  1. However, to contradict myself, for five dollars I can stream the album release of Rare Essence, one of the founding bands of DC's Go-Go music and support them. 40 years on as a band. That's cool. Hell, put me down for $10. I'm going to email Suzanne Vega and ask her to support them.
  2. $24 bucks to watch a video, live or no, that's pretty pricey. For that I can buy her new album and listen more than once.

    Toots. So sad.

Passed today, probably from the bug. Toots, Jimmie and Bob, the three triads of Reggae. He had just released a new album last month. His shows were so much fun. He'd always invite the ladies on stage at the end of his show, including my ex one time. He gave her a bottle of water she kept for over a decade. Reggae was so much more than a beat, it inspired, it sent a message, and it expressed so much love.

    Lest we forget

Terrible day. Saw the 2nd tower get hit, watched both of them collapse. Helped out for awhile at the Brooklyn Red Cross. Got back to DC only to find out one of my neighbors was on the plane that crashed into the Pentagon. Went back to New York two weeks later and ended up attending several prayer meetings and funerals for the fallen.
  5. Ah, a dingus! I love those cats. Do they have the word "Stray" in front of their name?😊
  6. Wine? Check. Music? Check. Killer , awesome sound system and vinyl? Double check. Friday Night? Check. More wine? Check. Will be live streaming (as I understand it) shortly? Check. OK. I'm pretty sure I've looked at all the pertinent boxes. Oh, you're right. There's one that fell under my desk. It say's "Funk". Better check that one out.
  7. I've heard this a lot since the pandemical hit. (Pandemical: an original word created by your own Thebes, trademarked of course) I could be wrong, it could be a descriptor of someone who talks too much, "motor mouth" seemingly retired along with the age of the automobile. I have to presume it has something to do with beer and having too much of it? But then tonight my local awesome music hall (The Birchmere) sends me an email that says: Suzanne Vega, An Evening of New York Songs and Stories, Wed., Oct. 7, 9PM ET Now I've been a big fan of Ms. Vega since forever, and I'm pretty sure her music has nothing to do with peeing. So maybe it alludes to her last name and has something to do with vegetables? I'm confused. Again. Please help.
  8. The best double entendre of my life and no one noticed. Sigh. How about this one. It's got a catchy beat and simple lyrics: Tom's Diner Suzanne Vega Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doodoo, doo Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, duhdoodoo Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doodoo, doo Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, duhdoodoo Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doodoo, doo Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, duhdoodoo Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doodoo, doo Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, duhdoodoo Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doodoo, doo Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, duhdoodoo Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doodoo, doo Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, duhdoodoo Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doodoo, doo Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, duhdoodoo I am sitting in the morning At the diner on the corner I am waiting at the counter For the man to pour the coffee And he fills it only halfway And before I even argue He is looking out the window At somebody coming in Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doodoo, doo Doo, doo, doo,

  9. Not ta worry, man. I getsa a consensus, and den I tell ya what your going to like. Any objections, I drop you in da river. We can all get behind this one:
  10. If you are going to use that expression, please drop the "g" in stinking. Sounds much better. Think about it. What would Notre Dame be without their fight song. The "Rocky" movies without the theme song. Root Boy Slim without "Root! Root!, Root!!" Remember how audio phools cup their hands around their mouths when you tell them you like horns? Idjuts! Maybe this should be our theme song:
  11. We really should have one by now. My submission: Grandpa Rocks Willie Nile Two - three - four Aye, aye He wears black jeans and a class t-shirt His combat boots are covered with dirt When he plays guitar his amp's up loud He ain't dead yet, he still draw a crowd Grandpa rocks, grandpa rocks His hair, what's left grows down to his socks Grandpa rocks, grandpa rocks He listens to the stones by the waterfront docks Aye He likes cold beers and good red wine Single malt whisky, it'll do just fine His old turntable's full of scratched 45's He ain't afraid of dying he just likes to be alive, yeah Grandpa rocks, grandpa rocks He ain't quite ready for the pine top box Grandpa rocks, grandpa rocks He loves him a woman who's an old grey fox Aye He's got a 57 Chevy And a Bill named Gray Money in his pocket, he's a bathtub gin He likes to play the

  12. Looks like mostly old television tubes with not much application for audio. Still, there could be a find or two in there.

A separate thread is in order based on Arto's silliness, even though I like and respect you. Arto. You know it won't be personal. I'll put it up sometime over the weekend. But to respond to the original post, you have many options. First, Ebay and Discogs for used. Next, Acoustic Sounds for brand new. (there's another major site like this but I can't remember the name right now.) Then there's the labels themselves. Every minor and major label still in existence has a website, and if you like a particular artist don't forget the artist's website. Even if they no longer tour, you'd be surprised at how many still peddle their albums online. finally, hit the local music shops and don't forget the basic. Yard sale, estate sales, and your local donation center (Salvation Army etc.) Then try your local Craigslist, Nextdoor Neighbor, library book sales and friends. It's a hunt. Sorta like when you started dating. Everything's in play and the hunt itself is loads of fun. (well not quite as much as chasing sex, but a lot of the musicians on those cd's write and sing songs about sex)
  14. Larry has , among others , listened to Ortofon OM 30 and 40's on my older rig. The Ortofon's are very transparent, without being harsh, very musical, very accurate and a replaceable tip. I, like Larry, have gone down the LOMC path, with most satisfying results, but on a limited budget, a quality current MM with replaceable tip is hard to beat.
  15. Tubes and Khorns are made for each other. Do some tube rolling with the signal tubes after you've had some time with it. And kick that DAC to the curb and get a turntable. Vinyl rules!
  16. From a post out of Quora Digest. Quite frankly a well tuned Klipsch setup can easily kick Krakatoa to the curb. 194 dB is the maximum undistorted sound pressure level that can be transmitted through sea-level atmosphere on Earth. Anything more than that, the sound wave will be “clipped” at the bottom, since vacuum-like absolute pressure would be reached (0 Pa). Much larger levels are however achievable, even on Earth. For example: The Tunguska meteoric event of 1908 is calculated to have reached 300 dB. This massive explosion flattened 80 million trees over an area of 2000 square kilometres. The eruption of the Krakatoa volcano probably reached 230 dB on 27 August 1883. This was so powerful that the sound wave circled the globe four times. The crack was distinctively heard from over 5000 km away, more or less like from New York to Los Angeles. The launch of a Saturn V rocket can reach 220 dB. The infamous Tzar Bomba reached probably 224 dB (releasing one fourth of the Krakatoa explosion), and accounts for the largest human-made noise. Some sources report that this event created a 280 dB level, but I don’t think it can be a correct value. All dB values in the present article are expressed as “unweighted” or “total”, whereas the human hearing perceives less in the low- and high-frequency domain. This is critically also the part of the spectrum where extreme events tend to concentrate most part of their energy. Unweighted levels are usually suffixed with a “Z” (like zero-weighting) thus presented as dB(Z). Levels in environmental/safety measurements are presented as dB(A), because reflect more closely the characteristics of human hearing.

  18. A tracking number will not speed things up. Bought a album off of ebay, mailed on July 4th with tracking number,., showed up on August 10th! It's the new normal so get used to it. The new PMG, while trying to save money, is seriously gutting the delivery system.
  19. Sorry. Can't never resist any opportunity to not so subtly brag about the score of the century. Look, anything you buy from back in the day comes with additional costs, because after 25 years or so the caps dry out and the sound dries out with it. It becomes flat and muted. Really the best way to approach this whole subject is to start out with a price point and your musical tastes. We can then tailor our responses to your specific needs whilst working on separating you from your significant other, who will eventually join us for a glass of wine (mouth sanitizer) and listen to a tune or two.
  20. Silly people. I have owned Cornwall originals with the only change a recap with russian PIO's. There is only one Marantz unit that suits them well, and that's a Marantz 8b. Mine only cost $50 so it's a bargain play producing quality sound.
  21. What's the piano for? Are the horns supposed to tickle it's keys.
  22. I guess we could say the same about the 25 cent fuses. Isn't that the purpose of a fuse. Of course, having over-designed them. The fuses may be too busy clarifying the sound to serve their primary purpose. Hey! That could be a quote about my ex-wife! So I'm thinking of buying the $9 audiophile fuses available on ebay. Problem is, will I be buying a cheap knock-off or the exact same fuse under a different name and packaging as the $400 fuses. I've decided is what this Forum needs is a deep pocketed philanthropist who could provide us with the wherewithal to buy all this stuff, actually open it up to see what's actually inside and go from there. Any richies hanging around here? PM me, or paypal me if you please.
  23. Now ground loop prevention is an idea I hadn't considered but, I think it hardly applies in the case of fuses.
  24. Just google audiophile fuses. The reason I heard about this in the first place was from a Audiogon Forum post. Audiogon sends me a weekly summary of what that forum is up to for some reason. Here's the link: https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/sr-blue-fuses?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=website&utm_source=sendgrid
