  1. Both KWS and johnny Lang make for some good listening IMHO,if the blues is what your into,as i am,then you'll certainly find they hit the spot.Sure there not BB, Buddy or SRV, but a lot of those same old masters heap plenty of praise on these young pretenders, and for good reason. Also when you listen to LedBetter Heights's all the more amazing to think that KWS was around sixteen years old at the time.I've been playing the blues for 35 years,i'd like to sit down for just 35 minutes with either one of em.
  2. First time i have posted a picture.Took me all of 2 hours to figure it out.I'm not of the digital age.
  3. One things for sure,as one of scientology's favorite son's if he gets help from their legal department he will be in experienced hands. They make the BOSE legal dept look like rank amateaurs.
  4. Sorry i cant help you with a supplier, but believe me the RF5's will not dissapoint.Good luck with your search.John.
  5. Hi all,so these old h/k's are still being sought after. I have a 630 and a 730 both sound real nice on my rf5's. the reason i'm posting is that if anyone would like the h/k 730 i would be willing to trade it for a working t/t or a stylus/cartridge that you deem to be a satisfactory trade. The h/k is in need of display bulbs, has a small ding on the far left corner just below the power switch, but works fine.I am not so much interested in "selling" it, i would rather that two of us could mutually benefit from it.Please,i am not trying to profit from this,i'm simply offering something surplus to my needs and i'm sure some of you guys have stuff sitting around as i do. I wont be around for the weekend but will be behind the computer on monday morning..........have a good one.John.
  6. Thanks Mark,i'll just carry on ignoring it 'till someone tells me different.
  7. I have a Marantz 1152dc amp,on the rear is a switch for a/c or d/c,can anybody educate me on the need or use of this function.I have switched it and can hear no audible difference.thanx.
  8. Thanks Dean,I feel a project coming on.I'll let you know how it goes, and the results.
  9. Theonlysaviour,i was once the "proud" owner of the same set up,and suffered the same predicament as yourself.I moved on to a Harman Kardon/Mission system, the cost was nowhere near what i paid for the bose system, but in terms of sound quality it was the difference between night and day.Don't be to concerned about the look and convenience of whatever system you buy,Lets face it you want to listen to it not look at it.After much searching and listening i settled on klipsch and up until now have been very happy with my purchase.Of course you are going to hear pretty much the same from most members of this forum. One thing will be fairly universal bose ain't gonna cut it.
  10. Hi all, just wondered if any RF5 owners have done any tweaks or modifications?I can understand the need if you own older Heritage speakers and want to benefit from newer technology, but it also seems that RF7's are getting in on the act.Is this tweaking for tweakings sake? or are there things that we can improve over what Klipsch deems to be the finished and presumably well developed product??. I'm truly interested and look forward to pursuing all suggestions in search of improvement.. John..
  11. Just for the record..Universal soldier was written and recorded by Buffy Sainte-marie.
  12. Yeah i was going to bid on it,but i could'nt get an answer on whether he would ship to Canada.Good score,i'm still enjoying my 630.
  13. Hi all,I hope i'm not crossing any ethical lines by asking this non Klipsch speaker question, but here goes.A neighbour of mine has given me a pair of Mission 780's,unfortunatly the woofers are missing due to an accident involving a child, and a pointed instrument... Apart from this they are in excellent shape and would compliment my existing Mission H/T set up. The question is what parameters should i be looking at while looking for replacement units? The original damaged speakers had been discarded and replaced by a pair of really cheap, and awful sounding units. I did contact Mission in England, they told me they could supply replacements, but the cost was around $160 CAN each. I did also find out from them that the woofers were made by Audax, apart from that i'm stumped, and again i'm looking to you guy's for help.John.
  14. Pierceb,I know what you mean,i am a big fan of Bruce Springsteen. But have never been knocked out by the sound of his recordings.Today i played The Rising through the h/k 630 the difference is night and day.It sounds like the difference between a slice of ham and a big thick T=bone steak.Hey i hope that makes sense to somebody out there! John...
  15. Daddy Dee,Sure is,my review probably did'nt do it justice. All i know is that when my wife comments without prompting about how nice something sounds, then i know i am onto a winner.Plus it has a nice classical, simplistic look about it.
  16. as some of you may know i recently picked up a h/k 630 at my local thrift store,it is now doing duty in my two channel system, replacing a Marantz 1152 dc.What a suprising little reciever.I can now appreciate other members comments on these units. I'm not sure i'm qualified to give an in-depth review, but i'll give you my impressions, and hope it may be of help to others who may be looking to purchase one. First of all dont be put off by the relatively low output,it is driving my rf5's to levels that the Marantz was capable of,but with half the stated power. The overall sound quality is clean and mellow, not tiring at all. Where did this bass come from? This is something i cant get my head around,i would have thought if the information was on the source, then you would think it would be reproduced regardless of the amp used. But as im sure you've realized by now im no expert,i just listen to music. The tuner ..I am listening to stations that i was previously not able to,loud and very clear, and it stays on them,i must get a good quality antenna someday. Well there you go,a laymans view,i hope its of help,as someone has already said "a lot of bang for the buck".Even more so when you find one for $50 of them bucks. Have a good one, John
  17. I second that, try it i'm sure you'll be impressed,Mine is now doing it's duty with my two channel system.I think it may stay there and the Marantz 1152dc may be relegated to the bedroom. It sure makes the rf5's sing.
  18. Well i've just finished cleaning it,it is in mint condition except for the lettering around the function knob. There must have been 30 years of grime on it.At the moment it is hooked up to a pair of Mission book shelves and im listening to Rock 101.1 out of Vancouver, never been able to pull that in before now,i'm situated at the base of a mountain that only lets me get 3 FM station on a good day,so far i've counted 15 stations that are coming in LOUD & VERY clear on the H?K.Gotta go hook this up to the rf5's.I'll be back...John
  19. Went into town this morning, thought while i'm here i'll check out the thrift store for vinyl, sitting there is a h/k630 twin, most of the knobs are missing, then i see a note taped on top"knobs in back room".Best of all...$55.00.Guess what i'm in the process of cleaning up at the moment?YOU GOTTIT!!!This thing sounds great.
  20. Thank's for the input, dosnt sound like this is something i should pursue, the search goes on!! John...
  21. Anybody had any experience with the Rabco SL8e tonearm? I'm interested in one thats for sale on a Thorens 125 MKll.
  22. I'm right with you Maxg,Maria Callas singing Mamma morta has to be one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever recorded.
  23. Thanks for the input, does anyone have any experience with audio technica A/T120E/T.I went into our local repair shop this morning, was talking to the tech who has one for sale with a new stylus for $80.00.
  24. Hail,Hail rock&roll..... Chuck Berry.
  25. Thanks Allan,i sure appreciate your advice,i know your quite the vinyl junkie. So what else would you suggest up to around the $120 mark.I don't know if spending more would be justifiable, although if i remember correctly the Sansui did'nt sound to bad.
