  1. I heard the LaScala II last summer and it kicks my 1979's all over the place!! I don't know the answer to your question, but if you're looking at the LaScala because it's 'self contained' and can be pulled out of a corner to do its work... you might want to look at its plug ugly brother, the Jubilee. For a handful more dollars, you can trounce the performance of the LaScala. Only problem is the Jubilee is not quite as pretty and IS a fairly large monster. Sound wise though... it'll slay the LaScala.
  2. Someone here on the forum went to go see Gordon Goodwin & his "Big Phat Band". He gave them a glowing review. So good, I bought two cd/s 'blind'. I gotta say, they are amongs my favorite recordings as far as showing off Heritage speakers!!! and I was never a big fan of "big band" music (I am now and these are mainly the reason why). These things are great. I try to make sure that ANYONE who comes here to audition the Jubilees hears part of them. http://www.gordongoodwin.com/index1.html As for a DVD, I'm coming to belive that David Gilmours concert is pretty high up there (for me). I'm still a bit confused as it seems to be several shows spliced together. Regardless of that, I love the very intro to the dvd when it's just him on the guitar. The floor squeeks, his footboards click as he steps on them, you can hear him wiggle his fingers on his neck of his guitar. Later on, the intro to Wish you were Here (something like track 10) is in my view, the best sounding part of the entire cd. I don't know how much "snap" a big bass violin can have (is that a basoon or a chello????) but you can positivly hear and FEEL the snaps as that guy plays the bass notes. I'll put that dvd on just to specifically hear that intro, though the rest of it is good too. Simon & Garfunkel (dvd) "Old Friends" sounds utterly fantastic. Edit: It's David Gilmours "Meltdown concert" and track 10 is "Dimming of the day" (which sounds great also) and track 11 is Shine on You Crazy Diamond. It's the intro to Shine On that sounds fantastic. I got my stuff crossed up above, when I said it was Wish You Were Here.
  3. Sayyyyyyyyyyy... I DO have a Niles A/B box. I suppose I could somehow have my assistant wire the amp output into the Niles and then use the Niles to have wire A verses wire B or would that work? (would the wire "C" prior to the Niles, mess up the results?)
  4. Can it also be a buxom female with nice legs, blue eyes, brown or blonde hair and ... uh... never mind [:#] [:$] With my luck, Fini would show up in his fishnet stockings... []
  5. I'll admit to being one that isn't into all the fantastic wires and all the cash outlays they can bring. Most of my IC's are "discwasher Golden-ends" that I bought in the EARLY 1980's and use to this day with a couple newer odd ones thrown in for good measure. My speaker wires are some HD bought, 12-g simpleton stuff. NOTHING fancy going on...in fact, some of the speaker wires I"m using have been chewed upon by the dogs and have nicks all over them. Everything sounds fine. Here's the twist... I recently sold a preamp to a nice fellow in Washington state. He called me the other day and said he had bought years ago, some kind of fancy dancy speaker wire and did I want some for free? (he's even paying shipping) I actually laughed out loud. Not "lol", but I was on phone with him and chuckling. I told him that is like him driving up to my house with his Ferrari and checking out my 1967 wood panel station wagon. I'll admit to being somewhat confused by what he has since he says EACH wire is something like 6 or 7 millimeters thick, then there are two of them in the pair with a shield around it. Yet, he says the ENTIRE ensemble is something like 10 millimeters thick (which doesn't make sense if each wire is 6 mm) Be it as it may, he's going to be sending me this fancy stuff. If he sends what I THINK he's going to send, it'll be two 15' lengths. I would need FOUR lengths to replace all my speaker wires. (I'm using 15' length so when I move things downstairs, I can use what I have and cut down, rather than replace it with longer wire) So, this is going to be an exercize for fun. I'll have some fancy dancy wires, but I'll only have TWO of them which brings me to my basic question: Presuming there will be ANY difference between the two sets of wires, would I be better off trying these on the right/left channels and hook one of them (each) to the K402's? Or, perhaps, would it be better to wire them to each bass bin? My last option, would be to wire an entire speaker up with them and leave the OTHER speaker with my dog chewed wires. I've got 4 wires but (I think) only two of the fancy's coming to me... where might I best utilize the two fancy wires to see if there is any telltale difference?
  6. I think the Beldon wire I'm using cost me something under $3.00/foot? I guess I need to go to the back of the class.
  7. And the battleship gray will go very nicely with the plug ugly black, should you later, get some Jubilees!
  8. Just for kicks... I looked up some air fares. You can get a $404 ticket, leaving Chicago about 7:00 am and returning the same day leaving Knoxville at 6:50 pm. You & hubby could come down for lunch/audition and go home, or spend a long weekend in the area and visit Gatlinburg...
  9. Isn't Dean's room all "disco'ed" out? I'm thinking of the mirrored ball and love seats (the kind similar to that commercial where the family on vacation walks into the red fluffly bedroom that might not be so "family friendly")
  10. I'm not going to pretend to speak for anyone, but isn't the Khorn the specific Heritage model that the K402 WON'T work with?? I thought it didn't go high enough and as such, you'd have a hole in the sound until the 402 comes on? (Roy has told me the 402 would work nicely on LaScalas, someone else said it would work nicely on Belle's since these two both go higher than the Khorn) Maybe your drivers can fix that for all I know? Here's a thought for you... sell your EV drivers, buy the 402 with driver (under $1,000 apiece) and then when you get it home and it doesn't work well... call him back and order the bottom halves of the speaker and end up swapping your Khorns out for some full blown Jubilees!! You won't be disappointed... just ask Dean in 7 weeks []
  11. Well Buckette, it's too bad you already got Klipsch speakers then. Ya see...I've got some big ole plug ugly monsters I was gonna throw into the mix.... [6]
  12. You are asking me a serious question huh? Not only would I do it over, the wife has talked about designing our 'next house' (not that it's going to happen anytime soon). I'm figuring if we do that then I'll buy three MORE and make a dedicated HT room for them. I do not mind their looks at all...in fact, I kind of like their intimidating appearance. I/we listen to a LOT more music now that we've got these, than we did with the Khorns. Today, there is something playing literally every day. I mean, EVERY day. I still sit there and just marvel at their sound. When the wife isn't around, then I also marvel at their volume capablities [:$]. We all gotta live our lives & deal with wives or Mr. Budget or something... so with that disclaimer, I'd recommend that ANYONE who is looking to buy a pair of Khorns, get these. I'd also advise anyone who had an understanding wife, acceptable budget and didn't mind the size of these things, to ditch their Khorns and move up to these. So, yes...I'm happy with mine and I'd do it over again in a heartbeat. The only drawback I see to the specific ones I have is I might like to refinish them. I'm keenly waiting for Rigma to finish his so I can get some ideas (I'm better at copying stuff like that than being creative with it)
  13. Could you bevel the INSIDE lip of the wood to help it keep a lower profile near the exit of the horn?
  14. Welcome back ya big LUG!!! Glad to hear you're all mended. Too bad you couldn't stop by.
  15. If by happenstance, you end up jumping on a non-stop flight to Knoxville (TN), you are certainly welcome to come by here and give an audition.
  16. Dean, I don't know/understand all that technical stuff as well as many others here do. Once yours arrive, I'll be REAL interested to hear what your comments are regarding the "real world" seat of the pants response you hear in your room. As I read many of these comments, suggesting "both basically being 50 hz horns", though while perhaps that is technically true, in my room, they're quite a different sounding animal.
  17. Mark: Id guess Win XP but Im not sure. Ive got an email to him right now and I await his response <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Pauln: I made that comment to him, no idea yet if it worked, or if hes had time to try. Mike: Cant get on forum as I understand it means he can not access the forum in ANY manor. He can not view it nor can he log in. I do not know for SURE if thats what he meant to say so Ill ask him to clarify. He DID say he could view the Klipsch site, just not the forum.
  18. I guess I work backwards relative to most. Seems to me if you have a room and you want asthetics to be the foremost concern, you will usually never end up with something like Heritage (Khorns possibly excepted because they can hide in a corner and are nicer looking) If on the other hand, you start from the other direction and say "I want a 5.1 ALL HERITAGE system" then the asthetics, or lack of, caused by those boxes in the room is simply going to be a reality. Sooooooooooooooooooooo, do you want the sonic clarity & impact of all Heritage or do you want something prettier? For me it's just about that easy (as evidenced by what I've got sitting in my living room right now). For me, it's a pretty small price to pay on asthetics, to stuff 5 Heritage speakers into the same room. Throw some caution to the wind!! [<)]
  19. Plan B = Jubilees all the way around Mas: He's here in my area. You need to pack your truck with your toys, head on up here, give him a hand sorting this out (I'll deal with the local Sheriff department for you as you (cough) speed through town [6]). I'll even come over & help be a grunt moving those boxes around. Then you can head to my place and listen my headphones. Do you think a 402 on each ear will be large enough and qualify for full ear coverage?
  20. You guys that like big speakers are NUTZ!!! Now, with that said, NICE deal Fritzie!!
  21. Just a hurdle to get over. Why don't you fly down to Atlanta and watch that show? JC will pay your hotel bill, Mark will buy your ticket, DeanG will pay for your meals and Roy will pay your parking tab at your local airport. Now...where's the problem? [6]
