  1. They're used for connecting to a receiver or amplifier's speaker outputs when there is no subwoofer output or L/R pre-outs available on the receiver/amp.
  2. Honestly, I've never even heard an RSW10, but I would think it could "hang" with the RF5s. You tell us. []
  3. You've gotta give him a couple of "sub-lengths". []
  4. Those are strictly the "THX-specific specifications".
  5. Don't forget his wonderful "gravelly", southern-tinged voice as the narrator in "The Right Stuff". [*]
  6. No problem with Mikekid or any of the older members.............That guy is brand new, atleast under that name.........He has no reason to use that term with me...never mind, your right,...............NO Big Deal............... Yeah, for a first-time poster, he was a smart-***, but I'm not so sure it wasn't warranted. []
  7. If you check the thread, it was MikeKid who first addressed you as "old man". Whether the OP has a right to also call you "old man" is not really arguable, if I understand the 1st Amendment correctly. Why you would name yourself "oldbuckster" and then take offense to someone calling you "old man", I'm not certain. Granted, the OP is new around here and doesn't have nearly as many posts as you, but I'm not surprised he was a bit miffed at the responses he got from you.
  8. Because that's how you're supposed to connect it. It actually doesn't matter which low-level input you use, L or R, either will work identically. So, if you think that by connecting to the other low-level input that you solved your problem, perhaps you had another problem that you overlooked and/or solved. The low-frequencies below your receiver's crossover point may be being sent to your sub AND your LARGE fronts with an "LFE+Main" or LFE Plus"-type setting, but the LFE channel is only being sent to the subwoofer. Of course you can send a single subwoofer a stereo signal if you use a receiver's L+R front pre-outs, but the single subwoofer won't playback a stereo signal. Sound Guy, I'd recommend you set all your speakers to SMALL. Once properly adjusted and calibrated, you'll get better performance out of your setup this way. I know you probably think that would "waste" your speakers' capabilities, but it will actually make them perform better over the frequency range that the SMALL setting sends them. It will also take a load off your receiver's amps, allowing them to perform more cleanly, as well.

    subs

Which way the woofer fires is, essentially, irrelevant. Carpeting may have some effect upon the sound of a down-firing subwoofer.
  10. NO SARCASM INTENDED ....YOUR NOT THE FIRST GUY TO OVERLOOK SOMETHING SIMPLE.........I'LL POST WHERE I DAMN WELL PLEASE...YOU ASKED THE QUESTION NOT ME....The Y connector has NO bearing on it working...Subs aren't Stereo...Gee!!!!..SUB OUT RCA JACK IS THE WAY TO HOOK IT UP .......................... audiophile..indeed........ Jeez, you still didn't read his post, did you? [*-)] I don't think anyone did. [:|] If you HAD read his -post you would have realized that he HAS connected his Sub12 via his receiver's sub pre-out; this is precisely where he has his problem. That he used a Y-splitter, whether necessary or not, is completely irrelevant to the problem he is having. If you HAD read his post you would have realized that he has done a pretty damn good job troubleshooting what could be the problem and still can't figure out what might be wrong. You know, I like trying to help people here and would like them to feel welcome. So let's quit being $h!tty and (perhaps) offer the guy some advice. [:^)] This is what we know: 1) His receiver's sub pre-out does work because his old sub works fine with it. 2) His Sub12 is functioning, as he has tried connecting it via a speaker-level connection, and it works fine. He's also tried his Ipod with a headphone out to RCA splitter, just to try a pre-amp level source, and it worked fine then, as well, so we know his sub's low-level inputs work, too. Soundguy, that's pretty baffling. I hate to ask, but are you absolutely certain that your receiver's sub pre-out works with your old sub? Have you tried the Sub12 with the Auto-On function set to "ON" instead of "AUTO"? Do you have all your speakers set to SMALL in the receiver? Otherwise, I'm stumped. [:S]
  11. Give it a good workout before you buy it. I'd be wary of a CompUSA floor-model.
  12. You were selling a KSW12, not a Sub-12. They're different subs.
  13. Knopfler's a great songwriter; one of the best. Are you listening to Shangri-La in hirez or redbook CD? I have the hirez and it's great; both the 2-channel and multichannel.
  14. Simply use a Y-adapter. 1 Male to 2 Female You can use one like this to split the signal directly out of your receiver's subwoofer out jack and then run 2 lengths of RCA cable from it, one to each sub OR 1 Female to 2 Male You can use one like this if you want to run a one single RCA cable from the receiver's sub out jack to the subs, with the actual split coming at the other end, at the subwoofers. Use the one that seems most appropriate for your exact situation. And you don't have to buy Monster. There are many inexpensive Y-splitters available.
  15. My friends told me I need to bring girls over here to watch movies, then they'll realize that the only place ti sounds better is in the theater, so they'll keep wanting to come back. It sounds pretty foolproof to me...although the "sweet spot" can't be achieved if I'm lying on the bed in a position compatible with a lady's presence... LOL! [] He got so excited he posted it twice! []
  16. I don't have either brand, JL or SVS. I have an RSW15. So what could I possibly have "sour grapes" about? Maybe that I have neither. [] If anything, you're the one who sounds a bit "sour" about all the attention the JL gets, and obviously biased toward the SVS product; any SVS product. [] You've not heard it yet, or read any reviews, yet you're certain it will best the JL. I didn't consider that to be a bash of the SVS product. I simply think the JL will have more finesse than the SVS. Sometimes finesse isn't necessarily what you want. A defensive lineman and a wide receiver can both be stellar athletes, but they both serve a different purpose. (yes, I realize this is not the best analogy.) We'll have to wait until the dust settles and see what the reviews say when the "13" becomes available.
  17. Sometimes you just gotta put 'em where you have the space. It's not that uncommon for people to put their surrounds in back in a 5.1 system. With those speakers, and the way they're designed, I'm sure they work fine back there. I would spread 'em as wide as possible, though.
  18. If SPL and bottom-feeder, slurping black-hole HT effects are all you care about, the SVS will probably outgun the JL. But almost certainly the JL will have more finesse than the SVS.
  19. Take it back if it bothers you. And put your foot down if the dealer is dodgy.
  20. Huh? [:^)] I disagree. The RF82s, which are only 3rd down the totem pole in the Reference line-up, have dual 8" woofers and are only out-woofed by the RF83s, which have triple 8" woofers. The RW12 would not keep up so well with these 98dB sensitivity speakers. If he got an RW-12d he'd always be wishing for more. Might as well get the better-performer, now. The Klipsch-recommended sub for an RF82-based system is the RSW-10d. Are you basing the perceived "league" upon their relative prices? Because the RSW and RT subs are definitely in another league, performance-wise. An RT-12d, even at twice the cost of the RF82s, would be an awesome sub with those speakers. RW-12d = 340watt amp RSW-10d = 500watt amp RT-10d = 700watt amp RT-12d = 800watt amp
  21. Where do you live, Toasted? I'm in Longmont.
  22. RSW-10d RT-10d RT-12d KW-120-THX
  23. Too bad, you're a little late. Someone on these forums just had one up for sale HERE. [:'(]
