  1. How much time have you got? To help narrow this down, are you primarily interested in the quality of playback (reproducer) or recording? Do you want to be able to play 10.5" tapes, or just 7"? If you can narrow that down for me I can give you several good suggestions. Travis
  2. Allan, You are the Strad of Thorens. Such a beautiful job. Scott, How is that R2R working out? You made any tapes yet? Travis
  3. As many of you know already, the MX-110 uses two 6U8/ECF82 tubes in the line stage (and one in the multiplex circuit) and this is very difficult to find in Telefunken. And then it is very difficult to find quiet ones. Rarer still are the up graded version of the 6U8, the ECF 802. Tim got two of these as kind of a bonus since I will probably never own anything again that uses a 6U8.
  4. The average height, I'm talking the AVERAGE, of a male in The Netherlands is 6'2", the tallest of any country. I am 6'3" and on the far left. I don't know what happened to Tim, Cab and Edward, but I think the average height shot up an inch while they were out of the country. Maybe they spent too much time in the "coffee bars" back home. Travis
  5. While listening to some music, from left to right, Tim, Cab, and Edward
  6. Well Timkidd (Tim) our forum brother from the Netherlands (think Holland, Amsterdam, tulips, wooden shoes, hash bars, red light district, Heineken), came with three of his friends from the Netherlands and visited Austin, Texas, and some of the surrounding sites. They arrived the weekend before Memorial Day weekend and stayed until last Sunday. Tim also took the opportunity to buy my Mac MX-110 preamp and make sure it got packed properly and shipped back home to go with his MC-30's. Since they were here we made sure that got a good sampling of real Texas Barbeque with brisket, baby back ribs, jalapeno sausage and all the side together with some good Texas beer to wash it down with. After that day I think they hit it hard every night, I had a chance to see them one morning for coffee and they were going very slow at times. During one late night I heard one of Tims friends was quoted as saying: : Ik heb een ambulance nodig, er zijn overal spinnen en ik ben heel erg bang. They went out and hit the road for a few days and came back so Tim could get his preamp all boxed up nice and safe. During some down time I asked Tim if he and his friends had seen any pretty Texas girls. He started asking me if there was something in the water in Texas, or the beef, or the BBQ sauce or some other secret that results in all of the natural beauty that abounds in the Lonestar State. I meant to get these up a lot sooner, but I have been busy getting ready for a murder trial that starts Monday that I have been working on night and day for the last couple of weeks. I just couldn't look at it anymore and decided to take a 15 min. break to get this these photos posted. Here is Tim (on right) talking with Luther (Wardsweb) who drove up from San Antonio that day.
  7. Not any more, at least not since '05. Jessie Helms is gone and Lizzy is not pulling her weight.[]
  8. Arky, Get them, I think Luther (Wardsweb) would pick them up for you, I can drive down to SA to get them. Get a new date from Roy for the 4 of us to meet with him, and I will bring them up to Hope. (I have a murder trial starting the first week of June so it would have to be mid to late June for a rescheduled date with Roy). Travis
  9. Dave, Timkidd posted above that he is in fact coming to Austin and is in fact going to be taking the MX-110 back to Holland with him. So I won't be able to trade. As a consolation, I am going to try and get Tim to get two Dutch girls (think St. Pauli) to stand on either side of the preamp to take a photo once he gets it back to Holland. I'll post it on the forum. Travis
  10. I never stopped working out, even while smoking. Obviously I can do more without. We still walk every night, ride my bike and my Norditrak. Much of the past 3 days have been spent in my driveway shooting baskets. Go Gary Go. Incredible, so glad to hear you keep pushing forward. Travis
  11. Mallett, Great write up. When I saw the cover of that box it had your name written all over it! I was really hoping it would have great sound because I know how much you like HIGH QUALITY recordings of organ music. I gave it a spin on the Tandberg, no NR, no expansion, and I thought it sounded incredible and I don't even care for organ music. I tell you what, you are very lucky. If I had not posted that you had something coming your way before I even received that tape, it probably would not have made it down your way. I hope you get a lof of enjoyment out of it, and I also hope it gets you into using that Sony more. Travis
  12. Sorry about that, yes I have been busy, big case, can't sleep. Last night went to bed at 11, could not sleep, up at 3 because I was tired of laying in bed wide awake, worked more on case, at least it is Friday. I will look below. Travis
  13. Mallette, Did that real analog thing make it to you yet? The thing with the sound of reel analog, that makes you realize that CD's just don't have the sound of reel analog?[:$] It shoud be there by now. Travis
  14. I have a NM 110, there are several photos of it here on the forum, but when I listed if for sale a few months ago Timkidd (our forum brother from the Netherlands) said he wanted it and he is going to be flying here to Austin next week with a few friends to pick it up. If for some reason that does not go through, which I don't think is likely, I will shoot you a message to see where things stand with you. I certainly understand why you like the 110's. This one was just gone through, top to bottom, by Craig. Funny thing is, and this may be because of tube selection, both Craig and I seem to be able to get the 110 to sound almost exactly the same as a BB (requires some tone control adjustments on the 110) to the point where I cannot tell them apart. This was on Khorns, so I can not speak to what you were experiencing between the LS's and CW's. Good luck in your hunt. Travis
  15. Well that really stinks Larry! I was getting ready to walk out the door of my office and head home, now I have to stop off and Barnes and N. on the way home to buy TAS. Do you subscribe? I hope it is on the shelves or I am really going to be bummed. But seeing I have a Nottingham TT and a Basis tonearm I have just got to read that article. Travis
  16. What color lables does the Live at the Filmore East have? Travis
  17. Gary, If you want, I'll bring my bow in October and you won't have any more deer problems.[^o)]
  18. I think it is more like "fooling" myself, but we shall see, we shall see. Travis
  19. I just sold my KHorns to Shinnerman. I am getting Cornwalls to bridge the "gap". Those are a fantastic looking pair, at a great price! Travis
  20. Klipsched, I'll bid a bunch on it if you go pick it up, you can listen to it for a few days, but then you have to pack the snot out of it and send it to me. I'll tape it my two track at high speed, then I will send it to Mark for a listen, and then he has to repack the snot out of it and send it to fini for a listen, and then he can return it to me. Of course it better look pristine, except for snot, when it gets back to me. Travis
  21. How did those DIY speakers sound, those look like the same ones our friend Arthurs has in Ft. Worth. Danny Richie/GR Research? Travis
