  1. Try some Carlos Montoya. Between him and Segovia they basically invented Classical Guitar. The only one I have is not particularly well recorded so no specific recommendation, but I'm sure some of his work has been remastered.
  2. The latest issue of MaximumPC has given it's KickAss Award to the Klipsch ProMedia GMX A-2.1 computer speakers. It has also listed it as top choice in it's "Best of the Best" monthly listing of recommended computer gear displacing a Logitech 2.1 system. MaximumPC is widely read by computer gearheads and gamers. This mags initial enthusiasm for the Promedia series really sparked sales and brought tons of people into the Klispch family. I thought this would be of interest especially after the way Logitech has been beating up on Klipsch lately in this segment.
  3. a Klipsch T-Shirt! That's right folks, the ultimate fashion acessory. In basic black it's suitable for that extra cool evening look worn plain under a sport coat, or for a more casual look, simply by itself. What's that you say: "Thebes, tell us more, how do I win?" Well it's really very, very simple. All you have to do is stop by Entertainmnet/DVD's, Music etc. and share a music recommendation with your fellow members in our ongoing weekly thread "Members Weekly Music Recommendations" Each posted recommendation only (in other words not general chit-chat) is assigned a number, at the end of the month a number is drawn at random and a t-shirt awarded. So don't delay and come on down and share. Legal Disclaimer: T-Shirt does not come with beautiful blonde model featured in the Klipsch website shop. Thebes Enterprises will not be responsible for any pregnancies resulting from wearing this shirt in public, bars or sunday school.
  4. All right!! Last week was great with many new folks stopping buy. Not only do you get to share music you like with your fellow forum members you could possibly win a Klipsch T-Shirt. Scooterdog did! So what will you share this week? Remember name of individual, group, name of album, type of music (cd,lp etc.) and style (rock, jazz) as best you can. Comments are welcome. My suggestion for this week is: Miss Peggy Lee "Sings the Blues", cd, blues/jazz. Hard to find but if you do you will hear her at her best without the show tunes I'm not a really big fan of. Songs include See See Rrider, Kansas City, Beale Street and Basin City Blues. Very well recorded.

    hehe

I shouldn't play but I can't resist. Junior Bush: soundtrack from Dr. Strangelove John Kerry: Camelot
  6. Sorry Marvin, I misunderstood. Your right though, there has not been much if any modern popular mujsic written about the Civil War. That's a head scratche.r I'll have to think about it. Anybody?
  7. Well Clu you're the best thing about General and Less is pretty good too. Aside from that I like the mix because it builds a sense of community. Can't talk about gear all of the time. Blatant political, I'm not so sure about because most of the political threads lately have been about trolling rather then discourse. I don't rule them about but think they should be crafted very carefully and not in the heat of the momment, or start a fight simply because you can. And of course no blatant commercialization like that nefarious fellow whose offering chances at a free Klipsch t-shirt down in Entertainment/DVD/Music simply for letting us know about some music you like. This person must be stopped. Tell me more you say....
  8. Well that was quick. Hit an estate sale this weekend. The departed had mostly classical but look I picked up: Coltrane "A Love Supreme" 2 cd SACD by Impulse Coltrane "Legacy" a four cd set by Verve Miles Davis and John Coltrane The Complete Columbia Recordings 1955-1959 6 cd set put out by Sony And for you lovers of frugality cost ws $24 My jazz collection has now just about doubled.
  9. I wanna be the Mountie! Please, please oh please cna I be the Mountie?
  10. You now your right Marvel, as far as I know there has not been a good song for, against or about this war. I wonder if the troops over there have a favorite or two.
  11. Gosh darn it Ray you did it again! Too much coffee this morning? You got to take those earphnes off and buy some damn speakers, then maybe we can throgh at least a whole stanza of a song before you step in. As a famous fictional charachter was known to say: Damn your eyes! Now who could that have been....
  12. Welcome. You'll like it here. Althought I don't have this particular model it's usually fairly straightforward. I looked over the picture and you may try a gentle tug or twist of the wires at the back to see if the bulb holder pulls out. Barring that you may have to gently loosen the metal tabs on each side of the lamp holder and see if it drops out from the botton. These bulbs are usually held in place by two little prongs at their base. Replacement bulbs are available at Radio Shack but make sure you bring the bub with you so you get the right one. Most of these are 6.3 volt bulbs, probably .250mamps. You may want to remove the tabs anyway and run the wires between the string for the tuner to keep friction from wearing it out. The duct tape is not a good solution. There are lots of people here with old H&K's so some of them might check in over the weekend and they might have mroe speicific directions.
  13. Gary you and Alan must be twins! You're both listening to Jimmy Smith! Right now I'm listening to "Slip Away" as done by the Committments on my all soul Friday night. What are the rest of you listening to?
  14. Forget the money which just sucks completly. But the trees! That would break my heart. Very sorry to hear this Dale. Any trees still standing?
  15. Bummer. The Twins are out of town at a Doublemint Convention this weekend. They said they'd bring back some friends though, for a PARTEEEEY! next weekend. Until then, let's try this one again. Everybody had fun the last time. It's simple. What's on the player right this second! (Sorry no free Klipsch T-Shirt with this one. What's that you say, a free t-shirt! Tell us more...) Right now I'm listening to "Three Tiems a Lady from the Commodores "Ultimate Collection" What are you listening to?
  16. We had a little fun last Friday doing America Pie. It's a little slow again this Friday because folks are out enjoying the fine weather and doing the normal weekend things. So let's try this again with a shorter but great song from The Band. Use your memory and no peeking at some web site. Actual lyrics will be posted when the song is done so you can see how you did. Remember just a line of the actual song and then pass it along: Virgil Cain is the name and I worked on the Danville train.....
  17. Welcome. You may generate more interest if you post a price, age, type of finish and where they are located.
  18. Hard to tell at this point if this was draconian or appropriate. I quess well find out more as the story unfolds. Me, I got no sympathy for people who rebrand prouducts and sell them under the American flag. Remember how WalMart built their business by slappping an American flag on everything until somebody pointed out most of it was made overseas?
  19. I wasn't around when this thread got started so I'm glad to see it. Thanks to the jazz affaciandos here I am now the proud owner of Pete Kelly's Blues and just picked up Peter Gunn a 24 bit remaster from RCA Victor. Also have acquired Eastern Standard Time's "Second Hand". Looks like I have some Coltrane in my future.
  20. SWEEEEEEEEET!!!!! With that small a room do you have to wear earplugs to get the amp knob past 2?
  21. Ok, after you guys quit talking in Sanskrit, will you translate all this stuff into something morons like me can understand? In other words, does it rock, and roll or are you using it for weight lifting instead of barbells. Will it shatter windows and make angels cry? Inquiring minds want to know. Seriously, congrats Craig. We've got the pics now we need to know if it will make the Twins dance and get off my back for a change.
  22. Great suggestins this week guys, as usual. I would second Nightwish, I have Wishmaster by them. Really cool in your face music. I also second Wheelman's Gov't Mule, great rock. Both of these cd's were purchased following suggestions from forum members. Also picked up 7 new (for me) cd's this weekend basedon yourrecommendatioins. I'll have a review for you after I have listened for a while, but so far I'm not disappointed. Keep a few bucks on hand guys, because this is the place to pick up on some serious music. Anybody else?
  23. Ok Tom, glad to your initial experience with the glasses were satsifactory. Now it's time to tweak. First, never use dish soap with beer glasses, it will ruin the head. Second, you need better inputs. I would recommend the original Check Budweiser or Pilsner Urguiel(sp). The Checks invented Pilsner after all. You could also A/B them with a good German Weiss (wheat) Bier. Then you'll probably want to go the upgrade route. You'll neeed a new sound-dampening rack for the glasses, a high-end freezer for icing stabilization and probably a set of thick cork coasters. At this point you will be more than likely to be almost but not completly satisfied, so you'll probably play around with B&K. JBL and Altec pilsner glasses for awhile before coming back to Klipsch. By then you will have broken one of the glasses and have to call Klipsch Technical Support. Then there's teh whole issues of tubes with these babies and how to run them using a SET amp. Call us when you run out of money and we'll shake our heads knowingly and sympathize.
  24. The Denon 3801 is DTS compliant. I would suspect that you should take your time, with manual in hand, to go through the entire initial setup process, making sure you have all you speakers set correctly, and make all inputs are set correctly (i.e. digital, analog, coaxiel etc.) depending on what your using to connect up your player. Also, simplist yet, but it's caught me more than once. Sometimes while fooling around with front of the receiver I accidentally have hit the B button for a secondary speaker setup. Make sure A only is selected. If it's on A and B you may be only getting sound through the B channel. Also make sure you aren't running it on Exterior In.
