  1. Define large source? The monitor I'm currently using if memory serves me, cost us about $1,500 back in about 1999/2000. Give or take a nickel. It also has the dual input which I've grown to love. I've always got a "dear old friend" that needs their pc worked on. It's SO nice to be able to just plug it up and use the a/b switch on my monitor to go from their pc to mine. I would rather get brand "X" that is MADE by brand "X", rather than get something rebadged as something else. (seems I'd not be paying the other persons markup also??? ala Dell?) (I have nothing agaisnt Dell, just using to illustrate) oh, if I DO fine another monitor... it's possible this one will go home with me and I can ditch my 17" at home
  2. I use to carry my LaScalas (2), Yamaha receiver and three outboard items (all dbx) in my two door 1971 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 Oh, did I fail to mention it was a convertable? The LaScalas just fit perfectly in the back seat (top down) and the rest of the goodies fit in the trunk. Packed the car & off to the party/wedding reception/frat house I went. I always wanted to hook them up to my car stereo for the run TO the aforementioned but I don't recall that I ever did. Might have been cool driving through Downtown Oxford (Ohio) with the LaScalas singing in the back seat.
  3. I've got a 21" monitor beheamoth sitting on my desk. Frankly, I love it. I run it at 2048 x 1536 resolution and if I could run it higher I would. That said, we've moved our office and in the new place, the wife is "redoing" several things (new desk, new chairs, adding molding, adding wall paper...) One of the things she insists I get rid of is my 21". She says "big monitors are passe' and thin are in" Be that as it may, I like and USE most all of my screen real estate. Ok, so if I give in and go acquire another monitor of the thin variety, what are some suggestions for one that will allow a high quality picture and high (usable) resolution? Thanks for any ideas
  4. I'm starting a rumor that SE-OTL's will fix that phenomena... oops, you didn't want to hear that huh?
  5. I was gonna start a rumor that he hated music... He created the Khorn to deafen those rebel rock & rollers to get his jollies off. Perhaps my theory needs more research
  6. !!!!!!!!!!! Dangit... I gotta start looking at the dates. I read through this whole thing then whammo... 2 years old!! Oh well, was interesting none the less
  7. If you are referring to something similar to a dbx 3bx, 4bx, 5bx, then shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh There are those who do not think these things work, or don't do it without adding noise & artifacts. There are others of us who know what you know. Kind of makes your Khorn sound a bit like a transister radio (impact wise) when it's taken out huh? (ducking & donning flame proof suit)
  8. My sister in law was visiting couple weeks ago, brought her laptop. She's going to start downloading music. She's got ZERO stereo at home other than the laptop & it's built in "speakers". When she & the wife were out doing the sister thing, I set her laptop up on the dining room table. Brought my Promedia 2.1's down from their resting place (and dusted them off ) They came home & I had a Cat Stevens dvd in. She was FLOORED by the sound. Then again, we all knew to expect that. She was raving over how real it sounded and if she got some speakers like those she'd not even need to get a stereo system because it sounds just as good. (I admit, it DID sound KILLER in the dining room, the bass was a LOT less boomy than where I have it setup next to the wall yada yada yada...) Anyways, seems her birthday is coming up August 4th. I just had a brand new set ordered for her. They'll be delivered sometime after July 28 and before August 2. Baby steps... She (and her sister) went from rolling their eyeballs at the sight of my LaScalas and Khorns. Now that she'll HAVE some, she's gonna have to respect them a bit more. Next time she's over, I'll shake the walls a bit with my Heritage and she'll be closer to "getting it". Am I underhanded or what?

  10. ---------------- I agree, I don't know how they would go against the modern "gee-whiz" looking multimedia setups available from others. Still, I think it would be pretty cool. Perhaps a "limited edition" type run? ---------------- Seems to me that all the manufacturers are trying to "out cool" each other in the looks department, making their new stuff more "rad" looking (or what ever the current vernacular is) Anyways, perhaps since a vast portion of today's youth may NOT have seen something like a LaScala or Khorn, they might perchance, stand out and be very different (would that be cool or lame???). If it was lame, well... but if it were cool, then they'd take off & be the new rage. Then little bobby would have a revelation one day when he got older and realized that his cool (kick hiney) speakers had a (for real & not imaginary) big brother.
  11. I've read several times now, how so & so loves his (typically) Heritage & tubes because on a recording such as Live in Paris, "I can hear her lips smack as she takes a breath" Well, I'm sitting on my pc, listening to said cd (not dvd) that I recorded onto my hard drive as a MP3 file and using my PM 2.1 speakers pc hard drive, mp3 and I can hear her breaths, lips smack and other details that I hear folks write about when larger speakers are utilized. So, is this just Klipsch? Does she just have smackable lips or could one hear those same nuances on your "run of the mill" tiny cube speakers too? Not cage rattling, just curious because I (suspect) just don't get it. Perhaps since I've always owned Klipsch, I don't have any reference point that has a different perspective. Another commentary on the 2.1's... They never make a sound. I can have the music BLARING and they are quiet as a mouse. Virtually all the sound just BLASTS from my monitor. Kind of neat how they disappear & this fantastic sound just belts from the monitor which has no transducers. (they happen to be elevated a bit, widened out and are right at ear level so they sound veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy good) My Khorns don't do that so I'm sure I need to twiddle with the room they're in.
  12. saw it mentioned on news last night, something like "Zane.org" or "Zimi.org" It's a search enging to find people and had a comment on news about it because of all the data they have (or had?) available. I only heard a brief about it but thought it sounded interesting with regard to finding old friends.
  13. I bought my LaScalas new while I was in college Ive moved them during college and after college about 17 times Ive had them about 25 years Theyve always been my primary speakers until Ive recently acquired the Khorns I guess LaScalas HAVE to be my answer because thats in fact what Ive done with them. I always wanted Bose though...
  14. I bought my LaScalas new about 1980. I bought my three Academies new about 1994. I guess both miss the 10 year cutoff.
  15. My wife went to a salvage store and bought some for probably half that amount (guessing). I'm trying to find a pic of them that I KNOW I have but thusfar can't. They're wood & heavy duty, all I had to do was have the base made so they'd fit the height of the room. I'll see if I have a pic at work when I get there in couple hours.

  17. Let's not forget what masters the Chinese are at replicating something too. They could probably do it for dirt cheap !! (this was just a cheap bump in reality)
  18. I brought this up a while back (when I was newer than I am now lol), I think I was misunderstood by the crowd by the "mini Khorns" as being something to compete with the Khorns on a small scale. I was really looking at the small spectrum of the speakers and thought it'd be cool to have mini Khorns or LaScalas/Belles in lieu of the plastic boxes. I don't think my first comment on it came across very well. I'd buy some in spite of having a nice pair of PM's already. They could (try) to make them in wood like Big Bro too. (help keep the people in Hope out of trouble by making them) Give the network boys more work to do too Alas... I suppose the odds are about as good as the Cincinnati Bengals having a winning season... hmm...perhaps that's not so implausable?
  19. I Was listening to my Promedia 2.1s last night & just sitting there thinking "darn", they sound good! (I really was saying darn ) Then it hit me again so Im going to repeat something I said once here but fear was misunderstood a bit (by the masses). I think it would be fabulous if Klipsch would take the Promedia speakers, keep drivers same if necessary but change the box. Find some way to make the box part look like a (insert favorite Heritage) so that it will look like youve got a pair of baby Khorns, LaScalas, Belles... sitting on your desk. Think about it, I mean for the lovers of Heritage, how cool would that be. For the (young) crowd unaware of the Heritage line, how cool would it be for them to see that & wonder what those are... perhaps it might kindle some intrigue in the Heritage line. It would be another way for Klipsch to individualize themselves from the competition & not have just another set of black boxes like everyone else, nor have the high tech gizmo looking boxes like others. Irregardless, Id LOVE to have a pair of Khorn wannabes or LaScalas sitting in the corner of my pc desk blaring the music at me instead of those plastic boxes. Obviously for the Khorns, the corner logic might not work but you could perforate the front & let the bass come straight through just like on the plastic boxes. I realize they might not be able to make an exact visual reproduction but Id venture to guess that they could get it close enough to make us happy (me anyway) ???
  20. I've never sold anything on Audiogon, thanks for the heads up. For anyone interested, I wrote here back in February or so, this thread http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=61396&forumID=68&catID=19&search=1&searchstring=&sessionID={E893E4B9-4AF6-496F-9913-B4A5AB20ABB1} Not that it matters a great shake but it will sort of give you an idea of the high calibur of customer service (and a bit of a faux pas) that Jolida had. I've got nothing but high regard for their service, even if they did try to give me a freebie. If only I weren't so honest
  21. Oh, and because I was at work when I decided to do this, I'll post some pics tonight when I get home.
  22. I bought this back in January of THIS year so it's roughly 7 months old give/take. Bought it on a whim and have bought some Wrights now. Cost about $1,125 new and I'll let it go to you for ?? I'm thinking $850 (I'll pay for shipping). I've also got an extra compliment of tubes, primarily the EH KT-90's that I'll also include, along with the stock tubes. What I mean is I have an extra set of KT90's AND an extra set of the small tubes, along with the stock set. The amp works perfect, sounds great, looks great. The main reason I'm selling it is compared to the Peach/Wrights, I DO notice some more noise in the controls but more to the point, I'm simply going to try a McIntosh amp and the wife is gonna kill me. So, for $850, you can get what would otherwise cost $1,125, PLUS the cost of the KT-90 tubes As an aside, I've bought in the last 8/9 months, a pair of Khorns, Peach, this Jolida, SACD player and Al's ES networks and a Niles switchbox. Now I know what's happened to Mr. Budget
  23. Wow, pretty unanimous. I guess I have an idea now of what my next amp flavor might be.
