I wouldn’t assume that myself seeing what La Scalla appear to be bringing lately..

A friend of mine had no problem selling his very nice early 90’s Walnut Klipschorns within a couple of weeks for $5800 about 2 months ago.

Yes, I do have the Loki Max and I can use it correct some equalization issues.  However, some recordings equalization can't correct like recordings with lots of compression, clipping, or missing so much in a frequency band that it's not correctable with eq.  It's these that I can't enjoy listen to on the Jubilee.

Yes it is very obvious that some recordings have been engineered/marketed to sound best when played over very compromised systems and environments like car audio systems over the past decades and those are a lost cause as far as any EQ correction. Recordings engineered/marketed with Tonal Balance issues I find can be improved and enjoyed with well designed Program EQ like the  McIntosh designs (especially the 8 band version).

I’m impressed with the Loki Max design features and especially the ability to adjust from the listener’s seat. From the Specs I wouldn’t expect any noise floor issues if implemented and used properly so I’m curious what your experience is in that regard especially considering the Jubilee sensitivity…?

To obtain the maximum benefits and enjoyment of using the McIntosh EQ Controls I have part of my system setup within easy reach from my listening position.

They are just amazing.  As I said previously, it's hard to describe them without it just sounding like a string of superlatives.  The only downside is that they are the most "ruthlessly revealing" speakers I've ever owned.  I really can't listen to a lot of bad recordings on this system.

@MMurg If my memory is correct didn’t you buy a Schiit Loki Max and if so have you tried it with the Jubilee setup when you have recordings with obvious tonal balance issues..?

Working on some AA crossovers today and I run across something I have not seen before. Where the two coil wires cross the Zener bracket they are literally melted onto the bracket. The Zeners and the bracket show no signs of severe heat though I have no idea what heat level would be required to melt this old insulation. So crossover guru's, what say you about this?

Since the Zener, Zener (RED)wires and Bracket show no sign of heat damage I suspect the Woofer Inductor (which I believe these melted wires belong to) of the AA was overheated by an amplifier output shorting out throwing DC rail voltage onto the Woofer/Inductor circuit. Do you know if the woofer was blown in the speaker at some point. I suppose another option was the speaker/network was used at sustained high level SPL/Power levels over time.  I would be concerned that the inductor could have damaged windings which could shift the crossover function off spec.

@RickFLYes , the rear labels  were longer    , but there is a 3 rd label inside the speaker ............the P.R.I.D.E label , which was signed by PWK

I don’t believe that is PWK’s initials on the P. R. I. D. E. Label since it is missing the W of PWK and is instead was just the person in the sanding department for this pair.

That is quite a tidy profit he is making. 1) sell them new, 2) buy them back used, 3) then resell them at near twice the original price.

They are a good speaker and I hope the next buyer enjoys them.

Good example of the Free Enterprise System at work wouldn’t you say…..?  🙂

Heck have you heard of these people using Klipschorns for 40 years or more and then selling them for twice what they paid for them…? 😄

Bottom line sellers and buyers are free to determine the worth of something and product quality and availability always also plays a part in these things.

The center is not going to be on all the time.  For most stereo content, I'll be listening in stereo.  However, for some dry recordings without ambient information, I like using upmixing like DTS:Neo Music or Dolby Surround Music.  Those mostly use the center as another ambience channel and leave the stereo mix pretty much intact.  Also, many of the multichannel classical and jazz SACDs that I have are 4.0 and won't engage the center.  So, I will experiment with a physical center for a while.  If I don't like it, then I'll pull it out and sell the Belle.

    Gotcha 👍🙂

I'm using the 13 ft wall.  If I use the 17 ft outside wall (on the right in the picture) I'll be blocking the window and part of that entrance way (which is the main entry into the room).  If I use the opposite 17 ft wall, then I'd have to back the seating up against the windows.  Not keen on doing either.  Today I was experimenting with the furniture in the room, placing the couch in the middle facing where the Jubilee will be.

Dang windows and doors…. Always screwing with our setups.. 😀

I thought about a K-402 in the center.  However, my room isn't that wide.  I also want to try to keep the center fairly low profile as I may put a TV in there one day on one of those above fireplace pull-down hangers.  This center is going in front of the fireplace that I never use (and really wish wasn't there).

I would be very tempted to try just going phantom center if possible.

  11. Michael I’m curious about your room/setup and I believe you said the room was about 13ft x 17ft and in a picture you posted of the rear of the room I believe it looks like that was a 13ft wall.  So for clarity are you going to place the Jubilees on the 13ft wall or can you also use the 17ft wall if necessary…?

I already own KLF-30 that will be used as surrounds unless I can really use something fully horn-loaded like the used La Scala AL5 I'm considering.

I just want to know if La Scala will work acoustically as surrounds in the back corners at a distance of a 5.5 to 6 feet from the main listening position.  Thanks.

Michael I have listened to my La Scala AL5 in a relative near field setup (approximately 7ft to 8ft and didn’t feel like I was to close in that setup.

You might also remember during this Chief Bonehead class we were close to all the loudspeakers in the comparison and the La Scala AL5 was as acoustically coherent as the other models at the same distances in my opinion anyway.

  13. Congratulations Michael and please post lots of pictures for us…👍😀

The Heritage Jubilee has been a long time coming and I’m so excited for PWK and Roy and the fortunate ones who will own them that this has come to pass and with such amazing advancements in sound reproduction technology resulting in a truly astounding reference standard in sound reproduction IMHO….!!!!

I hope Michael receives as much pleasure and enjoyed the journey with his Heritage Jubilee as I have since I received my Underground Jubilee on August-8-2006 and the journey they have taken me on since then. 🙂

Some McIntosh owners are getting butt hurt about @Rolox comments. Maybe I'm wrong, and I don't want to put words in his mouth. But I don't think he meant ALL Mac owners.

Exactly. I do not MEAN to be a jerk or to diminish anybody. But it is a fact, critical listening is a skill and is something one learns and practices. That being said, just enjoying one's system as it is and just enjoying the tunes without caring is absolutely fine, as long as you don't make fun of those who need to go further. We all have different expectations / needs / etc. Keeping an open mind is mandatory.

Its not about being “butt hurt” @Shakeydeal it’s about “Keeping an open mind is mandatory” statement yet he looked at McIntosh owners in somewhat the same way as others look at those who believe in cable differences and this goes on all the time in all aspects of our Audio Reproduction Hobby. It’s easy to recognize closed and assuming minds when its directed toward your beliefs/experiences in some way yet so easy to not recognize when we are doing it towards another person’s beliefs/experiences.

Oh and McIntosh... typical "status symbol, pride of ownership, made in the USA" brand. Not saying it's bad stuff, but when someone has a lot of money and wants a crazy "sound system" to impress guests, that's one of the recurrent brands. Very expensive and very easy to recognize even by non-audiophile people. Just like Rolex is the go-to luxury watch brand for status symbol.

Dam what a fool I’ve been …… !!!  thinking I bought my McIntosh C50 because it has important features and great build quality and that I believe it provided great sound reproduction and to find out instead that “although it isn’t bad” it was about “status symbol” and to “impress guest”.

LOL, he lent me some interconnects once that had arrows on them, to tell you the direction of current flow. Just to mess with him, I told him I had the arrows going towards the pre amp, LOL
He told me that I "ruined his interconnects", until I told him I was just messing with him!

Funny people get this wrong all the time…. The reason some cables will have a direction indicator is to let you know which end of the cable has the shield connected to signal ground so you know to use that end on the low impedance output source when driving the next components input for best external noise rejection.
