  1. Ah yes, business in America. One needs only look at the annual auto ads to discern the intent of marketing, product curves, customer loyalty, etc.... The "BLOZE" man was right. If you like that sound of what "BLOZE" makes then we'll sell it to you time and time again at the highest price the market will bear. When the new system gets tired and sales slow down then we'll crank out a shiny newer box with a snappier name or jingle. Quality speaks for itself but business propogates income. Even Klipsch focuses its primary business endeavors on audio-video speaker systems because that is where most of the current US market is. Big A/V retailers are where you'll find the most prevalent Klipsch product exposure. Audio purists are relegated to esoteric outlets and the enjoyment of the finer refinements in reproduction technologies. "BLOZE" doesn't give a "carp" about what anybody other than what their targeted customer profile thinks. I can guarantee it and will gladly sell you an extended warranty to boot!!
  2. 60s vintage Sylvania 12 AX7. U'll B astonished at how much improved the sound will B. Contact Kevin Deal @ Upscale Audio, 909.931.9686. He can fix ya up.
  3. I run a Jolida 100 modded by Underwood and upgraded with Sylvania 1966 AX7s. The new tubes opened it up much more than the stock upgrade tubes. However, I added the Musical Fidelity Tri Vista 21 DAC and found the combined performnce much better than the Jolida alone. Using the Jolida as a transport is perhaps a waste and I would be as well served with a much less costly transport.
  4. I've got my RS-7s on Omnimounts, nicely hanging from the ceiling. I used a solid hardwood board to adapt the RS-7 to the mount bracket and that was that. They hold the beasts very well at a turned 40 degree angle focused dead center to the room. Sounds great and looks good too.
  5. I built a recessed wall enclosure that is deep and wide enough to allow the RC-7 to breath. It literally floats midpoint and delivers sound from all directions. Insodoing I actually was able to tune that space to the entire system. All together the system sounds AND looks good having zero shelves, etc...
  6. Just a note. No DACs currently upsample SACD signals. Soooo....if SACD is in your "now" or "soon 2 B" plans you're relegated to getting just a good SACD unit.
  7. Don't know what prompted the heritage exodus. I tried replacing a pair of Khorns with RF7s and retured to the Khorns for 2 channel. I did look at the Coincident speakers and was impressed. Still for my ears the Khorns gives the best reproduction. Upscale Audio (upscaleaudio.com)in Los Angeles has a pair of Coincident Total Victories (demos, one is dinged) for less than half price. Good Luck
  8. I recently purchased the remastered CD of Johnny Lytle's THE VILLAGE CALLER (Riverside). It was a favorite LP of mine in the 70's and was originally recorded in 1963. I was extremely pleased with how well it reproduced. Yet, I've experienced several rock-N-roll genre CD versions of older LPs and have been quite dismayed. I rack it up to the quality of both the original and the CD recordings.
  9. I'de be a little curious about your "new" horns also. I ordered new K-horns in May and didn't see them until late September. Now I know mine are new because I was able to follow their construction at the factory. Check your serial numbers and confirm them with Klipsch. Hopefully you just got faster service than did I. (It's not that old K-horns are bad, but you need the straight scoop on any purchase).
  10. A problem I faced and not so sure dealt well with. Chose the Jolida 100A CD with level 2 mods from Underwood. It was "tinny". Then I replaced the Jolidas tubes with vintage Sylvania product and it was like the audio drapes were opened. Then I added an external DAC (MF 21 TRIVISTA) and voila had the reproduction where I wanted it. Now the JD 100 is a fairly expensive transport and its Sylvania tubes are totally out of the sound processing loop. So...I suggest investing in a good DAC and find a solid CD transport and connect them with a well made cable. This seems to focus the $ on the individual function of each component. Keep in mind however that NO DACs can upsample SACD players at this time. So your soon to be SACD/DVD unit will connect direct to your amps. etc.... Ain't life swell?
  11. C'mon now folks. Lots-O-happy folks here in Idaho. I live in Post Falls just outside of Coeur D'Alene. Not exactly next door to Twin Falls but another "Falls" city none the less! Idaho's a great state. Plenty of space, trees, clean air and water. As long as Washington ststae doesn't blow up we're in business.
  12. Don't mean to throw a wrench N2 the works, BUT...here's my tale. I 1st heard the vaunted Klipschorn back in the early 70s' at a Federated store and was thoroughly amazed and $ challenged. I had ushered at the Hollywood Bowl for many summers during high school and NO speaker better captures/reproduces the "live" in music. You sit in their sweet spot and you're at the concert: you leave the room and the same concert, simply stated, is playing in the next room. I got my K-horns in the mid 80s' and yummy happy was I!!! I relinquished them last year (reasons too long to recount here)and they were replaced with RF-7s. Got new K-horns in last week. These days it's not easy to audition the Klipschorn. Work at it, you'll not be dissappointed. If you can afford them and want to "do it right" the 1st time my experience is that they are the better option. Sadly should you buy them they will only deepen your quandary about what components to drive them with. I suggest tubes because they breath. Best of all to you.
  13. I do prefer silver to OFC or any kind of copper but this is light stuff. Suppose one could strand it. I don't use this myself. I employ the RS cables silver product and swear by solid silver!!
  14. Try listening to a Musical Fidelity Trivista SACD player. Their DAC made a massive improvement in my Jolida JD-100A and I use the Cary SLI-80 integrated amp.
  15. VenHaus Audio sells a number of DIY cabling products. Among them is a 25 foot spool of 28 gauge, cotton wrapped solid core silver strand wire. They sell it for around $60.00.
  16. Anybody familiar with the Theta Digital Compli universal cd/dvd transport??? I'm looking for a good match for a Musical Fidelity 21 TriVista DAC and data seems scarce for this product. Also I've read conflicitng input about the manufacturers build quality and product durability. Any help would be appreciated. Thnx
  17. I run a full 7 series set-up plus an RSW 15 in a dedicated A/V room about 4.5 meters square. The center channel is recessed. My Magnavox SR-8000 allows for the tailoring of signal strength and for speaker size for all of the 5/1 speaker units. The imaging is awesome albeit the sub can be a bit much at times. As with others, I feel they may work but the entire system must be considered in order to succeed. Isn't life swell?
  18. Thnx 2 U all. I'll plug the register and block it off with plywood. Much simpler and cheaper.
  19. Set up new system and all is quite well. However, I have a floor heat register located under one of my Khorns. You never can truly shut off one of those things and I'm concerned about the long term consequences. I'm considering lifting both speaks in-situ by placing them on three 8 inch granite spheres. ???--GOOD--BAD--INDIFFERENT--???
  20. Insofar as garbage in and garbage out goes, you may generally benefit from a good power conditioner.
