Cornwall Nudie!

Uh...First time posting pics on the new forum. Not sure what went wrong. Second try.

[] I haven't had a chance until now to post a thread on my weekend Klipsch find. I bought this unlikely pair from the orginal owner. She said they bought the Shorthorn back in 1958 and later (around 1968 or so) bought the Cornwall. The dealer told them it was the closest match to their old Klipsch. They were hooked up to their stereo in a really large room and sounded spectacular. I had no choice but to buy them. I paid way over my budget for the pair and a Mac 1700 receiver, but I figure I might sell one or both speakers and keep the Mac for free, plus a little on the side. I sure wish I had the room to mate the Cornwall (with vertical horns) with my Khorns, with my Forte's serving a close enough match for my rears, but my room is not even big enough for what I have as is. [] If both speakers had been Cornwalls, I would be sorely tempted to keep the Corns and sell somethig else to pay for them. Bye the way, the Mac sounds great with my Khorns. Not tubes, but way smoother sounding than my big vintage Japanese receivers or my modern Kenwood receiver. I need to get my Scott to Craig....... Regarding the speakers, the Cornwalls sound as good as everyone on the fourm has raved about them. Great bass, and the classic Klipsch details and dynamics. They make my Fortes sound "little" next to them (though the Fortes might be a little tamer on the highs). They sure impresive looking and great sounding speakers! A suprise was the "little" Shorthorns. WOW! They don't have the bass of the Cornwalls let alone the Khorns, but they sure have a sweet sounding midrange. With another Shorty in the other corner, these would make an awsome sounding setup in a smaller room with a sub. The drivers are all very impresive looking with large University horns and a monster 15" Stephens Trusonic woofer (makes the Cornwalls woofer look cheap by comparison). I've been using a pair of old 12" Stephens coaxils speakers that I bought a couple of months ago (keep forgeting to post pics), and I love them. Less dynamic then Klipsch, but a very smooth and beautiful sounding midrange with tight deep bass. Different flavors for different moods. The Shorthorns have the rich smooth mids of my little Stephens boxes, with the detailed crisp sound of the Khorns, with low end bass been the only loss. God I wish I had a larger home and a buget that allowed me to keep all the audio I find. Oh well, at least my wife "let" me keep the Khorns I found last September, I can't cry too much. Yup, Like Colin says, they sell on eBay for anywhere between $25-$100. If its in near prefect shape, I'd happily pay around $80 for one. I got mine for only $5 at a thrift a little over a year ago. Really nice sound with horns with a deep and smooth sound to it. Good luck.

yea, I saw that artical today too. Sounds like that cart has a pretty big folowing. Paul, that writer Gary Krakow, has some pretty informative articals on his collum. He seems down to earth, and yet quite knowlegable about current (and past) hi-fi. He'd probably fit in nicely with us loons.

EVguy, here's a picture of my KC-BR Khorns when I first got them. I've cleaned and oiled them sinse then. It took me a while to realize I had no veneer, and they were only stained. Like Meg, I wish they had a bit more color in them.

Thank you Mr. Horonzak for your consideration on helping to preseve these great treasures. I second Dr Who on scanning on disk. One scan, and you have as many printouts as you want. Much cheaper then printing muliple copies. Plus the information is more readily shared and thus preserved. I'd be willing to contribute at least a small amount to any funds needed. David

Congratulations on your new Khorns. They are deffiently worth a double trip. At least you had the sense to take off the tops before moving them. I uh, didn't think of it when I picked up mine. []. Remember that you can remove the side grills easily also.

Thanks for the complement Daddy Dee and Bdbaba! I wish I had the skills to make some thing as simple as some stands, but alas, I don't. [] They're older commercial stands. They do look like they were made for the Heresy's though, with a slanted top no less. Dave

Hello and welcome! Sounds like your on your way to some audio bliss. I also like the way the old HK430/730's sound on Klipsch. The smaller Marantz 22xx series are also nice and warm too as are the older Sansui receivers from the very early '70s. Another consideration if your budget alows is the Forte. A great speaker all around. Like someone xman posted, I have pair of Heresy's for sale as well as a 50 watt per channel Sansui 5000x receiver that sounds great with them. (see my post and link here in 2 channel). The HK's are a bit of a better bargain though. Good luck on your finding what you're looking for. You've come to the right place. There are a great bunch of guys here.

Very nice! My family is contemplating a move soon, and its difficult to find houses with two perfect corners. I'm gathering info and pictures for ideas if it comes to needing false corners. Your and ZebraHorn's are my two favorites. Welcome to the forum! []

Great stories! Here is my story which I posted as my introduction on the Klipsch Forums. My Forte's have given me a great amount of listening pleasure since then. When I found my '78 Khorns a few months ago, I had thought I'd sell the Forte's to pay for the Khorns. Couldn't do it. Ended up selling other equipment instead. Hello Everybody, I've been lurking at this great forum for over a month, and its past time I say Hello. My dreams of a great sounding home system started some years back when I first heard a "high end" system at al local retailer. A year ago, I subscribed to TAS and Stereophile. A pity I modestly support a family of five, with my wife full time in Collage to actually afford their highly recommended interconnects, let alone the latest Wilson/Halcro etc. systems. [] Being the frugal sort of guy I am, my wife and I often hit the local Goodwills to see if any bargains are there. I've found some AR3a's in need of refoaming, some nice little Baby Advent IIs in great shape and some other misc. finds, but a month ago while sitting at the computer at work (doing work of course), I get a call from my wife saying she saw a "big pair of nice looking speakers, K..something. KLH? Klipsch?, I say? Yes, Klipsch might be it she says. Too bad the stores closed now. That evening I gain a couple more grey hairs as I imagine what these speakers may be. $150 a pair my wife said, pretty pricey for Goodwill, and for our budget at the time. First thing in the morning I hop in my Jeep to the store. There still there. 1986 oiled Forte's!! Very good shape, minus a few light nicks and scratches. $150/pair. I try to look bored for the store employees. Being the cheap *** I am, ask the manager if he might sell them a little cheaper. "Depends on how much cheaper", he says. I'll take them for $120, says El cheapo..... Sounds good the manager says !!! Klipsch Forte's in Jeep, one happy Forte owner. Happy 20th! Forte's!!

Hello everyone, I have a pair of (I believe) 1980 Heresy I's in unfinished birch for sale if anyone is interested. They are in good cosmetic shape with the worst flaw being some plant pot watermarks on both tops (one is recessed into the wood a bit). Overall, they look nice and they sound great. Wow! That guy sure gets some good gear. I live in Albuquerque and I know where the seller's electronic store is. If anyone wants me to check them out, let me know and I'll see if he has them for viewing/listening. tuned4life, the part of Central you must have been in is called "the war zone". It's better then it used to be, but not a good part of town for sure.
