Why are HT receiver/prossessor manufacturers phasing out 5.1 and producing only 6.1 and 7.1 ? I have heard HT systems being fed a stereo signal and processing it into Pro Logic II and is the most annoying thing to me. Is a 5.1 source being processed into 6.1 or 7.1 going to be as bad as PLII ? I want to upgrade my HT receiver before I buy a HD television and it is slim pickings on 5.1 at this time.

Also, if I switch to my Yamaha CDR-HD1300 CD Jukebox the volume has to be turned down. Does anyone know of a volume regulator that will regulate the volume of several different inputs both digital and analog? How do you guys handle this situation? Is turning down the volume manually the only way to effectively acheive the same amount of volume between stations? ---------------- Hey ritchie, Go to www.terk.com. They have a device that i guess kind of copies the smart sound concept of some tv sets. This might give you the results that you are looking for.

  16. If DIRECTV only added two to three times the current HD programming this year it would be 12 to 18 channels, and you are right, this is not much. Even if you add your local channels that you can get OTA, 8 in my area, this still would only bring the grand total to 26. Not much on the plate. At the moment the HD channels listed are: Discovery HD THEATER, ESPNHD, HDNet, HDNet Movies, HBO HDTV, SHO HD, DIRECTV Pay per View HDTV, Special Events (?), and select games on NFL Sunday Ticket. I do not have HD because of the lack of programming available on DTV, and I don't watch much network TV. (Plus the prices on DLP are comming down). I do have the Hughes SD-DVR120 DVR with Tivo and as far as I know, it has no fewer features than my first unit which is the HDVR2. I also think that the DTV DVR with Tivo is a better piece of equipment than a Dishnet PVR. I kind of like the Tivo service. My opinion only. As far as the statement that Dish uses only there own branded equipment, I have seen Echostar Receivers in the past, even have a couple that I use for door stops. I also saw RCA branded Dish receivers at Wal-Fart last night.. So the theory that Dish has better service because of the standardization of equipment is out the window.. My question is, how many Cable Networks are there out there that are broadcasting in HD? Are the Sat and Cable companies draging there feet, or is it the Cable Networks? Anyone know?
  17. A few things to consider... VOOM is Rainbow DBS, which is Cablevision Systems Corporation. Anyone remember Primestar? A satellite service owned by a group of cable companies that in my opinion started out great. But, once again in my opinion could not maintain a high level of customer service/support and was soon purchased by DIRECTV. As for a VOOM demo, there is not a working unit at my local Sears store, so I can give no opinion on the quality of programming. The 18 year old sales "professional" that probably gets a ride to and from work from his mom, had not been "trained" on the product as of yet. ( If I feel gloomy, all it takes is a trip to my local mass merchandiser's audio/video department to cheer me right up!) I saw a press release for DIRECTV a while back, and with News Corp. buying a big chunk of the company, this was said... "Focusing on the short term, during 2004 ............ Our high-definition programming will increase by two to three times, including the expansion of local HD content" FYI another quote... " In set top boxes, we will standardize our box and remote to simplify and enhance the consumer experience. This standardization will focus on the best features and make the DIRECTV experience easier to sell, understand and service." Just a little food for thought... And remember, opinionions are like a**holes, everybody has one

Do the dishes have three coax connections, or can I get by with two? When we built, I only ran dual-lead coax to all my TV drops, so I'm wondering if I'll have to run another coax, which would be a major PITA. Thanks for your help. ---------------- As Easylistener said, the triple LNB has 4 outputs from it's built-in multiswitch that will connect up to 4 standard sat receivers. And it is also true that you need 2 lines for the tivo unit if you wish to take advantage of the 2 tuners. One thing that I suggest to my customers is to add a powered 5 in/8 out multiswitch to the setup. #1 reason is to be able to add a HDTV antenna to the system and #2 reason is to have enough outputs (from dish) for upgrades (tivo) etc. With all the new customer deals out there (3 X FREE), spend a little extra money and get it wired right the first time. And if you can, use a local DirecTV guy. P.S. 2 drops to each TV is a great idea....
  19. I bought a pair of used kg4's about 6 years ago for 100 bucks, 20 bucks for a new diaphram, and I've loved them ever since. Not too long after I bought them, you could come to the website and enter the model of Klipsch mains, and you would get a recomendation for a center channel ( of course a third kg4 is ideal ). What was recomended at that time was the SC1. There may be a better choice now, but I have been very happy with the system I have put together. kg4's SC1 Atlantic Technology 254.1's KSW 10
