  1. Have a friend who just had three Heresy II's delivered to him (by me for those who don't know). Unfortunately, his tv is in a corner of his room and it really messes up some typical Heresy placement ideas. His room is the primary room in the house with a loft above, vaulted ceilings. Room is probably 18' x 40'. "Living room" is on one end, kitchen on other end with a door to bedroom, stairs to loft and a sunken living room (which is right next to corner of room where tv is) Currently he has 3 Heresy's and might use his old speakers for rear duty (ignorance might be bliss here) Looking for a competent sub to match with them and I know zippo about subs. Are they all powered? (that will affect his placement if he needs A/C to it) He'd rather buy one that would do the job for $200 instead of $2,500 (just making up the numbers but the point is, he wants to get the best value for his bux) Thanks for any thoughts.
  2. Coming along nice! I saw the 402 atop the Khorn and it kind of brings into perspective, just how big that horn is!!
  3. We could do a test perhaps? This guy can place each of his speakers on top of Michaels & see what happens. Then, Michael can set HIS on top of this guy's and see what happens (crushed?). Michael gets my vote []
  4. Hi Tom, Ironically, I'm not a huge fan of the new style Caddilacs and therefore, didn't pay a LOT of attention to them. With that disclaimer, I think the answer is yes to the CTS convertible as I DID distinctly notice a convertible that had the same rear end as their current lineup. I remember thinking "hum... we have a Mercedes (SL) clone" (not that they look alike but that WAS my initial thought) I didn't pay much attention to the Caddy's and though we DID go through the Dodge area, it seems we totally wiffed on seeing the Viper. I'm not suggesting this is WHY we missed some of the cars, but I DO think the Nissan display had the prettiest girls working the displays. [A][:#]
  5. Im back from my whirlwind. Just for kicks, (as contrasted with thinking anyone really wants to hear details) I thought Id give a snapshot of my trip. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I was going to go to the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Detroit auto show with my Dad. I had wanted to do it for probably the last five years BUT, by the time I remembered anything about the show, it was June/July (and the show is in January). A number of weeks ago (and I swear this is all true), I was driving to work and ding ding a light bulb went off inside my headDont forget about the auto show this year, its this month So, as I continued to the office, I was realizing that my wife would NOT care to do a trip like this at all. I was scheming on bribing her with a trip to Canada (Ive never been there) and perhaps a bit of gambling or something. I get to work and an hour later my dad calls. This was an out of the blue call. As he says hi, he goes on to basically say Well Richard, I got a question for you, no pressure on you for a yes/no, no feelings hurt by me regardless of the answer Richard, every January up in Detroit, there is a big show At this point, I swear I cut him off and said Dadyou dont need to say ANOTHER word Im IN!!!!! I really was intrigued how he called the VERY day I remembered it and decided I wanted to go. Ok, so fast forward and Jay (in Indianapolis) has 3 Heresys for sale. Separate from that Colter had recently emailed me asking me if I was in East TN, as he had just bought 2 Heresys near me and would I consider housing them until someone could pick them up. I said no problem. Turns out they were literally across the lake from me. Been faster for me to swim across, than drive down to the bridge. Ok, so to cut to the chase Last week as you probably know, I picked them up and tried them atop my Jubilee bass bins. Since I was going to be going to Detroit, I realized I could alter my trip by driving through Indy. I could personally deliver them to Colter AND pick up the ones Jay had (that Colter had held for me) Last Thursday, my dad was going to be arriving in town, staying all night and we were going to be leaving Friday. I then made the comment that if we left Thursday night, we could get several hours ahead of schedule and that wouldnt be bad. We left Thursday at probably 6ish, it was already getting dark and raining. Drove to Covington, KY (across border of Cincinnati) and grabbed a hotel. It was still raining. Friday morning I wanted to test a new ice cream flavor at Graeters, so at 8:00 A.M. we stopped at their factory and had a cone!! Got back into car and headed into my hometown of Hamilton where we visited with two different, lifelong friends of the family. Left their place & headed to OxfordOhio (MiamiUniversity) to find some info out on an apartment/condo Dad owns there. Did I say it was raining? From Oxford, we then hit the road to Indy & find Klipsch headquarters and Colter for the speaker swap. We arrived there something like 3:30/4:00. Got to meet Michael & Amy, a very pleasant experience. Saw Trey again. They gave us a quickie tour of the place, took my dad into the anechoic chamber and gave a short listen to some stuff. Michael & I finished our speaker swap & we said our goodbyes. Yes, it was raining here too. We continued on, driving primarily 2 lane county roads, making our way over to I-75. We arrived about 20 miles south of Detroit that evening (Friday), arriving pretty late. The following morning, we were up/gone and eating breakfast and drove into town. We arrived at the show at 8:00, not knowing it opened at 9:00. Not only was it raining, it was much colder than from where we had just been. I did just say it was raining didnt I? We sat, chatted, talked with some strangers Doors open at 9:00 and we were on our way. About 12:00, we were basically done having been through the whole place and decided to head south. At 12:15 we were in the car pulling out of the parking lot (and yes, into the rain) heading due south now for Findlay, his childhood hometown, to visit some friends & family. Once leaving Findlay, we went to Bluffton to visit another cousin of his. Back onto I-75 our next stop was rainy Hamilton to nab one of my favorite pizzas in the world. I keep their phone number in my cell just for this event. Ordered it while on road, drove into town, picked up & headed back out while eating in car. As you might realize, eating the worlds best pizza CAN make driving in the rain a bit more bearable. We were now in go mode, passing Cincinnati, Lexington, Richmond, Corbin, Jellico and finally making it to north Knoxville (yes, mostly in the rain but it did FINALLY subside while in TN). I had called my wife and she was going to drive an hour to pick me up. Driving down 75, to get to my place, you head west and Im about an hour away. For dad to simply drop me off didnt make sense as he was heading east. Oh, I forgot to mention, this was something like 11:30 PM on Saturday night. Wife agreed and we all pulled into the meeting spot literally, within 3 minutes of each other. Was perfect timing. Dad just saved 2 hours by not taking me all the way home and decided to drive on to Newport and grab hotel room there. Wife took me home with two dogs in the car. So, to recap: After leaving after work on Thursday to arriving home late Saturday night, we trekked through Cincinnati, Hamilton, Oxford, Indianapolis, Detroit, Findlay, Bluffton BACK to Hamilton, then home. All the above created out of the desire to spend three hours in Detroit.
  6. I'm meeting him tomorrow most likely (if not tonight which is highly doubtful). If you HURRY, you might make my train before I pull out!! We can lash them down to the luggage rack of my Dad's Honda?? [au][st]
  7. She's actually spending the week here in Knoxville, listening to the Jubilees...but uh... don't anyone tell Fini. [:#]
  8. That is exactly where I was heading. Had my Khorns, had Al's ES networks and had my 2404's (which were the SINGLE most noticable difference in sound of everything) I was then going to get his Trachorns but ended up sellling the Khorns and going to the 2-way Jubilee (which comes together in sound MUCH quicker than the Khorn and doesn't need the huge room to come together as a sound wave) On top of that... it don't sound half bad! [<)]
  9. http://atlanta.craigslist.org/ele/259676971.html My friend Bert put me on to these. I gotta admit, it crossed my mind to nab them myself. I've asked Bert if he'd be willing to check out, pick up hold for a forum member if it came to that, he's not had time to respond yet. I'm not affiliated with the seller, nor is Bert
  10. *you did say you burned the boxes for the Jubilees?* to a crisp [li]
  11. Craig... looking at the picture you posted, I could have been led to believe you were the delivery boy for Little Ceasars Pizza!!
  12. That's funny lol. I like your new avatar too! Too bad I didn't bonk you on the head when you were here... You would have never been found lol.
  13. Bucky, Bucky Bucky... First off... no need to stay out of this thread. The thread was started on a lark and a moment of silliness. To answer your second question about Jube being 2 way and Heresy 3 way, being drowned out by the Jubes... I have not put a SINGLE thought into that as I simply wanted to see how it would sound. I'm not suggesting anyone do this (though it clearly bolsters the sound of the Heresy's lol) I didn't cut any highs to the Heresy's. In fact, they were fed a unfiltered signal over 80 hz and I let their passive do all their internal crossing. Let me try to repaint the picture of what I did: I already biamp, crossing the Jubilees over at 500 hz. I removed the K402 and replaced it with the Heresy's, plugging them into the same amp (MC-2102) that the 402 is plugged into. I then went into the activve crossive and took the spot where the 402 is fed (500 hz and up) and LOWERED it to 80 hz. So, the Heresy's were now getting unfiltered full signal from 80 hz upward, allowing their internal passive to finish the work. What I failed to think about and therefor failed to do, was go to my bass bins (which were ALSO crossed over at 500 hz) and REDUCE the 500 hz down to 80 hz. Meaning, the bass bins were driving from 0-500 hz and the Heresy's were going from 80-?? and I had overlap from 80-500 hz of the bass bins and Heresy's. The net effect to my simpleton ears, it sounded pretty good. Doesn't compete with a 402 on top at all. compared to a stock Heresy though, it was like pumping it full of steroids with a LOT more bottom end (duh!!). The mids/highs on the Heresy simply don't have the db's that the same frequencies do on the 402 so those bands were not as prominent as when using the 402. I think THAT is the main reason why the bass sounded so much more pronounced. The 402's seem to be able to put you much closer to the music than the Heresy's (I think that goes back to Roy's bubble talk??). This isn't something that was done with any serious intent/designs on my part... I simply wanted to play. If I had a Cornwall, I'd probably try the same. Hmm...now that I say that, I realize I have 2 LaScalas that have no deep bass to speak of.... [*-)]
  14. I wasn't aware that anyone on the forum owned a pair?? HEARD them yes, when at the factory or perhaps a dealer. I heard them while in Hope with the rest of the crowd and I thought they were a CLEAR improvement over the original (which I happen to own)
  15. I don't know, but isn't that perhaps the 510? To hijack my own thread, when I was playing with the crossover last night something dawned on me. I had never listened to the bass bins 'unfiltered'. Meaning, they have always been capped at 500 hz and I simply turned the HF horn off. Doing this, I never quite understood the great shakes people meant, when they said how high the LF cabinet will go. Last night, I shut down the Heresy, listening to only the bass bin. I then went to the crossover where it cuts out at 500 hz and started to turn the dial. I ended up having it all the way up at 20K (just so I'd know I wasn't doing any limiting). It really WAS pretty interesting to see how high the bass bins go on their own. I really didn't have any idea. Then I started to twirl the wheel and scroll down the HZ curve, cutting the signal off at an ever decreasing amount. Was kinda fun/interesting to hear the real hf part knock out, then some vocals, then some drums...only to leave some room shake vibrations. It took me doing THAT process, to finally understand just how wide these bass bins play. As for Miss Valeries horn, I don't know that I would or wouldn't be better/worse off. I like what I have and what I have is the "ultimate" package as I understand it. I don't have the issues others seem to have, about the big horn on top. In fact, I kind of like it's imposing stance. No, let me rephrase that. I DO like its imposing stance [Y] To tell you the truth, when I see this smaller horn on top, the whole package seems a bit unbalanced in its appearance to me. Kind of like seeing a big guy who is 7 feet tall, 350 pounds, yet his head is the size of a grapefruit. Just something wrong about the proportions. Like its truncated on top (the above pic) (no offense to anyone here who is 7 feet tall, 350 pounds and have a head, the size of a grapefruit...was only an analogy) []
  16. I'll repeat it again... thank ALL of you, for your service. No one in 3 generations of my family, was in any service (though my dad did serve with Coast Guard for a while) This dawned on me probably 20 years ago, so during the walk of my life, if I stuble onto a stranger who's evidently with or been with the service, (it began with the Viet Nam vets who had a rough welcome home I guess), I tried to extend a thanks to them so they would know that SOME appreciated their sacrafices & things they went through.
  17. lol, congrats! I agree with Gary. Get her on board now (best case) or get your Heritage now when she doesn't have rule over the roost (and has time to adapt) or ....[]
  18. I think you asked your question (first time) perfectly fine. Perhaps the problem is in MY clarity to answer it? [*-)] Think of the weakest link theory. If the two are matched in volume, the Jub can go from 0-100 but the Heresy can go from 0-50, then as long as I go no more than 50, they're still in theoritical "lockstep" with matched (so to speak) volume. If that amount were exceeded, up to say 75, then the Heresy would perhaps blow up in smoke (oops, sorry Colter []) and the Jube would simply continue to march on within it's limits. I don't know if my theory is correct, but that's my logic on what's going on. At basic background listening levels, the Jubilee did NOT overpower the Heresy. Just added a nice floor to the sound. As the volume went up, the floor became an earthquake, but still within the basic limits of the Heresy since I was putting in between 50/100 wpc into the Heresy's (again, as per my basic meters on the amp). To be clear again, I think the main reason there was so much thunder going on, wasn't so much 'more' bass, as the reduction of higher frequency output of the Heresy (vs K402). I think bose has a 30 day 'excitement guarantee'??? perhaps that will be my next attempt... stick a bose cube on top of the Jube bass bin. After all, my wife DOES like those cute little cubes. Maybe a compromise is in order? [6]
  19. Buckette: arent the Heresys rated to take 100 watts? (hope so and if not, then Colter, I never did it) Point being, if so, then I stopped at their limit and didnt continue feeding them more. Actually the FIRST time I did it, the peg on my 2102 was doing a LONG peg at 100 so I backed it off where it was later averaging between the 10/100 mark and maybe bouncing (instead of STICKING) on the 100 mark. I know the meters arent perfect but its the only gauge I have. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Ben: I played around a bit more last night. I do not recall if I changed the basic attenuation used or not (something like 7 or 8 dbs to account for different amp input sensativities as well as bass bin/ 402) I THINK I kept the exact same attenuation I use for the 402 but bypassed all the PEQs I DID find that I made a bit of a mistake in that, I wasnt REALLY crossing over at 80 hz. What I found out last night, I crossed the HERESY over at 80 hz but I had forgot and left the Jub bass bin alone as I said, therefore it was crossed at 500. So the bass bin was going from its bottom to 500 and the Heresy was going from 80 to its top. Little bit of crossover between 80-500 (oops). Regardless of any of that, it DID sound good. We had it on during all of dinner last night. Now dont misunderstand me to be saying it sounds as good as the 402 on top. It doesnt. Im just saying that it sounds good for what it is (very good) and seems to add a TON of bass although I realize its addition by subtraction.
  20. I'd bet you one T-35 that I enjoyed it more than you! [] Always fun meeting fellow Klipschters and sharing the Jubilees has its own enjoyment.
  21. On my DX, I saved my "Roy Setting" to a new location & played with new location. Meaning, I didn't run it any hotter/colder than "stock" when I FIRST did it, crossing over at 80 hz. Later, when I sent FULL signal to the Heresy's, I might have done something like you say above without knowing what I was doing (surprise!??) When knocked back down to stock setting, crossed at 80... I think even YOU would have liked the 'slam' in the room!
  22. Dang! I think I just got called a sissie!! []
