  1. The sad thing is, I think my mom would buy into that DVD rewinder gadget. Sigh. I try to keep her "hip," but it's a struggle. Well Amy my mother is the same way,at least we can assume they wont have to spend much on it!
  2. A DVD rewinder? P.T Barmum summed it up best. "There is a sucker born every minute"
  3. So I keep hearing that the HK AVR-130 doesnt have an on screen menu. Then how in the sam hell do I set the thing up? Does this matter? How hard will it be? Mine should be intomorrow but then I have to leave for Thanksgiving break from college so I wont get to mess with it till sunday night. Thanks Christjared,You should be able to get the OSD by hooking up the monitor out on the back of the receiver to a video in on your tv/monitor. I looked at the avr135 manual and the back veiw of it,although its not the avr130 it should have an S-video monitor out and a RCA monitor out.Its the same setup as on my avr525. You then have to manually change your tv/moitors source to the same video input that you plugged the moitor out on the receiver to.The OSD wont overlay onto other video in sources, only the specific video in that you chose to use. Once you change your tv to the proper video source, hit the OSD and it should appear. Tomski
  4. JT1 Im not sure if they still make that style still. MR Heater does have 2 new styles that are much more effecient, and they also include a oxygen sensor that shuts it down in low oxygen levels. But Im not comfortable leaving that duty to a feature. Ive icefished for many years,Thebes I totally agree, the sunflower heads WILL quickly asphyxiate you in a 8x8 fish house, you really have to vent them alot. But on a 1000 acre ice cube they sure help you stay warm. Allways use caution when using any gas, kerosene portable type of space heaters with proper venting
  5. Looks like you have the 8000-14000BTU Mr Heater sunflower head driven by a 20 pound propane cylinder.Good for ice fishing, bad for breathing. Some of those fan/heaters cost only 30-50$ and you dont have to refill them and you can use them indoors. Looking at the outdoor thermometer 37.2degrees,moving to Florida is by far my best answer.
  6. I do think its not quiet as common in the seperates world,I should have clarified this better, sorry, but unfortunatly it still does happen in that arena. Tom
  7. Colin I believe its in the Our story part.I changed an option on my directX setting,so having trouble getting on their site this morning, but it is there.
  8. Hello Scp53, Im going to limit my reply to home audio, but im sure other will be able to help in car audio. First go to H/Ks website, go right into their glossary and look up "power". If you are new to this idea, read it several times. Yes,much to my dislike,we are awash in a sea of B.S. when it comes to power specs. This is the norm not the exception If a company fails to include a parameter e.g. at 20hz to 20khz into 8ohms you can bet deception is at work. If a company fails to include ALL channels driven or leaves off the letter S deception is at work If a company has impressive specs into 4ohms and 2ohms but fails to specify at what parameter, more than likely deception is at work. You have to determine how much weight you give this when your comparing specs, unlike vehicles,Its often hard to tell what you are getting "under the hood" I hope this helps you and others who read this. Tom
  9. Does anyone know anything about this model? The seller on ebay says its a twin powered receiver like the 30 series. I tried to find some information on it but came up empty. Thanks Although Im not sure what year or watt rating it is, The twin powers were I believe rated into 4ohms and brief 2ohm ratings, they were very stable. Is it 2chx2 I assume Since its older, you will probably need to clean the contacts, bass, treble, ect. This could add to your costs Does it have a remote? Is it a digital tuner or the spin type, you may have to get up all the time to change a source. It wont have any digital inputs. but the specs are still good by todays standards.
  10. Cleaning Pots & Switches: Another tweak would be to clean all your speaker wire ends, pins and also your 2 or 3 prong electrical plugs.
  11. xxufo1xx This sounds like some sort of sound reflection issue. Do a Google search on "sound reflection" and see what you find.
  12. Good One,I forgot that below 30hz part. Also all my gear was bought before I had ever gone online.I do think that SVS would add to the minus 30hz sound and yes,I do like my subs sound above 30hz very much. I must say indyklipsch I like your sense of comedic timing,I laughed good and still find it very funny!!!
  13. Thanks DD you have guts! I will never say H/K is the best. The companies that lean more on sound quality, know who they are. Now time to reincarnate myself. poof
  14. My goal is not to alienate but to educate! How many of us here after first hearing these "incredible" claims from SVS guys, thought this has to be B.S. I must admit I also thought the same thing. Like many of us, I quickly went to their site. HMMMM, Maybe there is some truth to these "wild" claims. Now I look around this forum and many are now SVS owners. Now with that said here is another tasty tidbit. This was taken from the Klipsch manual titled "The Making of a Legend" On the third page is a topic called Wide dynamic range. It goes on a bit about measuring dynamic range, and then it lists 3 factors of dynamic range. 1.Sensitivity 2.Output capability 3.Distortion I will tell you verbatim what it said in regards to distortion "Distortion is occuring when a loudspeaker produces tones that are not present in the source material. The most irratating form of distortion is modulation diistortion. Klipsch Loudspeakers have the lowest modulation distortion of all tested at Klipsch laboratories". Now think about that for a second, Now think about some of my previous statements. Why do most of us love Klipsch,It IS because of their sensitivity, output capability and their LOW modulation distortions measurments, thats why I am so passionate about Klipsch/HK combos because they both have low IM measurements,This is one reason why I have never looked elsewhere. Now some may still reject my bold statements, and thats quite ok with me But I also try to back up my "wild' claims with factual info that can be looked up and verified!!! If you think my views are accurate please,Let me know
  15. wich models do yoy guys sugest for this price range?dont forget the new outlaw. i just got their newsletter.its out soon. Iwillwalk,I assume your going to buy online, I never have so I really cant tell you whats the best deal on the brands mentioned above. Another way to go though is to buy at a store near you, with the full intention of of returning. This way YOU determine what sounds best to YOUR ears, return it then buy it online at a cheaper price. I know my first reply, ruffled a few feathers,I should have replied without using names, I apoligize! However I do believe this should be a current topic since we are buying MULTI channel AVRs and often are first lead to a product by the ratings on the store price tag. It can be a bit misleading. I hope this helps! I have only read reviews on Outlaw subs. Spend time online doing research about the brands metioned above, and others. Read the reviews and narrow it down and go from there
  16. Cecaa850 Your the GREATEST!!!!I also agree
  17. Jgeraci, your certainly welcome to have your own opinion,Thats what makes this forum such a wonderful place! I also agree with the B/K addition. One thing that will never happen here is everyone agreeing on the same thing, well maybe on Cornwalls restoration or something similar. But I also noticed you didnt recomenmend Denon.
  18. Some brands tend to lean more on the side of packing as many bells and whistles, ins and outs that they can into a single unit. This is often done so at the expense of the audio quality and power supplies I cant say what is the BEST, but I can say this. Many brands even including "flagship" models WILL NOT put out their rated wattage into an ALL channels driven load. Denon and Yamaha are 2 examples of this. Bold but true!. Now I cant tell from your profile what type of gear you have,or if you like multi channel music over 2ch,video more than audio. If you need the max # digital ins outs and the a plethora of hookups get the Denon, at that price it is a very good deal. If you value sound quality over maximum inputs, real world watts/x7 channels then I would not overlook H/K. Also H/K specs include Transient Intermodulation distortion, a form of distortion thats much more audible than THD and for the most part not reported by other companies. Im a brick and mortar guy,so I cant tell where the best online deal is. But if you can find a H/K 7200 near the Denons price, its a great sounding unit that will beat the Denon in sound quality, dynamics in 2ch or multi. NAD, ROTEL ,XXXXX are a few of the other companies that I believe lean more towards sound quality over quantity. There are many other opinions, but this one is mine
  19. Sade,Sade,Sade,She takes me away to that special blissful place.Ahhhhhh!
  20. There are many "highly reviewed" models/brands that fail to meet their rated wattage in a all channels driven test. Some will also rate theirs at 1khz all channels driven. H/K always rates their eguip at 20hz to 20khz all channels driven into a 8ohm load.
  21. Sweeet Thebes,Im waiting on some Cornwall Xovers from DeanG. Should be here within a week!!
  22. Soulman,Ive owned H/K receivers for 26 yrs in a row! A claim probably no one here can make. So I am very familiar with H/K sound One thing that about H/K is that they do NOT hype their specs, and I have never heard of a H/K having problems driving any loudspeaker that Im aware of. Most people are biased about the gear they own, myself included. H/K is seldom the first on the block to get the latest bell or whistle, but I veiw this as a good thing. If you want more surround effects,input/outputs that type of stuff maybe the Denon would be a better option. If a better sound quality is your goal then I think you will like the 7300.
  23. I am not sure if I have power ports or not. What do they feel like? Is there associated itching & burning? must be in the wrong receptacle
  24. Nicholtl I almost wish I started at the outlets first, might have gone down a different path. Like I said in a thread or two,I like the sound Im getting but I was trying to find specs on my Monster stuff, other than reviews. I looked everywhere but never found anything technical,During that time is when I found out about the 20 other companies and PSA that made "PLCs". I might get a UO but thats about it for a while. And as for your pps I bet you will get a improvement even with that fine list of gear you have.!!
  25. Nicholtl, yeah thats what I was afraid of,I thought blue lights were all the rage.I replaced 2 sets of a/c oulets about 2 weeks ago with the power ports, and must admit I was very impressed with the improvement they made. Well worth the $106 bucks-took 7 weeks to get them to my door though. And Fini even though you may not be compensated financially for all your hard work and insight, you have my praise and admiration! and can you really put a dollar amount on that!!!
