  1. I collect alot of old sci-fi images and found the attached image. It looks like the robot is jamming on some Shorthorns.. Looks like a turntable on the right LOL....
  2. That is more than a turntable it is modern art. Simply beautiful.

The Klipschorn predates pretty much any of the others - in fact PWK sent engineers to Michigan to work with EV on the Patrician and Centurion (I wonder how that went down with EV's own staff...) but, according to Mr. Klipsch, "they still never got it right." ---------------- That is interesting I have always wanted to hear a Patrician beautiful speakers. I did not know PWK worked with other manufacturers.
  6. Ev or Klipsch which came first ? http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?vintothr&1111632431 Beautiful but pricey
  7. I was looking at some tubes this week and noticed there was a price difference of $50 for ceramic base over black base. I couldn't imagine there would be a difference in sound but I have assumed wrong so many times thought I would ask the pro's. I was checking out the latest sophia electric 300b http://www.sophiaelectric.com/pages/se/princess_300b.htm Option 3: $399.99 per premium matched pair with 30 days warranty (Ceramic base) Option 4: $350 per premium matched pair with 30 days warranty (Black base) Ceramic base or black base any audible difference?
  8. If I could pick up a pair of shorthorns for $150 in decent shape I would do it even if they didn't sound great. I think they are beautiful speakers and would look great in my bedroom as a second system not for serious listening.
  9. you mean like the star trek where everything is the same except that everyone has goatees and acts like they are on herion
  10. I've been pondering a good way for forum members to let out their agressions in a productive yet agresive matter. It came to me the other night when I was watching Office Space you know the baseball bat to the copier scene. What we do is start a collection of Bose 901 gear and then supply agresive members with baseball bats yes I know this seems scary but we can trust them. Then you just start a real life bose bashing system as long as no one says anything positive about the bose everything shoud be ok. Just a thought....

It's perhaps this 'music-hanging-in-the-air' quality where they can be exceptionally good. (And yes, good PP designs can come pretty close). Where they differ seems to be tonality: 300Bs being 'warmer' than 2A3s or 45s. Wolfram ---------------- "'music-hanging-in-the-air' quality" This is exactly how I feel about my 300b SET and after trying some solid state gear this week I have found a new appreciation for tube/set. The feeling that the music is just in the room and not radiating from the speakers is bloody brilliant. After I get setteled into my new house perhaps some of the arkansas crowd could come over for a listening session. I'd love to hear some other gear.
  12. I doubt anyone here has an opinion on this subject. hehehee I need both since I own alot of cds and not everything is released on lp. As far as quality goes I'm not sure I like the way my turntable sounds better than my cd player but this is not a fair comparison as my cd player is not very good and my turntable is a higher quality piece of equipment.
  13. Thanks for all the advice now to do some more research into the products mentioned.
  14. Belles Plus Isobaric Sub I decided to go with a NAD 2200 instead of a cheap plate amp for my subwoofer but I now I need a crossover. What is the best route to go on crossovers? I am looking for most bang for the buck. I was told the sub could go down to 18 cycles. Recommendations much appreciated. Thanks, Seti
  15. Nothing wrong with glass doorknobs or tracklighting and Dorothy is dead sexy. Just won an ebay auction for that NAD 2200 I guess next week I can try some solid state as well as tubes on my Belles for the first time in a year and a half.
  16. I am running 8wpc SET but I am negotiating for a NAD 2200 amp for my subwoofer. If I get it I want to try it an me Belles for a while as well. I can't wait to hear it. Alot I believe depends on how loud you listen and what type of sound you are accustomed to listening to but just speculation on my part. A friend who has all solid state gear really didn't know what to think of SET after the first listening session but after a while he got to where he really likes it now he wants some cornwalls and tube amps in addition to his solid state gear.
  17. I hadn't thought of velvet pictures as sound absorbtion brilliant. I am going to cover every inch of wall in my audio room with velvet elves.....Bloody brilliant..... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=433&item=3867994389&rd=1 Elvis didn't die he just went home.
  18. Off topic do you think the hitchhiker movie is going to be good bad or ugly? I kinda wish pixar was doing it myself. Heart of Gold is the wrong shape but we shall see. What so terrible about being drunk? Ask a glass of water. DA RIP
  19. How about those vintage locally produced LPs. Some of the strangest things I have seen on vinyl were produced in low numbers in Arkansas in the 60's or 70's. We found one amazing 70's rock band very psychedelic and cool but no name just produced in Little Rock on the lp. The weirdest / worst thing we found was this album buy a lady and her mongoloid daughter her words not mine.I wish I had a scan of it the mother is playing piano and the daughter is playing triangle but the photography is so bad the daughter looks like a ghost and the mother looks sinister it is a gosple album. yikes

Yet another sub question. I have a nice isobaric passive sub so I was looking around at subwoofer amps and crossovers again. Many here have recommended the plate subwoofer amps with crossovers from parts express and I have also looked at getting a Carver or Nad amp and then buying the crossover seperately. Obviously the plate amps aren't as high a quality as a Carver or NAD amp but my question is do I need a high quality amp to hit 80 and lower or would a cheaper one be fine? thanks again
  21. Yeah much much better someone must have adjusted the Theremin Unit : )
  22. Mac OS X doesn't require adaware or spyware as it does not have the same huge security holes as windows which require you to run adware/spyware/antivirus/firewall software hmm seems like alot of software needed to safely just to surf the net...... It has seemed slow the last couple days sometimes it just hangs for a while so I just log off so I don't add to the traffic hammering the site.

That I can understand. You are right a diy kit would be very cool for the Jubilee. The industrial version is a monster would love to hear that....
