  1. It will take off. The initial impulse is to say that the plane will remain stationairy relative to the ground. From that assumption you then want to say the wings are NOT moving through the air, and therefore no lift is created and therefore will not fly. That is the difficulty I had in looking at the problem at first. The question is really whether the plane can move forward, despite the conveyer belt moving in reverse. We tend to think in terms of motor vehicle transporation because that is the mode of transportation we are most familar with. If there is a car on the conveyer belt it is clear that it does not move forward. It's mode of moving forward is directly linked to the belt- - the friction of the tires on the belt. Regardless of how fast the wheels spin forward, the belt moves equally fast in reverse and the car never moves an inch. The key to the problem is that what causes an airplane to be propelled (that is the key word) HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE WHEELS OF THE AIRPLANE. The wheels are free spinning so the belt can be moving 200 mph is reverse, and soon as you add the slightest power to the airplane it propels forward. The wheels are able to turn faster then the conveyer belt because they are free spinning and this allowss the propeller to pull the plane forward. e speed steady. The plane actually does start moving forward relative to the ground, the wing does develope lift and can eventually take off. The trick, or key, to the problem is that the wheels are freespining and have nothing to do with the propeller, or jet engine, or whatever, that propells it. So if you envision a bicycle rider on a treadmill and it adjusts to his speed, he can peddle until he drops dead but he is never going to go forward. But if someone standing off to the side of the treadmill hands him a rope and says hold on he can stop peddiling and he stays in place. If the person off to the side of the treadmill starts walking forward he will pull the bike rider forward with him, even if the treadmill goes faster in reverse. The wheels on the bike spin faster, but that is no bid deal because there is very litte friction. The external force of the rope, pulling the bike forward, is exactly what the propeller is doing on the airplane. Eazy Peazy (After struggiling with it for about 6 hours the first time this thing was posted) Travis
  2. Luther, I dug into my Aja stash, I found another one for you to try. ABC/GEMA 1977 (same matrix No. as your MCA, it was just sold in Germany and then sent over to U.S later on) Travis
  3. Coalter is going to be jealous. I say it needs more barn. Great photos. I have to say, y'all know how to hang. Travis
  4. Coytee, You are indeed, and for all time, the No. 1 troublemaker. [] Are you insane? It took me forever to figure this out AND I'M A PILOT. It does make you think though doesn't it? Travis
  5. Well there was a five year gap in between Can't Buy A Thrill and Aja, and they had done some pretty good albums in that timeframe (Countdown to Ecstasy, Pretzel Logic, Katy Lied and The Royal Scam) and by then already had a lot of Jazz overtones in their music, but Aja was still at a completely different level. The song Aja is my favorite off that album. Gadd is insane on that song. Mike Mike, You are right, I was confusing Can't Buy with The Royal Scam for some reason. The Royal Scam was right before Aja and the one that I was thinking would have caused them to think that a guest artist would have concerns about playing on one of their lp's. Travis
  6. What a great clip from YouTube. I liked hearing Shorter talk about how he came in and did it, all pro. Just before that Walter and Donald were talking about having to talk Shorter into playing sax on the song, and that it took some doing. They said that he was probaby concerned that they were going to ask him to something inappropriate, and that it was "understandable" for him to feel that way. I was trying to figure out what the heck they were talking about, why would they think that Wayne would be leary of getting into trouble by playing on one of their lp's.. Then I remembered what came out before Aja. No wonder, it was Can't Buy A Thrill. Travis
  7. Based on that review, I think I just might. I would love to hear a comparison between that reissue and the MoFi. I thing the major improvement from the ABC original is going to be in that better raw materials are going to be used in the vinyl and the pressing is going to be better then the original. I can't wait to hear what Luther says between the latest, the MoFi and the Simply Vinyl Travis
  8. Well duh, I knew it looked like Austin, The Dillo World HQ. Liberty Lunch, sheesh, where did I get that. Travis
  9. Great tjead Luther, you have always had great taste in music. It came out in '77 when I would have been a Jr. in H.S. I seem to recall it came out in the summer because it is one of the first lp's I remember getting major pre-release promotion by way of TV ads. I mean there were TV commercials for KTEL Hits of the '60's, the original songs by the original artist, but I don't remember seeing tv commercials for an upcoming lp being released. That was the first lp I can remember them doing that on. I am sure there were others, but that is the first one I actually saw. Another bit of trivia, the LP won a grammy, but not for the artists. As mentioned above, it was a technical masterpiece, it won a grammy for Best Enginer. It was recorded in the same fashion as Pet Sounds, in moduals at something like 5 seperate studios. It was super expensive to make, they would get 10 different people to track on guitar and pick one. As far as editions of LP, I would think the MOFI would be best because of the vinyl quality, and then a really good original edition. If Simply Vinyl did not mess things up to much I bet that one is good too. The reason why I think a reissue would not be that much better is that Aja was mastered by the Genius at A&M. How hard to you think it was for them to get ABC to let them go to A&M to pay Bernie to master it for them? The thing was, as complex as that recording was, and layered as it was, he was probably the only guy in the country who could pull it off. I doubt there is going to be much improvement in the mastering, there might be a tweek here or there with better equipment available now, but it is not like taking something that was mastered pourly to begin with that is going to see major improvement if someone else had another crack at the studio masters. I am going to have to dig it out and play it tonight. Travis
  10. It's not Lukenbach, but I am stumped. It almost looks like the old Liberty Lunch in Austin, butI don't this so. My guess is Lubbock Travis
  11. Happy Birthday Eldon, Sorry I missed it, and the Muffulettas. Travis
  12. If you have not already been given this link, you should give these guys a try. http://www.audioholics.com/education/cables/hdmi-1-3-cables-bitrate However, as with anything, try and find at least a couple of articles on any one subject to try and sort through the hype and misinformation. I like the audioholics site because it is a good place to START if I want to try and understand something. Travis
  13. Must be Friday night. Got my lawn chair, ice chest, binos and chips. Everything I need to sit back and watch the fireworks on this thread. Travis
  14. Joe, Thank you for the quick reply, I sent Ron an email and will wait to hear from him. Now you need to get set up so that you can hear these reissues on Klipsch speakers in a good system. I am sure Allan Songer will accomodate you, you are in SoCal correct? Allan in in the Long Beach area, has a killer system, and most, if not all, of the original BST you are going to reissue. You need to hear these through Klipsch herritage speakers, preferably KHorns. My guess is that you and your colleague would be over at Allan's all day. Travis
  15. Joe, Do you know if Acoustic Sounds, Elusive Disk or the other two outlets are going to be offering the series in a subscription format so the buyer can keep the same serial numbers throughout. Acoustic Sounds did this on their Fantasy 45 series, you could subscribe to the whole issue which allowed you to have same serial numbers. I really hope you will consider that, and if we need to do it direct, just let me know where to send the check. Travis
  16. Two VRD's @ 5 each is 10 A BBX, going from memory at the office, Rectifier tube, a 6DJ8, a line stage, two in the phono stage is 5. So a total of 15, at least that is what I am going to vote in the poll. Travis
  17. Welcome Back, and more importantly, CONGRATULATIONS. Travis
  18. I would think only a handful on that page would qualify. I think a lot of that stuff is made for shows like CES, or with regard to the german horn companys, for the big shows in Europe. I don't think it is ever intended to really be a "production speaker." However, the Wilson X-2s sell, I think there are about 10 pair in Austin alone (I am not a big fan of them, I don't see it at all), and those Magico Ultimates have sold more then 10 pair, there is a waiting list to get them, Mr. Wolf is quite a horn man. I heard they are absolutely incredible. His 20K studio monitors are in pretty good demand all by themselves. T
  19. Glad to hear Otis made it out of the woods on that deal too. I am familar with blaso now that you said it was a fungus. When we took Malcolm to A&M and looked at the radiographs they said it was either cancer or vary advanced fungal infection, there was no way to tell for sure without a biopsy. They also said at that stage the treatment for an advanced fungal infection was the same at cancer, chemotherapy that ends up almost killing the dog in order to kill off the fungus. Very, very poor prognosis. We had the necropsy done, which was ruled out, I would have died if we had failed to notice breathing problems and let it go. Moral of the story, if your dog lives near a wooded area, starts wheezing or having other breathing problems you should have them checked out right away. It was great you did all of that follow up until they caught it on Oddie. I am really glad to hear he is doing well. Travis
  20. It was the an official factory McIntosh store. Nothing but Mac, can you believe it? Where did you go to high school there? Travis
  21. We're talking about the possibility of hosting an open house to give you guys an opportunity to listen, if there is interest. I'll start a separate post about it as decisions are made. I'm there, Hope or Indy, if it well before CES. Otherwise I will see them there I am sure, along with 10,000 of my closest friends. Travis Don't count on CES for public consumption. Not saying it won't happen, but don't count on it. Wow really? They are going to be in Denver right? T
  22. I always loved Oddie, I was bummed when you bumped him on the Avtar. I am sorry if I missed it, but what is the story with O's Blasto-Mycosis, has he beaten that too I hope? Travis
