  1. As an example: What do most people think of when someone talks about a dairy farm? Cows grazing in the pasture. A peaceful, serene pastoral stetting. I took my wife with me on a business trip to New Mexico recently. We got off of I-40 so I could show her the panhandle and eastern NM. I pointed out a dairy CAFO and explained that this is the norm. Cows with a very small place to move around in. No grass, just mud and manure. I also pointed out feedlots where cattle are feed HFCS and filler for close to six weeks to add fat. The feed mixture will kill a cow if left on that diet for more than six weeks. It literally burns up the stomachs of cows. I wish I had room to raise a steer every year. I have quit hunting, but I may have to return to it just to get non-CAFO meat.
  2. I used to build Allied/ Knight walkie Talkie kits. Miss Allied, also. It was always exciting to get the Heathkit and Allied catalogs.
  3. I have a Heathkit receiver somewhere in my stash. Need to bring it out and give it a once over!
  4. Warm here, too. AC is running right now. Got to finish demolition of the main bath. Total remodel. Have to straighten out the electrical will the walls are partially open. Amazing how some people wire a house. Electricians do not seem to understand the code. Oh well, set here and catch up on the news, eat breakfast (my usual plain oatmeal mixed with yogurt with dry toast), then back to the bathroom to clean up the mess from late last night.
  5. I have 9842D's, a single 14, and a couple of 8's left in my stash. Enough for a surround system with Mantaray horns.
  6. Question: The Elvanol should be dissolved in a glass-only double boiler? Typing this from memory, so I could be wrong.
  7. But, I am hoping to pick up a couple more Honda 305 Dreams today....
  8. I am glad I spent my throwing around cash on a new bathroom and master remodel! Interesting that this is not posted on the OKC CL site.
  9. Oh, it the amp will be restored. I wish someone would take the whole thing and put it back into it's original glory. I know most don't have the room for these monsters, and I have found I can only keep the one currently in the living room (still don't know where I am going to display it). I am going to keep my Stromberg-Carlson for myself since it has beautiful separate tuner and amp faceplates and chassis. I hate to gut it, but again, no room. I already have a storage building full of vintage gear + more in my garage. Even though I have a pair of each Heritage line, I can't keep all of those. THAT is the hardest decision of all on which to keep!!!

  11. There is a lot of academic material I would like to peruse on Jstor and Elsevier, but it is usually about $33 per paper. Both of these services hamper scientific inquiry instead of promoting it.
  12. I just had my picture snapped while meeting a police cruiser parked on the side of the road by the Alma Police Dept.using a similar device. This really pisses me off. Police are not only capturing your license plate, by now your face for entry into the national database. This cop was stopped doing speed control duty. What business of it is his that he can capture my face without a warrant or any other reason without probable cause? The new weigh station on I-40 in Oklahoma just across the Arkansas line has about 15 cameras designed for the same purpose. Anyone passing by gets the inside of their vehicle captured. And folks are OK with this??? http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2011/07/13/how-a-new-police-tool-for-face-recognition-works/
  13. Piss off the wrong people and see why you need to fear the government. (I kept trying to figure out how to word this, but that is all I am willing to say.) Right doesn't win many arguments, but power always wins.
  14. The government chose this case since it was terrorists, and the public can't sympathize with terrorists. This whole case is troubling to me since the first day of the San Bernadino attack, all witnesses reported three white athletic built men in military black uniforms carried out the attack. Not a conspiracy theorist, just a realist. Even though eye witness accounts are the least trustworthy in any investigation, something just doesn't feel right about this whole mess. It is too late to change this country becoming a police state to rival any in history. The majority believe in giving up rights for security. I have sons working in the cutting edge of tech, and neither believe there is any way that privacy exists, or has existed for the last couple of decades.
  15. There have been so many covers of this song. It was in a play "Return to the Forbidden Planet", but I don't think it was ever made into a film.
  16. When I took microtechnique (course on using a microtome for tissue slide preparations), I did my project on chick hearts. I could remove a heart fast enough that it was still beating when removed from the breast of a chick. Wait, "breast of a chick", now I am thinking about another topic...

  19. Not the whole thing. I have too many for that. I have a Stromberg-Carlson with separate tuner and power faces that I am going to pull and keep. I also have a Motorola lowboy that I wish I could keep whole, but it is just too long (7 feet). It has one of the largest SS amps I have seen. A real monster. It is also one of the best sounding consoles I have heard. I have a Grundig Majestic that I have already gutted due to the cabinet being a little rough, but those parts will probably be sold to someone that restores those pieces. I do have a Grundig SO120 that is in my living room that will never be gutted. It is just too beautiful and pristine.
  20. Whatever happened to the principle of a man's (or woman's) house is their castle and the power of the state doesn't reach into another person's castle? It was the basis of the Fourth Amendment. Of course, that amendment was disregarded and made impotent with the WoD. What someone chooses to do in their own home is none of my business.
  21. Seemed like a lot of those were from Russia. As is most of the crazy driving videos on youtube.
  22. Anybody know anything about this console? Worth saving?
