  1. Buy the one that suits your current and future needs the best. It's cheaper than upgrading later.
  2. I know it's big and heavy (I used to have a PB12+2) but if you could place it at your listening position and play some bass heavy material, you could walk (crawl) around the room and find the next best place for it. You'll loose a little SPL moving it out of the corner, but you can run the gain up a little to compensate.
  3. Are the surrounds in the cabinet just for the pic, or are they hooked up?
  4. I have not seen the movie yet but in another forum I visit this particular scene has raised some issues. Many posters have perceived issues with the "horn" sound, thinking they have equipment problems. The general concensus is that it's just a strange sound in the track. You might try listening to that track on someone elses system for comparitive purposes. I've also read that the WOTW sountrack is very bass heavy and has literally taken out some subs. I can't wait to hear it!
  5. Looks just like my HT pics.
  6. I would get the sub next. It can be used in the 2 channel mode along with your bookshelves. The center , or center and surrounds would all be needed next to complete the 5.1.
  7. That is obscene. What kind of extension does he get, and how loud? Is it high quality? http://photobucket.com/albums/y290/cecaa850/ As far as extension, I have no idea, but for grins, I'll put a 10Hz test tone on at -10 and any closed door in the house (2900 sq. ft. brick on concrete) looks like someone's trying to shake it off the hinges. I'm sure I have usefull output below that but I haven't measured it. How loud? They have no problem keeping up with my RF7's at any volume which is all I care about. The SQ is better than the 2 SVS's that it replaced. Sorry I'm not a numbers guy, I don't pull out the meter unless I'm calibratng or EQ'ing. I am however very happy with it and for the first time in my HT's existance, I have no desire to upgrade my sub.
  8. I never stated the forum WAS the proper place for a customer service contact. I agree on this point also.
  9. "That being said, starting a thread after business hours (rather than a PM or e-mail), expecting it to be read and addressed within one day and then getting petulant when your thread is not responded to is a tad over the top." This we agree on.
  10. All I'm saying is that "blasting back" because a customer was upset (rightly or wrongly) is not the best way to handle ANY situation from the retail point of view. That's the reason that advertising sells the first product and customer service sells the next. It could be anything from audio to automobiles. Retailers that don't realize this are going by way of the dinosaurs. If it were one forum member to another it would be a different story.
  11. I've found it very difficult to calibrate dis-similar subs, but maybe it's just me. As far as calibrating 2 subs non-colocated, drop Tom a line at SVS, he has a pretty foolproof way to do it that includes phase and gain. It's about a 4 step process. I threw it out when I built my IB otherwise I'd copy and paste it here.
  12. I would like to point out that you posted your question at almost 8pm indy time the night before Thanksgiving. (A national US holiday) Klipsch closed Wen. at 5pm indy time. IF you want someone to help I suggest you get off your high horse and wait until Monday. At that time I will be glad to have your national sales rep contact you and let you know what is going on. IF you can not wait unitl Monday, enjoy your cardboard sub. What a wonderfully condescending post. If that was an attempt at humor, smileys would have been appropriate. If that was an accurate snapshot of a Klipsch representatives' true state of mind then I might suggest sensitivity training. Not the type of reply that I've received from other factory reps. Not enough can be said for professionalism. My apologies if I missed some sort of "inside joke". Carl
  13. I set mine up in the stereo mode. My receiver allows me to set the mains to small in the stereo mode however.
  14. Klipsch Sub12 or SVS PB10. Both viewed very highly. The SVS would have a slight edge for HT IMO. Merry Christmas
  15. I don't have the EAR's knowledge but.......... If you like the sub, that's the most important thing. You did ask for opinions however (although not mine specifically)! Let me pre-empt my comments by stating that I haven't had the pleasure of hearing that particular sub. The 20-150 Hz +/- 3dB doesn't look that impressive untill you consider the fact that they do it with 3 8" drivers. It should sound nice for music but may not be the ultimate sub for HT. It should have a high WAF as it's a nice looking unit.
  16. I"m not aware of any $400.00 retail subs that will do justice to a pair of KLF-30's. To stretch your budget you may look at DIY or some of the internet direct sub companies.
  17. Dang, an hour and a half from here. My wife would s**t. I'm running out of rooms (and amps).
  18. After they're hooked up and you catch your wife re-watching U-571, you know you haven't been doing your job.[]
  19. I had the Ultra (tube not box) and PB12+2 at the same time. To me the +2 would put out more SPL than the single driver Ultra. The Ultra driver is a little cleaner sounding however under normal listening. If you are predominately a movie guy, go with the +2, music at sane levels may sound a little better an the Ultra. Neither sub is a slouch by any means and either should be an upgrade. The +2 will give you more SPL and better sound quality. The Ultra will take the SQ up a slight bit from the + driver and give you roughly the SPL of your current sub (if you have the isd2). Carl
  20. That story reminds me of the time I had some friends over so I could show off my system. I fired up the THX intro and ran the volume up to -3. Rain, small thunder THEN.......... more small thunder. I didn't turn the amp on for the sub, DOH. It just wasn't the same the second time around.
  21. As good as they are, I've run my RF-7's without a sub with movies and find them lacking at best. LFE tracks are really meant to be played on a good sub. If you even remotely consider a DIY project, an IB sub has to be considered. Pre-made, I'd second the motion of most any offering by SVS.
  22. A 22" sub tuned to 32 Hz that needs several thousand watts to wake up. I'll have to get back to you on that one.[]
  23. There have been a few posts on it allready. It is interesting however. It appears best suited as a supplement to a conventional subwoofer. A sub-subwoofer if you will.
