Yes, I was talking about stand alone units. I've seen them with high end players and couldn't figure out their function. I didn't know if adding one to a regular player would help. Carl
I took pretty much the same approach as Hunt, but when it came to upgrade from the 5's to the 7's, I couldn't part with the 5's. They are now in my bedroom. They are a great speaker. No slouch for sure. Carl
I may need to look one more time. I'm certain of the keyhole, but when you said that they may have both, I did not look in the keyhole to see if there were threads. There are no threaded inserts visible on the back of the speaker, but I did not look that closely inside the keyhole. I'll climb back up the bookcase tonight and get back with you. Carl
For those of you using one, what are the sonic benefits. Are they only used if your player has digital outputs? I'm assuming yhat they go between your source and pre/pro. I guess i'm looking for a laymans explination on why they exist. Thanks, Carl.
I've had great luck with a co. out of Florida called Simplyspeakers. They specialize in refoaming surrounds and reconing speakers. I've had 5 drivers done so far and they would pass for new when they finished with them. Everything is tested before they send them back to you. If you are a DIY'er, they will even send you the kit to fix them yourself. I found them out of desperation when by sub went out of my '95 Taurus SHO. The dealer wanted $465.00 for the sub and enclosure. No one had a replacement that size. I took the enclosure apart, sent them the driver and $35.00 + freight later I was back in business. They also guarantee their work for 12 mo. Just a thought. Carl
I'll try to remember to look for you tonight when I get home. Off the top of my head I don't recall a keyhole (or insert) on the back. Mine are on a shelf so I didn't really pay that much attention. Carl
For those of you that money is a factor, the 7200 can still be had in the $850.00 range, brand new. Just google 7200 sales, there are a few out there. Bang for the buck, it cant be beat. Up till a month or so ago, it was H/K's flagship. Carl
I've had my 7200 for about a year. It has tremendous, clean power especially when you consider that it is a receiver, not an amp/prepro. S&V measured it in the 2 channel mode and it puts out over 190 watts! I love the way it sounds with the Klipsch Reference series. I was fortunate enough to get one during the model closeout for about $950.00 (about a grand less than msrp). The 7300 has slightly more power and I believe video upconversion. If you can get one at a decent price you will not regret it. Carl
A question for the more knowledgeable (Dean). If it were just the bottom woofer, could it be a problem with the jumper, or do both woofers work off the low post? Carl
Everyone's rooms and ears are different. THX recommends x'ing over at 80Hz with speakers set to small. I personally prefer the 60Hz setting for movies. On the other hand I have the mains set to large + subwoofer for 2 channel listening. My settings will not produce the best sound for everyone in every room. After trial and error, those are the settings that sound best to my ears in my house. Carl.
Be sure that when you run your speaker cable you have a couple feet excess coming out of the wall. They are a lot easier to hook up that way. When you're wires are connected to the speaker, you can stuff the excess back in through the hole in the wall. I second the motion that it is a two person job. Carl
You should have installed the little bumpers on the wall side of the speaker. They keep the speaker from vibrating and allow extra room between the speaker and the wall for the wire. Carl
If your system is used 50% for HT than I would highly recommend a sub. Some of the .1 info goes below 20 Hz. The RF7's aren't designed for that type duty. As far as which one......... that's where the debate starts. Most people on this forum (not all) either go with Klipsch or SVS. Both make fine subs. You need to read up on what the subs weaknesses and strengths are, then decide what is important to you and go with that. Remember the most important thing about a sub is set up. Don't overlook it. Carl
Definitely save your pennies and get the RC-7. I used the RC-35 and then upgraded to the RC-7. No comparison. Put off the purchase ,avoid upgraditis and second guessing. You'll be glad you did. Carl
