  1. The technician was certainly "handy" with his skills.
  2. Hope is 200 miles east of Dallas. Interstate highway (I-30) all the way to Hope.
  3. Very interesting experiments! I can't wait to hear your impressions of the GE vs. the Auricaps.
  4. "I doubt there will be unlimited future opportunities to go to Hope with the Forum crew. We've got a shot at it this year with a sympathetic administrator who's willing to make the trip. Who knows if that chance will come around next year or ever again? I'm hoping a few more Heritage buffs will jump on the Hope bandwagon to possibly swing things that way. I like the idea of going to Indy...next year!" Good point, Triceratops. It seems that travel logistics is the primary detractor for going to Hope. If flying into Dallas would be easier or less expensive than into Little Rock, maybe some of the Dallas area members would be willing to help with ground transportation to/from Hope. I could pick up at least three at DFW airport before heading to Hope. I'm sure there are others here that could do the same. Just a thought.
  5. Wow! The alternate universe theory is reality!
  6. Went to my 26th last year (our slow class couldn't get it together in time for a 25th). I recall walking up to the party and thinking "who are all these old people?" . At first I thought I had gone to the wrong reunion. Then I looked closely into a mirror .
  7. Perhaps an air-tight seal is required. Next time try an adhesive (super glue?) between the professional singer's lips and the horn. Please get back to us with the results.
  8. When I A/B a CD vs. LP of the same recording, I nearly always like the LP better. When I A/B SACD vs. LP, to me SACD sounds very much like a very clean LP.
  9. Don't use a Ford Explorer. Only one will fit.

I thought I had lost out on that deal, but ended up with them. See the thread "FS- Klipschorns $1000, Dallas"
  11. About the same time as last year (mid June) is good for me. My first choice would be Hope since I have not been there and it is easy driving distance (230 miles) from the DFW area. However, if it is in Indy, I'll still most likely come. A question for Trey, if Indy is the site, could a later "mini pilgrimage" in Hope be arranged for those of us who may like to drive in for a visit of the museum and a tour of the factory. As an engineer working in manufacturing (and owner of 10 speakers built there), I would really like to see the factory. Edit: I forgot about the KG4s, make that 12 speakers built in Hope
  12. Get the Cornwalls ASAP. I have both. KG4s are good, CWs are much better. You will not regret it.
  13. Craig, how would that Fisher compare to a NOSValves rebuilt LK-72?
  14. I built my P-traps using AudioCap PPT Theta caps and ERSE perfect layer inductors, so they should be fine. I have never heard CWs with crossovers built from premium components. That was the point of asking for opinions here before I bought expensive capacitors to play with. Thanks to all who responded. Maybe Ill just paint the motor run caps yellow and be done with it! Dean, you have a PM.
  15. "Interesting comment considering the K-79 is 3db less sensitive compared to the K-77. The additional "detail" from the Cornwall II is probably due to the different network and the way the drivers are integrated. Maybe just voiced differently?" Dean, this must be the case because the IIs are certainly brighter in the high end. The networks must be putting more energy to the K-79. BTW, the IIs measure about 2 or 3 dB louder than the CWs based on my cheap Rat Shack SPL meter. Based on the responses here, I think I will just stay with the stock caps on the CW. I'm satisfied now that they must sound pretty much like they did when new. I just did not want to be giving up anything due to old caps. Actually, I've never been dissatisfied with the sound of my CWs, but when I did the A/B with the CW IIs, I began to have doubts, and it was nagging me. I think I'm better now .
  16. I've had a Fluke 77 for 10 years, but just last week I picked up a Rat Shack True RMS meter that also measures capacitance, and has a temperature probe. I paid $15 at the Radio Shack outlet (in Fort Worth), but since it is a closeout item, there may be others at regular stores, I don't really know (it is Cat. No. 22-174B). If you call a Rat Shack in your area they may be able to locate one. I got the very last working unit (opened box, somewhat scratched). If there had been other units, I would have bought them all and offered them here at my cost, but a guy I know beat me to them and got all of the unopened ones to sell on e-bay for $50.
  17. I decided to consider recapping my 26-year-old Cornwall crossovers to improve the high frequency detail to more like what I get from my CW IIs. The CW IIs are quite a bit brighter that the CWs and I thought this might be due in part to the aging caps in the Cornwalls. Overall, I like the CWs better than the IIs, but I think my CWs could benefit from a little more resolution of detail (for lack of better terminology). So my first experiment was to replace the old caps with new GE motor run caps (cheap experiment, $18 for all four caps). I changed the caps on one speaker and compared to the other with the old caps, and to my surprise, there is no appreciable difference. I suppose I thought that the new caps might have a lower ESR and give me more high end detail, but the old caps are apparently fine. Ive read the threads on the subject and I know some like the original style caps, some like metalized film caps (Im concerned about hearing the healing process), and some like foil. BTW, I am using P-traps to calm down the squawkers. Now the question, what will something like Hovlands do for me? Since my old caps appear to be o.k,, will the $100 for four good film and foils be worth the cost (not a cheap experiment)? Or should I give up and be happy with the original crossover components since the K-77 is no match for the K-79 in the detail category? Edit: I just noticed the typo in the subject title
  18. Johnny was greatness. Part of the reason I never registered for an 8 am class in college. Had to watch Johnny (then of course a Mash rerun afterward). Johnny's talent has been missed since 1992 (I too have the last show on video), but now its especially sad knowing we will never again hear "Heeeerrrre's Johnny".
  19. My CW IIs have more high frequency detail than my Cornwalls. How much of this is due to the aging B crossovers in the Cornwalls, I am not sure. I'm going to recap the Cornwalls with film and foil caps to find out. This should tell me how much of the difference is due to the K-79 vs. the K-77. The K-52 is supposed to not suffer from the 9KHz flare like the K-55 (no P-trap required).
  20. Hey Meat! Now that you have joined the Klipsch Forum, you certainly need to get some Klipsch speakers. I know those JBLs are good, but since you heard my "new" K-horns last weekend, I think you should prepare Kim for what you REALLY want! And when you go looking for that new house, make sure you get one with two good corners!! Seadog.
  21. That's odd. I followed the instructions in Fini's post "How to insert a link into your post!" and the link works from my home and from my office computer. Anyway, thanks for trying to vote! Here it is without the fancy link: http://www.kvil.com/wedding-vote1.html
  22. I know this is way off topic, but a good friend and his girlfriend have been selected as finalists (out of 1000 applicants) in a radio station contest for a Fantasy Wedding. The radio station, KVIL in Dallas, will pick the winner based on on-line voting. My friend e-mailed this request to me: "Vote for Mark and Kim, couple #4. Hi David, Hopefully your Klipsch bretheren can help out. I'm a JBL guy, but still a nice guy. Thanks, Mark" Here are the contestants. Although Mark is a JBL owner (a nice pair of L220 speakers), if you could vote for Mark and Kim in this contest, he would be very appreciative. Thanks!
  23. Stimpy, it sounds like the "old boy" knew what he was doing audiowise. Probably a good thing you recognized this as good equipment. Someone else could have come along and thought it was worthless old junk and chucked it into the dumpster.
