  1. Does anyone have a lot number or run of RC35's that were effected by this defect? Thanks!
  2. TOTEM... ANother great Canadian speaker! A previous post is right, be sure to timber match your speakers! I have my Klipsch Reference 35's set-up with an energy centre temporarily and it sounds OK, but not great! Also, take a peak at the Arcam line for receivers, a good match for Totem. Have fun! Steve
  3. Hi All! Also, is it true that if High Def., the s-video will deliver 480 lines and componenet 720? (or something like that?) Thanks
  4. Has anyone used the Omnimounts? I am conteplating them and would like some feedback! Thanks Steve
  5. I am also thankful for all the great music ideas that my fellow Klipsch(ins?) have put forward. Also of interest to some would be Josh Groban and Norah Jones. Josh is more opera, but Norah is sweet jazz stylings! CHeers! Steve
  6. OK... I just had to jump in here although there has probably been more then enough said. Price control is a must if you want a product that is properly Sold, Warrantied and Serviced! 1. YES, authorized dealers are make much larger margins on the speaks, but they also ship from warehouses that are climate controled and are fully insured. Costs involved in both of these! E-Tailers may run warehouses, and in some instance basements, that are all but ratholes! Dealers do have the overhead of running the nice showrooms, where you no doubt went to check out the speakers prior to buying online. Additionally, the sales people that assisted you prior to buying online also get paid! Did I mention the inventory that the dealer carries to support the cutomer's immediate sale and aftersale warranty issues. 2. Sales Support simply isn't there with online sales. Hey, didn't we just cover this above? I would say that is well worth a couple of points on the price. 3. Yes you do pay for warranty within the price of a product, on everything you buy! Why do you think Plasma TV's are expensive and slow to come down in price? You pay for warranty replacement cost up-front (in ralation to the probability of having to replace the unit) to cover the unforseen. Plasma TV's are sealed units that, with some failure with the only resolution being complete replacement. You pay for this in the price! Every manufacturer has an expectation that a certain percentage of product will, regardless of the manufacturing excellence, fail. I have seen Lexus, Mercedes and BMW on the side of the road too! If you don't want a replacement upon failure, don't expect it when you ONLY paid for the COGS (cost of the goods) plus a small mark-up from an online dealer. When you purchase from an authorized dealer you are paying for COGS + MARKUP (SALES & SERVICE) + WARRANTY. Klipsch would be out of business pretty fast, as would many other manufacturers, if the warranty repair factor wasn't built into the business plan with regards to the selling price of a product! Where would we all be without our Klipsch!?
  7. Great deal. Are they authorized dealer and have a website? I would love to look into this and get one!
  8. Mamacmil, I had some point out the following to me when I was contemplating what to you as rears in a 6.1/7.1 setup... So it sounds like two more RS-7's may be in order for the rear. "I noticed you said you were considering RB-35 for the surround back when you got 7.1 later, I'd suggest you match your sides and get two more RS-35. First reason: when watching 5.1 movies the surround channel will be matrixed into both surround and surround/back speakers; having a perfect match will get you a better imaing effect which will be important sense the speakerswill always run this way. Second reason: According to blind tests done by Home THeater Magazine, the resulting sound and imaging was _better_ than directs according to everyone involved in the tests. Here's the link: http://www.hometheatermag.com/loudspeakers/25/index.html
  9. Grand11 - Thanks for the feedbacl on the rear speakers. The Klipsch owner manual also indicate the RS-35 in the back. What about them being "out of phase"? I was under the impression that the rears would have to be back in phase, vs. the surrounds that are "out"? Thanks again! Steve
  10. LOL... Did I stump everyone with the last post?
  11. I am fairly new the the Norah Jones fan club, but was hooked when I downloaded (bad me!) a few songs and then went out and bought her disc (good me!), Norah Jones - Come Away with Me. If you can, find the deluxe Edition (if you aren't buying the SACD) because for only a few dollars more it comes with a New Orleans Live DVD in DD.
  12. Happy New-Year everyone. Norah Jones! Amazing sound with Klipsch!
  13. I have also been looking at these refurbs. They are current models and were probably sent back to the factory for one minor fix. I am told that when they are sent back for the one minro (or Major) fix that the complete unit is tested thuroughly, unlike new items rolling off the line. It is my impression that the refurbs have less problems/returns due to this thurough testing. Sound right?
  14. Joe, Thanks for the feedback. I have decided to run the video and sub cabling at the base of the wall, at the front of the room. I will use a Crown molding for the baseboard, which should look very good, and hide the cable is the hallow behind the 1/4 round. The speaker wire however will be perminant in-wall. I am running Commscope Ft4 16GA to the surrounds and rears, and Monster Cl3/FT4 14GA to the fronts and centre. Can anyone give me more information/feedback on front presence speakers and how they work and sound. I would use in-walls for this I assume? Thanks Steve
  15. Is it desirable to have 2 Subs of the same size? I have read that a 8 and 12 or 10 and 12 sound great together.
  16. Oh Ya... Does DM have any SACD or DVD-A releases? Steve
  17. LOL... Typical DM fans, they all think they are the biggest fans! Hey, I am no different. Have all the albums, 12"'s (Yes Vinyl) and imports. Have all of you heard Martin's and Dave's new solo albums? Dave's was great! Martin's was OK, a lot like his previous and the sound (to me) is getting old. Finally, has anyone picked-up the New DM 101 DVD release yet? Is it in DTS? Any good? Thanks Steve
  18. Thanks for the feedback HTrookie. I have since purchased the Reference 35 series. Hooked them up to my older Yamaha receiver and they sound great. I can't wait to get them into the HT downstairs when it is done. I have had lots of good feedback on the Denon and the Yamaha, but I am starting to lean toward the Yamaha RX-V2400 after talking to a couple of people ehere and reading this months review n Home Theater Magazine. THX Select certified and the YPAO seem to be the deciding factors for me since they are SO close in other features/offerings. Thanks Steve
  19. I wound have to cast my vote for the Integra. Sony is great at some things, but high-end audio isn't one of them. If I am correct, Integra is the "up-line" of Onkyo and both are prime competitor to Denon and Yamaha.
  20. Lots of great information and sugestions here, but lets throw a wrench into it... What is available that plays both SACD and DVD-A with DVI out? I know most of Phillips have DVI, as do a couple of Samsung and Pioneer(I think), but any of them HD-Audio capable?
  21. Thanks for the feedback. My rears (pre-wired 8.1) are runs of about 35-40 ft. I will stick with the 16G wire there and the surrounds. I will however look for 14G CL3 as suggested for the front. The other option would be to bi-wire the fronts, but I would prefer to stay away unless someone here can give me good reason to biwire. I got a great package deal on the RW-12 with the other 5 speakers. Have it hooked-up and sounding GREAT! With the RB-35's having a 8" woofer in them, I also thought a 12" sub would be a great match. I had my Energy 8" hooked up when I was testing the Front speakers, what a mis-match! Thanks again, Steve
  22. I am doing my pre-wiring (in-wall) and was getting the quotation for spreaker wire and am a little on the ingnorant side here... the guy at the local shop was saying to run 16G, Solid Core, Bi-Wire (4-conductor) to each speaker location. Will I see a difference in the sound quality using solid core (vs. multi-thread/strand), and how exactly does the bi-wire work. This will cost a fortune! I already asked this on a seperate thread, sorry if you have already read that and this is a repeat!
  23. GaryMd Thanks for the feedback on the Cornwalls and the Heresys, but they are much larger then my set-up can handle. I am actually planning on utilizing the threaded mounting option on the back of the speaker and putting them on the wall. For all of you... I am doing my pre-wiring (in-wall) and was getting the quotation for spreaker wire and am a little on the ingnorant side here... the guy at the local shop was saying to run 16G, Solid Core, Bi-Wire (4-conductor) to each speaker location. 24. Rich Thanks for the feedback on the Yamaha Receivers. I will be keeping my eyes open, but hope to pick the speakers up on sale so will probably get those in the next week. As you know, it is a long project from framing to actually sitting watching a DTS movie! I will also keep my eyes open for 12G wire for all the runs except maybe the Suround rears, which will be pre-wired for now. Thanks for the advice on the pre-wiring pre-check before hooking-up the receiver. Have a great holiday season!
  25. Thats for the positive feedback on the Denon... I am leaning toward the AVR-3803, but still considering the Yamaha RX-V1400 or RX-V2400. Does the THX rating mean anything more then the company paying to put the stamp on the receiver? Also, I am trying to get my pre-wiring done (in-wall) and am struggling to figure out what to run to the HDTV. I am thing 1-DVI, 1-Component, 1-S-Video and 1-Composite to cover all my basis. The DVI will have to run direct from the DVD, but the component can run from the receiver. The S-Video and Composite are just back-ups! Feedback? Finally, what is the minimum speaker wire I should run... 16G, 14G? The front runs will be about 12' and 20'. The Surrounds will be about 12' and 24', and the Suround Rears will be 24' and 30'. Thanks for your help! Steve
