  1. Oh I am not criticizing anyone elses views on movies or how they watch them. I am just not that involved in the technical aspects. I generally just judge them on the "was I entertained or not" scale. Since my wife is convinced that I like the worst movies ever made, I guess my oppinion on the subject should be taken with the proverbial grain of salt!
  2. What is it? It is actually just ASCII with special commands to indicate formatting. It is a Microsoft developed format that I always assumed was automatically installed with any of the later Windows versions. There are third party RTF Editing programs out there, though. I guess I am just not connecting your question with what you want to accomplish in my mind...
  3. I guess I just don't understand what exactly you think you achieve with these posts. Your oppinion of these speakers is pretty universally known by now.
  4. My stepdaughter paid right at a $1000 for the Cinema 6 with the sub, so I think you did good. as for the receiver, she just ordered a Yamaha RX-V657 and is looking into getting two more speakers (to go to 7.1). I have heard great things about the RX-V657 and the Cinema 6 system sounds great, so we have big hopes for the end result. Congrats on your purchase!
  5. I actually kinda liked it. I tend to go into movies just wanting to be entertained and not looking for flaws and such, though.
  6. I was wondering the same thing. A new CDP is on my list of needs, so I have been watching all this closely...
  7. I have actually been asked to leave this particular BB for doing just that in the recent past!
  8. I heard a comment in passing tonight and didn't have a chance to hear the reasoning behind it. It was stated that in a 2.1 system (2 speakers and 1 subwoofer) you should never center the sub on the front wall between the speakers. True? False? either/or? Reasons? Thanks!
  9. We saw a faux finish done with a gold base and a deep red top coat that was absolutely georgeous and my wife has been on a faux finish tear ever since!
  10. A woman's pespective... From my wife, "Ask him how he did that faux finish!" Prioroties! Sheesh! []
  11. I agree with the curly headed one! Listen to them for a while! Cornwalls are amazing sounding speakers just the way they were built! There is plenty of time to think about upgrades later! I have had my Heresies for 20 years now and I think I am Almost ready to think about having the crossovers brought up to spec again! []
  12. His wife thinks that the only thing scarrier than him in a room full of power tools is him and Me in a room full of power tools! Can you say 911 on speed dial? []
  13. I got an email from a friend of mine today. He is Not a big Audio type, but I am wearing him down! I was telling him about wanting to build some subs and maybe some speakers but not having a place to do it except my brother's shop which is 200 miles away. Here is his reply: "I have a serious woodworking shop, I have some serious woodworking tools, I have a serious Lack of woodworking skills! Let's build us some speakers! Granted they will probably be Ugly speakers, but that is what it is! Bring me some wood!" I spit coke all over the keyboard when I read that!
  14. Hey the "expert" at our local Best Buy/Magnolia told me that the reason Klipsch was out on a metal rack next to the Bose display was that Klipsch was way more comparible to Bose than to the "High End" speakers in the Magnolia rooms! Must be true, he had a name tag and was at Least 22 years old!
  15. This question was thought of because of a comment made to me today. What in your music collection would shock people who know you and your music tastes? The comment that brought this up was made by a friend who was shocked to hear Rage Against the Machine blasting out my windows when he stopped by today. For me, the two that don't fit with the rest of my collection are the already mentioned RATM (of which I have everything they ever recorded) and The Beastie Boys (I don't care for their most recent work). I love both of these even though they are nothing like what I usually listen too. Rage is also the music that sees the highest volume levels in my system. It is just Meant to play LOUD! I actually had a cop ask me if I didn't think I was a bit old to be listening to The Beastie Boys earlier this year! []
  16. If I have to pick a single instrument, Pipe Organ! Specifically Bach played on a Pipe Organ!!! More specifically Bach played on a Large concert hall Pipe Organ!
  17. Great news, Bruce! My mom has been battling Small Cell Carcinoma for a couple of years. We all worried about her losing her hair (you would have to know her to really understand how bad we thought it was gonna be!). She really surprised us. She never let it bother her a bit and on one occasion even had us all rolling. A friend of my neice's saw her with her wig and said "your hair looks nice." My mom didn't hesitate. She lifted the wig and said "thanks, it's not mine!" We are to the point with mom of waiting for the inevitable, but considering her original prognosis was for "maybe a couple of months." we are very happy to have had two more great years. The Chemo and radiation have been really tough, but she has demonstrated time and again why I fully believe that she is the strongest woman on the planet! Hang in there Bruce and enjoy the time you have. There are lots of people out here praying for you and your family.
  18. I just noticed that pic. DAMN!!! Now That is a nice wall!!! I have a friend with a similar looking "Wall'o Kenwood"!
  19. Oh I have No Doubt. I have had the chance recently to visit dedicated listening rooms on three occasions and I am convinced! I now believe that you can do wonders with appropriate treatment, I just don't have the first clue where to begin when designing the treatment for a given room. Evan's room was even more unique in that it wasn't rectangular or even 4 sided. It was shaped something like a theater. Flat front wall with a built in gear rack, side walls angled out from each other, back wall was actually three sided, and the ceiling was higher in the back than in the front! Then he added some treatment based on measurments and listening untill he was satisfied! It worked!!
  20. Ours it 18' above our house and just Begging to be struck!! It was pretty impressive to see the little sensors on the windows (for the alarm system) vaporized in a tiny flash of light! I have been trying to decide what to get as a replacement. I am a Pioneer man from Way back and have looked at those (Love thos silver face plates!), but in my old age I am starting to enjoy trying different gear. I had never considered McIntosh to be in my price range, but If I have the chance I will definitly give one a listen. That is one of the things that I Love about my Heresies... They let you hear what the gear is capable of. Plus, despite all the things that people seem to find to not like about them, I just plain Love the way my music sounds through them.
  21. I agree completely. I am definitly not a High End audiophile type of guy. I can pretty much say for sure that his system was not 175 times better sounding than my $33 H/K was. That being the case, if I could afford a MC2102 without it taking money away from important things, I would buy one! It is just That stunning! It now ranks Way up close to the top of my best looking audio equipment list! You will notice that I have never got on anyone who is into very expensive and possibly questionable gear for the simple reason that I believe that if it makes you happy and your family is not suffering because you spent money on it, then it is worth precisely what you paid for it. Evan is a McIntosh fanatic and can easily afford it so his setup is perfect for him. I am a late 70's Pioneer fanatic but Can't afford it right now, so I buy what I can afford and enjoy the music! []
  22. I think so....that was the reunion tour right? Yup. Recorded at the Hammersmith Apollo on Oct. 1, 2001. It was their first show together in something like 18 years. The music was Amazing, but the production quality of the DVD is a little rough. Mostly the Very bad editing. Parts of it give me a headache!! Now back to your regularly scheduled topic... 3 is way to low a number!
  23. Oh I am Sure that it had ALOT to do with the room treatments And room shape. I would Love to be able to design a room around my gear like he did! Unfortunately, the H/K (along with most of my other audio gear) died a horrible death in the "great lightening strike incident of 2005!!" Lightening struck my house (TV Antenna) and killed my alarm system, several computers, 2 TV's, small appliances, as well as my audio stuff! I am using a borrowed Pioneer A/V receiver right now to have something to listen to until I decide what to buy to replace my old stuff. BTW, Homeowners Insurance and Vintage audio gear... Not a good match unless you have a specific rider to cover it! []
  24. No wonder he declined my offer to trade him straight up for my 1969 Firebird!! []
  25. I am gonna give away both my age and my strange music tastes here, but here are my three: 1: Roxy Music - Roxy Music 2: Procol Harum - A Salty Dog 3: Yes - The Yes Album Fire away! Dr. Who... Was it Roxy Music: Live At The Apollo? Excellent DVD either way!
