  1. Goes to show you, Admirals don't know everything!
  2. This is a simple Dynamics problem solved using the equation SumF=mA. The fact that the wheels are turning in relation to the the ground only changes the frictional force from a static force to a kinetic force. Acceleration of the aircraft is going to be a function of the resultant forces acting on the aircraft divided by the mass being moved. The landing gears purpose is to support the weight of the aircraft until the point that lift provided by the wings exceeds the weight of the aircraft. the lift generated by the wings is a function of the air moving across the wings. As my dynamics prof used to say "does everbody follow what I say now?" It will fly
  3. Keep your eye out on these. You may be able to get them for only an arm, no leg! http://cgi.ebay.com/KLIPSCH-HERESY-SPEAKER-COVERS_W0QQitemZ220045600247QQihZ012QQcategoryZ61378QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  4. I'd take batch 1 or 2 if available. Hey I'll trade you some Frank Sinatra. for a batch. LOL
  5. Isn't the K55M a ceramic too? They look a lot alike, not that that matters. Oh well maybe I'll wait on the K55V's or M's for the K400 horns I bought
  6. Is there any difference between the K55 V,G and M drivers? Are they all 1 inch threaded throat openings? thanks
  7. After jumping on these i got to looking and they actually sold on Saturday but the buyer must have missed the local pickup only message and backed out so they were relisted Sunday when I ran across the listing. They really are ugly. I hope the speakers are original. I couldn't really tell from the photos.
  8. I think you may be talking about these. Not mine but I sure like the look.
  9. Nice work there! You've really got a bucket full of patience. My vote for a finish is to put something clear on that won't yellow with age.
  10. Yep, running around in their little black Tshirts like ants on a picknic basket left on the table!
  11. I don't know about yours but I'll let you know how bad these really are when I get them home! []
  12. My atomic clock set itself back. Course the coffee pot turned itself on an hour early!
  13. Went to see Seals and Seals Friday night at the local community college. I must say it was the first concert I have ever walked out on. The original program was to be held outdoors but because of rain it was moved to the performing arts center inside. The warm up band sounded fine but for some reason the sound guys just totally F'd up the whole setup. When Dan and Jimmy came out onstage you literally could not hear a word they were saying. I thought after the first song someone would pull the plug and go to intermission while they figured out what was wrong. The stage crew obviously was aware things were not right but they just let them keep on playing. It was so bad my wife and I got up and left. I was really disappointed especially since they took over half an hour between the warm up band to get set up. They didn't even change the speaker setup. It was a real mess. Sorry to see such a good pair of singers put into such a bad situation because the sound engineers couldn't get things figured out.
  14. Yep Duke, the cue isn't raising enough to lift the tonearm but everything else seems to be AOK. Probably need a new stylus, but for now I'm happy with the results. I'll start the tinkering and overhauling later to see what it's capable of.
  15. I am going to mount the cartridge this morning and see how things go from there. Hopefully in a few hours I'll know for sure. I had to search around for a copy of the setup instructions and found someone on the left coast who had scanned the 698 manual. He was kind enough to send it to me so I've got the original instructions to go by. We'll see what happens next.
  16. Here's a closeup. Everything was carefully wrapped. the arm was removed and packed away as were the platter pieces and dust cover. All the lights are working properly I just need to mount a cartridge. I have an Empire 5000 or a Grado that I'm going to start out with to see if all is well.
  17. But there's more. Inside all this packaging that must have taken me an hour to carefully unwrap I found this.
  18. I've always had a fascination with Empire turntables though some may say they aren't that good but to me they look like a fine piece of machinery. I remember seeing the adds for these in the seventy's audio mags and wishing I could afford one, but that never happened. After running into a good find on about 200 albums I got the bug for another turntable and started lurking the auction sites for a new one. That's when I came upon the old Empire tables that I always wanted so I started watching for a deal. Well I managed to pick up this 698 for a great price. The seller was listed in the US but he had a UK email address which sent up all kind of red flags. After thorough questioning him I was satisfied that the deal was real and paid him through Paypal. Then the waiting began. I was relieved when he sent me the Fedex tracking numbers so I at least new he was shipping me some rather heavy boxes for my money if nothing else. Well after a week they finally arrived. I was acting like a kid at Christmas opening up the boxes to see what was there and here is what I found.
  19. Wish I could find some K55's for $50 bucks a pair. Got some K400 horns looking for a home!
  20. Would these work sitting on top of a Jubilee bass bin? Would you need a tweeter as well or would this work in two channel?
  21. Fishing, White River, Brown trout? October spawn at the dam. Oooooh whish I was there again.....[]
  22. Fish, No,no,no,no,no.... don't dismember them, they don't deserve that kind of death. If you want to sell them put a price on them and maybe someone on the forum will pick them up. Likewise re post them on Ebay and put a starting price of what you will take for them. These are too nice to chop up for the parts world. I doubt if I could ever sell the ones I've refurbished to recoup my original cost plus shipping plus veneer, materials new caps and labor, but at least they didn't go to the dumpster. The enjoyment I get from taking an old beat up pair of speakers and turning them into something nice to look at and listen to is a lot cheaper than the cost of an hours time on the shrink's couch.
  23. I need one with the round magnet if you have it. I'll send a pm
