  2. Congrates on the CW's... Envy ensues...
  3. I take it then they have a different texture to the sound delivery when compared to a Heritage speaker?
  4. are the klf 30's good for music when compared to say the cornwall or heresey? I see from the specs they have a great range and the peak and max wattage appears to be really high. Or prehaps these are better suited for audio visual treatments. thanks
  5. I grew up in southen california and know exactly where this is... tunnels and newcombs ranch. it doesnt surprise me that its the perfect place to get echos.. there are actually two tunnels inline with each other that are seperated by about 30 yards and they over look a canyon that goes all the way down to the san gabriel valley... love that horn by the way
  6. i can perfectly visualize what you are describing... thank you for taking the time to help me understand something that maybe fundimental to others.
  7. i love the almighty Shroom to... i wish I knew how to pick them.
  8. klipsch Versus Altec Lansing... I have become increasing aware of some really nice looking vintage Altec Lansing speakers that are horn loaded. For those with much mor eknowledge than I, what are the sound differences? Are the Vintage altecs as desirable as the klipsch seems to be?

  12. I just got a couple LP's.. Mick Karn and Peter Murphy in Dalis Car And Sara Lee and Robert Fripp in League of Gentleman
  13. my bad... that is true 48hz. I found that if I try and use the higher sample rates of 176hz(2 channel mode) I get a lot of noise for some reason(yes HDMI). Frankly, I couldn't be more happy with a seperate playback (onkyo sp5006) unit that also plays some of the more advanced formats.
  14. You may be slightly dissapointed in PS3 audio despite it being able to process uncompressed audio on bluray disk. The highest sample rate that I have seen for PS3 as far as audio is only 44hz, thats why I went with a stand alone unit. All this even though I can play back sacd and dvda. I think if all you are concerned with is playing back teh compact disc fromat any bluray playe is as good as another... if you want advance AUDIO format support or sound processing, you may run into a short fall in when it comes to audio playback on the cheap bluray players.
  15. Well it's even slightly more complicated than that... because of the issue known as down sampling, you don't want a link/component in your system that samples at a lower rate and with lower resolution (bitdepth) than the highest sample rate and deepest bitdepth component. In short... if you have agreat sound processor/DAC that samples at 24 bit depth and at 192hz it does you no good that your playback machine plays at 16 bits and at 44hz and vice versa. That's why I choose to run the upscaling dvd player(onkyo sp506) instead of my PS3 for audio playback, all indications I can find about the PS3 is that audio playback is 44hz for CD... this despite having the ability to process advanced audio from the bluray fromat to the point of 1/1 resoultion or UNCOMPRESSED audio for movies. Keep in mind that all this is dependent on your source material to. CD's are a very compressed format, sacd/hdcd/dvda are less so. ---------------- you now I just realized that this was the server thread... my answer doesn't really apply
  16. The reason I asked is because most bluray systems that are affordable lack some playback scenarios... this onkyo sp506 unit is an 1080 upscaling dvd player and has Substantially higher capabilities than your denon. Plays DVD Video, Super Audio CD, DVD Audio, Audio CD, CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL*1 HDMI Digital Interface (Version 1.2a) 5.1-Channel PCM Audio Output and Direct Stream Digital (DSD) via HDMI Simultaneous Output from All Video Connections Three Burr-Brown (PC1796) 192 kHz/24-Bit Audio DACs I bought this for $150 (list is over $300) and I only use it as a compressed format(eg CD, SACD, DVDA, HDCD etc) audio player and have my ps3 for my Bluray playback. are you bent on finding an all in one unit?
  17. Does it have to be BluRay or can it be DVD? I have seen many up scaling DVD players that also play SACD and DVDA in the sub $200 niche.

  19. BANGKOK – Actor David Carradine, star of the 1970s TV series "Kung Fu" who also had a wide-ranging career in the movies, has been found dead in the Thai capital, Bangkok. A news report said he was found hanged in his hotel room and was believed to have committed suicide. A spokesman for the U.S. Embassy, Michael Turner, confirmed the death of the 72-year-old actor. He said the embassy was informed by Thai authorities that Carradine died either late Wednesday or early Thursday, but he could not provide further details out of consideration for his family. The Web site of the Thai newspaper The Nation cited unidentified police sources as saying Carradine was found Thursday hanged in his luxury hotel room. It said Carradine was in Bangkok to shoot a movie and had been staying at the hotel since Tuesday. The newspaper said Carradine could not be contacted after he failed to appear for a meal with the rest of the film crew on Wednesday, and that his body was found by a hotel maid at 10 a.m. Thursday morning. The name of the movie was not immediately available. It said a preliminary police investigation found that he had hanged himself with a cord used with the room's curtains. It cited police as saying he had been dead at least 12 hours and there was no sign that he had been assaulted. A police officer at Bangkok's Lumpini precinct station would not confirm the identity of the dead man to The Associated Press, but said the luxury Swissotel Nai Lert Park hotel had reported that a male guest killed himself there. Carradine was a leading member of a venerable Hollywood acting family that included his father, character actor John Carradine, and brother Keith. In all, he appeared in more than 100 feature films with such directors as Martin Scorsese, Ingmar Bergman and Hal Ashby. But he was best known for his role as Kwai Chang Caine, a Shaolin priest traveling the 1800s American frontier West in the TV series "Kung Fu," which aired in 1972-75. He reprised the role in a mid-1980s TV movie and played Caine's grandson in the 1990s syndicated series "Kung Fu: The Legend Continues." He returned to the top in recent years as the title character in Quentin Tarantino's two-part saga "Kill Bill." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bum deal...
  20. Very valid points... Perception can be reality if one has nothing to compare it. Below is the PS3 break down on major capabilities. As stated, some say they can not play sacds... I can as well as dvda and hdad hdcd etc etc. I am sure that the dacs must be different in these ps3 unit generations. As I had mentioned above, I am not willing to accept ps3 as gospel given the fact that there is little conrete audio specifications on the different generational units... so buying a better end 24/192 player is in my immediate future and only then will I be able to A/B the two
  21. Funny... Mine is great, and has the ability to deliver uncpressed MULTICHANNEL audio over an HDMI connection. certainly all PS3's are NOT the same, there are several generations and capabilities that are not shared
  22. Indeed... my 806 does to, but if your pinching off quality at the playback machine, then that resolution will be wasted correct? I have never seen in depth technical data on ps3's audio capabilities... even though mine falls into that catagory where it CAN play sacd and dvda when many of the ps3's can not, that's why I wanted to try some other playback machines that were not to cost prohibative
  23. Well, what that info tells you is, how much resolution something has, whether source material... playback, or in recording/copying(essentially the higher the numbers the more the resolution). Bit depth is the number of steps a piece of software can break down a sample into per sampling cycle... Sample rate is a messure of how often that software takes a sample I copy all my ps3 stuff at 172hz even though the original CD's are made at 44hz. I know people say its overkill and eats memory space but I don't care. And if I copy something that is pressed at 24/192 I am falling short of 1 to 1 resolution. That's why I don't really trust the PS3 for full playback quality even though it can handle uncompressed audio... I have yet to find any FULL info on its audio capabilities. like I was saying earlier I can get a Onkyo unit(sp506) that has three burr brown DAC's and full 48/192 playback for 200... that s fair deal. use a HDMI or TOS for connection and be done with it for the interim I borrowed this from an online source.. it illustrates exactly the difference between a analog signal and a digital signal Analog... is like a single vector, smooth and curved Digital is made up of points... like a bitmapped/pixel image. The more pixels/plots you have, the better the ending reproduction.
  24. The player should do the converting... one reason I am getting a dedicated sacd/dvda/cd player is for the DA converter as I am not sure which is being used on my ps3... sure sound is nice, but I think/I know there is better. I am going to try a Onkyo DV-sp506 which samples at 24/192 and uses burr brown converting, unit is about $200
  25. man those are beautiful... I love cane
