  1. I found this article to be balanced and fairly comprehensive. Yes, Led Zeppelin took from other people's records – but then they transformed them http://flip.it/VULsI
  2. If you steal one line of kyric, you owe a partial credit. If you use someone elses intro, you owe a partial credit for that. LZ tied to get out on a Summary Judgement, and you are correct, jusge said that there is enough to let a jury decide. LZ has already paid on at least two other songs where they used lyrics from old time blues artists.
  3. I figured as much as this is not a new story (other than it appears to be heading to a jury trial now), I'm sure a study could be made on this throughout the last 60 years. I don't have a strong opinion either way, it just caught my eye that such a legendary band is going to be brought to a trial over this after this many years. I don't think it will matter to fans one way or another. I think duder hit the nail on the head that they did a better job with it and that's what will matter to most. Most, but not if you're the child of Randy California and you saw an interview where your father said they never bothered to even thank him or credit him for the intro. Plant and Page claim they never played with Spirit, Spirit members testified, "ih yes you did." Depending on who is more credible on that I think is going to determine how people react to the outcome.
  4. Everything prior to 1923 is public domain. Afterwards it is life if composer plus 70 years. It all derives from Mickey Mouse. Everytime MM gets close to being in the public domain Congress extends the Copyright length.
  5. Page and Plant testified they never played any shows together. Surviving members of Spirit testified that they played at least two festivals together and Led Zeppelin was in the front row watching them perform. That's a problem for someone.
  6. It is fascinating.Thicke had to pay Marvin Gaye estate over 7 million and split future royalties. StH has hade something like 600 million. Not sure how much of that is publishing royalties, which Spirit wiuld be entitled to some portion of if they prevail. If you are interested in these types of cases you should check this place out. http://mcir.usc.edu/purpose/Pages/default.html The actual cases, what the courts look at, how they decide what the split should be, etc. I believe if they were to prevail, under California Law they would only be entitled to some portion of go-forward royalty. It isn't under California law, it's federal copyright, that's why it's in federal court. They are limited to three years prior to the date of filing suit. I am not sure when they filed, but I think I remember something like '97. If they prevail they are entitled to recover whatever portion on the single, the lp, and if judge thinks StH boosted sales of lp, a portion of total lp profits, sheet music, and mechanical royalties. Even if the court finds 5%, and it is ten years, I wouldnthink it would be in the tens of millions. Which is why it will probably settle.
  7. That isn't the issue, the issue is whether they are entitled to a partial song writing credit for the song intro. Led Zeppelin has lost/settled a couple of prior cases for plagiarism of old blues riffs and lyrics without giving proper credit.

  9. But she sort of gets a rush from being out on the edge at times.
  10. Said about the implosion, but a lot of character on 15. He has mot done too well on last 3 holes,
  11. O was going to say AR, but they look a little Danish to me
  12. It is awesone. The only thing better is like what Carl is getting 300 mbps, which is very limited availability in US, or the 1 gig service which is even more limited. Uverse does have some 75 and 100 options in select areas, but I would doubt it would be worth the jump unless you are streaming multiple 4K programs.
  13. 15 mbps, only about 20% of homes currently have that is U.S.
  14. Best summary I have found so far: http://www.dallasnews.com/business/technology/headlines/20140814-att-s-ultra-fast-gigapower-internet-service-is-it-right-for-you.ece
  15. It is Rhonda Smith now, Tal moved on. I think she is an opening act for the Who.
  16. It depends on what they are bringing in. If it is a dedicated line it could be very expensive to bridge off of that. If ATT is installing a VRAD (node), they are designed so that anyone can tap off the node. You need to be within about a half mile of the node. What speed ate you getting now? ATT fiber optic varies widely in what is available. In Austin you can get 300 mbs and even their 1 gig ps service. In some areas only 10 or 10 mps is available. Here is explanation of what could be available: "The first flavor, the flavor that everybody wants is a 100% pure fiber installation that terminates at one of the subscriber's home external walls. This version is called FTTP/FTTH fiber-to-the-premises or fiber-to-the-home and it is used only in brand new and affluent subdivisions and not in existing dwellings. AT&T doesn't say what percentage of their uverse customers are on 100% pure fiber (FTTH/FTTP) but estimates place these numbers at less than 5%. The second flavor, the flavor that everybody will get is called FTTN fiber-to-the-node and is fiber to a distribution device called VRAD (video ready access device) and from the VRAD to the subscriber's home using existing twisted pair copper cables... in short phone wires. The very same cable type that Alexander Graham Bell used more than 100 years ago when he first 'invented' the telephone, the very same corroded and decaying cables that everybody have in their homes today. The third flavor, the other flavor that everybody will get is ADSL2+. AT&T is secretly and silently pushing this version of uverse and hoping their users will not notice the difference. AT&T is promoting this new flavor under the very same uverse brand as VDSL. Uverse ADSL2+ a much lesser version of uverse FTTN (VDSL) ?" The first question you need to know is what they are bringing in. That determines what might be available to you. If it is typical 10, 20 or 30 mps might not be worth it, but if it is the 100, 200 300 mps, or even the Gig service it would blow you away.
