  1. I was starting to think that I might need some album art on my walls to liven up the look a bit. Unique covers or recalled/changed covers came to mind. Here are a few off the top of my head: Beatles "Butcher" Yesterday and Today. I would actually like to have a peeled and non-peeled version next to each other. Yes a bit pricy, but we can dream right? <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /> Lynyrd Skynyrd Street Survivors. Another one that I would need two of showing the original with flames and later version with out flames. Not a huge Skynyrd fan, but I remember fondly the big deal being made in 77 or 78 when that all happened. Rolling Stones Some Girls with all faces before threats of lawsuits mad them remove Lucile Ball, Rachael Welch and other. I actually have this album already. So what you guy thinkGood idea or bad. What are some others to add to the list. Looking for more common albums that visitors to my room could identify with; though not ruling out anything. Also looking for ideas on how to display them with out altering the covers in any way. Simple frames or "plate shelfs", perhaps? Any other ideas for display?
  2. Email sent...don't have the greatest faith in the forum sending email based on past experience. Please respond back if you have a chance just to let me know you got it. Thanks for doing this! I am really excited to see how a new and improved set sounds compared to my tired old stock pair.
  3. frzn, can't ya just grab a saw and hack that speaker away from the TV? [] Surely it is never used. It is amazing how close the LS on the side is to the width of the TV. I have never understood why some company does not make a killer "TV-only-thing" sort of a high end monitor if you will. There has to be plenty of people who want a killer CRT picture, but don't want anything in the way of speakers.
  4. I am totally interested 87 khorns AK-2 78 Belle A and another A EDIT when I put my a's next to each other I get *** for the 2nd A. What is up with that?
  5. Thanks Bryan, that is a great idea. If I had know that yesterday I would have stopped off after work and picked some up.
  6. I still have my Chours for sale and will offer this up to help anyone out that is interested in shipping them. You pay the shipping costs for Forward Air (or some other similar carrier) and I will pay the cost of materials to build crates and invest my time to make the crates. The crates will be attached to a pallet then I will take the whole thing to the Forward Air terminal near BWI airport. Check the rates and location of a FA facility here http://forwardair.com/ I would still rather have them locally picked up.
  7. Out of your thee choices I like the Forte. The Chorus is not a bad way to go either. Bigger version of the Forte, with maybe just a little bit more refinement.
  8. Larry, I do have a protractor that came with my TT. I don't have a scale (gram gauge sounds like we should go to jail for white powder). If you could drop a couple of your longer ones in the mail I would appreciate it. Being that we are both in MD I would probably get them the next day. I will PM you my address if that is cool with you. Thanks, Rich
  9. I'd ask you to MAIL them but I don't want to suffer the humiliation (inside joke)
  10. I bought a used cartridge and the seller sent me three bolts and two nuts. One nut is hexagon shaped the other is round with a slot through it. Of the three bolts only one is long enough to use. Anyone have a suggestion on where to get bolts on the longer side and nuts that match. I guess they don't really have to match but I would like them to. In my mind the sooner I can get them the better. Cart. is a dynavector 20X if that matters at all. Thanks, Rich
  11. JTA, Not to sidetrack the threadok I guess that in fact is my point. I am curious with that great big space between the khorns why you did not opt for a screen and projector over the TV? Dont get me wrong it all looks great, but for a dedicated HT I would think the front screen would be much more theater like. I am interested in knowing what motivates people to pick what they do. Wouldnt life be boring if we all thought the same way? Good luck on the khorn fix, I am sure you will find the problem and love the sound once you do
  12. I cant pick just one, but I can narrow it down to these three: Hoegarden White from <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Belgium Sierra Nevada Pale Ale from ChicoCalifornia Rogue Brewery Dead Guy Ale from NewportOregon JB, I fell in love with Victorys Hop Devil when I moved from Michigan to Pa. Anyone out there into home brewing? My wife and I make 5 and 10 gallon all grain batches several times a year. The brewing process takes 8-12 hours. This leaves plenty of time for spinning any and all types of music. She plays DJ and I try not to scald myself with 15 gallons of boiling water.
  13. Ever see the Simpsons episode where Bart buys a bong at a garage sale? Says he is going to use it as a pencil holder. I think Homer has some flash back at that point. Bart: I bought this cool pencil holder. Homer: Heh heh, far out man. I haven't seen a bong in years.
  14. I'd be doing something other then writing you bunch of audio-nerds if that was the case.
  15. Silly it is. The pix are actually of the demo theater in the store I got my seats from and one of their clients over $150K job. I am more of the mindset that form follows function. They do have a "look at me" and "wow" factor to them for the first trip by a new HT visitor to your house. My wife still thinks we need a real popcorn machine. I think I need a $10K turntable, Blueberry and 2 channel amps instead. []
  16. I picked up Jimmy Smiths Bucket off of a guy on ebay. It has NYC address and vangelder in the dead wax. Nice and heavy record pretty darn good shape as side 2 is perfect and side 1 has two faint scratches. I cant wait to fire it up tonight. Original cellophane still on the cover with a price tag of $3.88. Not a collectors dream I am sure, but I am really only interested in good sounding LPs and not the collector value. So I take a peek inside the cover and see a small paper slip. Turns out it is the original receipt for the LP dated 5/24/67. Very cool, but worthless I am sure, piece of vinyl history. The receipt values for store, clerk, date, Description (BN 84235), quantity, etc. are all filled out by hand. Front and back has all sorts of info on the store including the line: For those hard to get records come in a browse Phone numbers on the receipt have the old school two letters in the exchange with no area code. DE 2-2737 and WE 9-7972. Very Retro looking. Since the price tag is on the cellophane and the receipt is dated with same price as the tag it might make a cool piece of audio art to hand on the wall of a music room. Anyway nothing earth shattering, I just thought it was a nice prize in my box of crackerjacks. Side note: The seller when the extra mile to insure save passage by using two old covers to protect the product. They were Styx Grand Illusion and Joe Perry Project. Oh how the mighty have fallen. []
  17. Audiophile grill cloth...snake oil or some science behind it? Never heard of it. Just shows I don't know everything.
  18. And my 2nd system's ticket booth [6]
  19. We have similar sized rooms. Mine is 13.5X16.75 and I don't hear any issues like that with my 7.1. I would experiment with the placement. My 4 heresies (surrounds and surround backs) are mounted differently so they don't radiate into the same plane if that matters. I don't know of any test DVDs that would send sound to both surrounds and SBs to check that. Not sure if it is even possible. Anyone else know of such an animal? My surrounds are horizontal up where the ceiling meets the walls and angled sharply (40 degrees) toward the listener. My SBacks are inverted (Tweeters down) about 1.5 feet from the ceiling and angled slightly (15 degrees or so) toward the listener. Does that give you a good mental idea or do you want pix? Don't know if it is my imagination or not but going form 6.1 to 7.1 was a great improvement. 6.1 sounded "odd" 7.1 sounds "surround-ing". I want credit for coining that word. Watched 2 of the 3 LOTR extended versions with the 6.1 DTS-ES over the weekend and man was that great sound. A couple of time the wife and I both jumped during some side/back noises.
  20. Thanks for the kind words. It was a labor of love and I am very happy with the way it turned out. Sure I would like the khorns to be 20 feet apart and have 10 foot ceilings, along with 3 rows of seats. But for the space I had to work with I am very, very happy. Come on down and watch a movie. I really need to get some comprehensive pix and post to the "show us yours" thread. All my posts so far have been for questions or parts of the room...I need a total set of "Glamor Shots" Maybe I can get CP1 to shoot it for me. What-da-ya-say Michael?
  21. ChuckEars, you were very lucky to find one for that price. If the average joe needed/wanted a decent Academy that BIN is a pretty good price for both buyer and seller. Since it is an "Academic" exercise what is YOUR time worth? Buying/shipping two Fortes to turn around and sell the other along with the time/materials to convert the remaining one to a center has to take, what, 20 hours? Oh wait you are stuck with a bastadardized forte...if you are lucky you can sell that for parts in the future and get may 100 bucks back. Decide you don't want your Academy a year from now and you can probably sell it for guess what $550. $250 for the single Forte + 20 hours X $12.5 per hour (slave wages) = $500 add in your effort to schlep the single forte you sell to UPS + the mess you incur when UPS breaks it and you are easily at $550. Buy the academy use it, enjoy it, sell it if you need to for what you paid for it. Not trying to nitpick you personally...just sort of sick of all the people who want an Academy, but don't want to pay for one. Supply and demand baby...that is what it is all about.
  22. Frzn, Click on the link in my original post and you will see more pix then you probably care about. They are in great shape. I have all 4 Heresies (surrounds and surround backs) mounted on the wall up high aiming at the listening position. Plus I need the floor space to move around in back. Right now my HT is dialed in and I am digging the sound and visuals. Not much more to mess with other then a better sub down the road. The Chorus did great as mains and later as a center once the Khorns fell into my lap. To tell you the truth I am still getting used to the Belle center. I think the Chorus had less localized voices. For now the Belle seems like is dead center and below the screen not coming from the picture. The chorus is taller so maybe I need to lower my screen now. Enough HT talk hereanother post on that later. I dont really have to get rid of the Chorus; I can use them in my shop/garage that is in the works or maybe drag them into my 10X10 office for killer computer speakers. However, I would like to see them get some real use by somebody that would appreciate them. Not having the passive I think they give you more options for HT then CIIs or Forte/Forte II and if it is two channel a would-be buyer is into they are nice for that as well. I agree on a lot of lookers and not many buyers here. But what the heckit is free to post and I would rather see a forum member get them. I will ebay if I find some must have gear and need the $$$. I have no doubt they will get more then my asking price on ebay in the fall/winter. BTW, your Belles you picked up look very nice.
  23. I have one and love it. Paid right at $1K for it. It plays every type of disc known to man. Great sound and video. Very well built. My only complaint would be the lighting on the remote. It does not light up all the buttons, just some of them and it is hard to find the button to activate the lighted portions in the dark. If all you can complain about is part of the remote they must have done something right. I was a bit concerned about the new format...but at some point you have to buy and stop analyzing, reading, testing, waiting, etc. I say buy a 3910 and be done with it. You won't regret it and you can start today to enjoy it rather then tormenting about what ifs for another 6 months.
