  1. You have to remember that the early 045 were an exact copy of the Heresy. Dealers in the late 70's that couldn't become a Klipsch dealer sold Beta Sound. I am going off 40 year-old memories of conversations with Bob Moers and PWK. I know they were in legal conversations with the two owners of Beta Sound over ripping off Klipsch.
  2. I tried digital TOTL hearing aides about four years ago. Only 6 bands of equalization. I never did get used to the sound. Too dang digital sounding to me. No one makes analog adjustable hearing aides anymore, so I took them back. They were $6500 for the pair. The one thing I did like was the bluetooth. Made talking on the cell phone much easier. I have constant tinnitus in each ear but at different frequencies.
  3. Beta Sound made almost a clone of the Heresy. Klipsch forced them to change the desing. Mine is the changed design. redpackman has the earlier version. Beta Sound also made the first Cornscala.
  4. Found the patent application for the pair I have. From what I can find out, the cabinet was changed when Klipsch threatened legal action against Beta Sound. http://pdfpiw.uspto.gov/.piw?PageNum=0&docid=D0253649&IDKey=B7DAA316EF42&HomeUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fpatft.uspto.gov%2Fnetacgi%2Fnph-Parser%3FSect2%3DPTO1%2526Sect2%3DHITOFF%2526p%3D1%2526u%3D%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-bool.html%2526r%3D1%2526f%3DG%2526l%3D50%2526d%3DPALL%2526S1%3DD253649.PN.%2526OS%3DPN%2FD253649%2526RS%3DPN%2FD253649
  5. Nobody has the CF-2 Series 1? I have two pair in need of a re-do. The values are NOT marked on the capacitors.
  6. Good luck getting any information from C-V. I had a pair from their "D" series (forget which one). IIRC, the speakers may have had the same woofer. I never did find any information after several months checking on them. I think one had a bad woofer. I ended up finding another used woofer with the same number. Been years ago. I still like the K-22 or K-24 in the Heresy. Currently, I am running EV 12LFA in a pair of K-201. I still prefer the original woofers.
  7. Fraziers for sell in Lexington! http://lexington.craigslist.org/msg/4667263973.html
  8. I have a few from the late 70's. I somehow lost my Hobbit one, though; and my Klipsch flag football team jersey. My avatar pic was taken in '80 and that is a medium T I have on. I weighed about 160 then.
  9. The proper way to repair an album cover is to fold HEAVY paper (1" on each side of the fold), use a good glue and glue the paper on the INSIDE of the cover. This way, the repair doesn't show on the outside. When album covers are first put together, The paper holding the cardboard sides is glued on the outside, THEN the paper on which all the artwork and information is glued on the sides. It is almost impossible to repair on the outside without destroying or covering the outside label paper. Hope that makes sense!
  10. I also had a brass belt buckle the PWK had given me in 1978 or 79.
  11. I like the wood signs. Bring back some of the vintage stuff I used to pick up at the factory. A different version of the "Bullshit" shirt and of the Hobbit one. My ex threw out both of my originals in the 80's or 90's. I can still get the coffee mugs from.... no, not going to mention it! I have a pocket knife, a full set of original coffee mugs, a couple of original bullshit tees. Heck, I think I still have the football jersey we wore for the Klipsch flag football team in Hope in the late 70's!
  12. Global Business Machines would have been at the State surplus auction in Little Rock. Documentation would have come from there. I wonder what these sold for at auction?! I quite looking at the list a long time ago, but know of many unbelievable deals at these auctions.
  13. A tack cloth works great for removing fine dust. I use one for stain and paint on surfaces.
  14. It would be a quick way to get equipment out of my hands! No time for second guessing. I would rather someone that wants vintage stuff to enjoy it then it just sitting on a shelf or in storage. I also need to go through my vinyl collection and narrow it down. I don't even know how many LP's, 78's, and 45's I have. Lots of 7 and 10" reels, also. I have two storage rooms now filled with equipment and media. Several Altec's, Klipsch, Sansui, Teac, Otari, Kenwood, etc. I want to minimize my audio footprint; limit it to just those systems I will actually use. I have thought about only trading gear so that I purposely limit extra gear (yet, I have my name on a pair of B&W 802 Diamond's...).
  15. I find that the CF-2 horn tends to overwhelm the woofers at anything more than soft listening. The one pair I have restored I damped the horn and the back of the motorboard, removed the acoustic foam panels and stuffed with sonofil. That helped quite a bit, but I have some Eminence L-Pads I have thought of installing to tame the horn. They are extremely efficient and would make great party speakers. I got the second pair in a batch deal that I made. I have very little in each pair. I have Klipschorns, La Scala, KP-201, and the CF-2. I have used the restored pair as loaners to folks I have restored speakers for. I had them in my rotation with my Belles and JBL 4333a's. They are currently in the bedroom. I am to the point in life where I am thinking of downsizing my collection. I may just put together a system (receiver, turntable, speakers, cassette or RtR) and jsut sell a package deal. Just haven't made up my mind yet.
  16. Currently I use a Y connector and a Sansui G-3000. One of the prettiest little receivers ever made. I have also used a Nakamichi Compact for amplification. What I use is dictated by space. HDMI could also get you where you want to be with a more modern DAC/amp. Vintage is going to be through the mini plug to RCA.
  17. I assume that these are raw birch that were veneered with oak but nothing more? If any end grain is showing (like the raw birch) then new veneer is the way to go. If they are veneered and ready for finish, then just clean with a solvent and stain. The more "elbow work" you put into a finish, the better you will like the results. Check out youtube for lots of ideas on finishing.
  18. I picked up another pair of Epic CF-2's last week. I haven't decided whether to keep them, part them out, or restore them. Both pair that I have are Series 1. The latest pair have pretty rough cabinets, so I will probably retest the woofers on both pair and keep the closest matched woofers in one pair. I would like to update the crossovers on the pair I restored a few years ago. I also have an extra pair of crossovers, but I have no idea on which series they came out of. Does anyone have the values for CF-2 Series 1? I also have wondered about the rubber feet on these speakers. Anyone try substitutes? I have solid floors so spikes are not an option. The CF-2 cabinets seem very solid and I doubt that resonance is as much a problem on the CF-2 as it is on the larger Epic models. Since the Epic series has removable motor boards, bracing may be a challenge. I have also thought of using one of the latest pair to build a center channel for HT use. How do you think they would match up for my Klipschorns or my La Scalas. Lots of questions, I know.
  19. How many ports? That can tell quickly if it is a Series 1.
  20. Any difference between channels when you notice the problem? I wouldn't think that BOTH speakers would have shorts, but you never know without testing them.
  21. One thought I had was to totally rebuild the crossovers by going to a point-to-point wiring on a separate board and get away from the PCB corssover layout.
  22. Just wanted to bump the thread. Any thoughts on a simple L-pad inserted in the circuit? As soon as I finish restoring a pair of AR 4x for a friend, I will start work on the CF-2's. you know how hard it is to match a woofer cone for the AR 4x? Luckily, Dave at Speakerworks had a cone from the 40's that will match it. The cloth surrounds aren't easy to work with, either!
  23. I have a Russco Studio Pro B turntable that i would like to trade for a QRK or any other TT that will play 78's. It doesn't have to be an idler, but a TT of equal value. I also have a Technics SP-25 that I would trade for a 78 TT. I ended up buying 2 of each from a local radio station. If needed i could throw in a MicroTrack tonearm to balance a trade. I am trying to get a dedicated 78 turntable. Currently, the only 78 capable turntable I have is a Dual 1010 that also plays 16 rpm. When is the last time you saw a 16 rpm record? I will post pictures later. I am in the middle of putting new veneer on a pair of AR 4x and thought I would post this in between gluing veneers.
  24. The Savers in Fort smith never has any electronics. I have scored some good vinyl there, though.
