  1. For me, it all started that fateful day....... I went to Best Buy to get computer speakers. The salesman was trying to push me into some bose...... I test them and they sound so TINY....... I then test the Altec Lansings..... 2.1s..... Better; but then I see the Promedias....... There were only 2 boxes left....... I test.... and was impressed..... They sounded so BIG........ The salesman still wanted to convince me on the blowse....... ("The Klipsch sound too bassy, if that is what you want, but I do not reccomend....") Shortly after buying and using these.... I was amazed..... Such clear accurate sound for such little $....... Then, I found The Forum..... Never heard of Klipsch...... till that day..... Now I see how lucky I am..... Began reading..... and 5 years later..... got my first pair of used Heresies. I love my PM2.1s...... But I love my 2 channel and HT even more......
  2. I think she is gonna have to live with the Heresies and the sub...... I love the way they sound, and if these KSPs do not have the same "Heritage" sound, for me that is a deal breaker...... Thanks for the info!
  3. Also, since you only have 4 speakers; there should be a setting somewhere to "create false center, or blend center" The receiver instructions should provide you with this setting. You could probably get a 5th speaker on ebay cheap...... And double check your wiring before turning on! good Luck.
  4. A. If you are planning to use the receiver to power the speakers; and use the amp on the sub only for the sub, I do not believe this will damage it/ wear it out any quicker than it normally would...... Perhaps someone else will chime in to confirm this. B. All speakers set to small, Use the mic (or a ruler) to calibrate your listening distance from each speaker. If you are going to use the equalizer, I would probably turn the bass down a few db. (to the small speakers). This can be done after you hook them up, just do not turn up the volume much before setting these..... C. I have used the RCA adapter, and it did work. You may have to manually play with sub position (which way to face the port as well as where in the room to place it) as you have no phase setting... Also sub distance in the receiver menu, you may have to cheat..... You want to get the sub to hit in time with the music, not early or late. Also, there will be a setting to increase or decrease gain (in the receiver) as well as possibly a crossover point. I reccomend setting it at 80hz, to start. Remember to do this from the position you will be listening to. Experimentation will be the key, but this should work. After you get it set up and working, pay attention for distortion as your new receiver may provide more maximum power than the speakers were designed for. (Running them that way; distorting, for any length of time would be very bad). Good Luck.
  5. OMG.... Rollin on the floor!!!!!! I will say I am impressed that it worked...... Glad you accomplished your goal..... Looking forward to more pics of progress..... [Y]
  6. So...... The future Wifey saw them (KSPs) and said" Oh.... I like those so much better (than the Heresies)..." So.... my question is..... How do these compare sound wise? Would it be a good trade off? Since I know what my Heresies and (former)KG 2.5s sound like; can someone compare the KSPs to maybe KG 2.5s or Heresies? Thanks for any reviews/ opinions......[Y]
  7. No. they really (most) do not. I feel fortunate that my Fiancee at least "gets it". She does love the way everything sounds..... But I get the same "stop messing with it, and let's just watch"...... meh.
  8. I was using an RCA adapter to connect my sound card to my amp. I had a hum/buzz with this config. Since I switched to a digital (optical) connection, this is completely gone...... No sure if your sound card fits in the mix somehow, but if so....... check this. Good luck.
  9. Yep, sounds like you did..... Those speakers you have are no slouches! Patience Danielson..... []
  10. You could try sealing your Heresies with weatherstripping (remove back covers, apply thin stips of weatherstripping, tighten all drivers and horns, then replace.). Any leakage will reduce bass..... Also, placement makes a big difference....... This improved my bass alot; I have a sub but do not need it for 2 channel...... Good Luck.
  11. I can tell you that going used can be the best bang for buck..... I have seen used quintet III systems for under $200, in great condition. See my siggy..... My Heresies cost me $250 used. New they were at least triple that (30 years old) My SS3s were $120. (New they were between $500-$700). My KV3 wound up being free, (Long story).... New was around $250-$350~. My receiver cost me $140, new 3 years ago it was $750-$950....... Hope you will consider it....... Good Luck!
  12. Yes, the Heresy is probably the closet you can come in such a small size. (Heresy IIIs sound even better than Heresy IIs or Is.) Also, (discontinued; Used).... KLF20s or 30s and Forte IIs are all nice choices. Not sure if Cornwalls are much smaller than LS, but are considered to be (almost) on par with LaScalas...... (Some like them better).... No flames please! [] Good Luck!
  13. Are you open to buying used? You could probably save a few hundred bucks....... Also, be patient. I bet the price drops again.... somewhere. Based on the info provided stating the Quintets are bigger; beefier and have binding posts..... that would be my choice..... Good luck.
  14. Have you considered used Heritage? Some used Heresies go for as little as $200...... Definitely can keep up with your 5.5s. (unless you need thunderous bass). Good Luck....
  15. I do not think that is a good idea unless you plan on keeping the volume LOW. Those speakers are not meant to handle lots of bass....... Good Luck.
  16. Yeah, unless I could convince my Fiancee; it's not happening..... No room in current apartment anyway...... (One can dream though! [] ) Good Luck.
  17. You would have to define inexpensive..... I got my KSW10 for $80. (I got lucky, it goes for $140 and up used on ebay). This sub keeps up with my Heresies just fine...... Good Luck.
  18. Welcome to the forum! First, I am envious.... I would love a set of CWs. The cap upgrade is definitely worth it, and Bob Crites is known for high quality and excellent customer service. My speakers sound much smoother since I did the caps. It will not depreciate the value. (You could save the old caps in case)..... As for an amp, lets let someone else chime in.... Good Luck.....
  19. Yep. My GF hated my KG 2.5s on the stands. My H1s although taking up about the same footprint, seem to take up much less space because they are only 21" tall; vs. 36" or more...... And I guarantee they will sound so good......... Good luck!
  20. Wow... I do not have experience with either. I have heard good things about the HD500 though. I am sure someone will chime in shortly. Good luck.
