  1. Gas, propane, heating oil, and electric prices are all on the rise these days. I am thinking that wood from 1978 is good and dry. I just might have to see if the Belle can fit in the fireplace. I can hear the music now. [8]Chestnuts roasting on an open Belle[8][8]
  2. I got this from out vet when we had to put an old faithful family member down a few years ago. I am sure some of you have seen it, if you have not it is worth a few moments to read. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown...
  3. Man if you liked that one...check out the others he has for sale. The cover with the handcuffs and the bible, whoa baby, not to mention the one with the skier on it. This guy has pure gold.
  4. Between GaryMD, Allan, Parrot, Ben, Charlieboy and the rest of you vinyl heads I find it hard to believe that the BIN button has not been pushed on this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4059187992&ssPageName=MERC_VI_RSCC_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT It is even still sealed after all these years. Get on it![]
  5. Olorin, man I am soooooo sorry. That really stinks. We had a retired racing greyhound that we had to give back to the adoption agency after having him for only 6 weeks. He could not get along with our other greyhound. It was the toughest day of my life so far. I can't believe how attached I got to that guy in such a short time. Take some satisfaction that you and the dog had some good time, be it too short, together. Rescuing pets from shelters is by far the most humane thing to do over picking up one at a mall store or a breeder. There are just too many animals and not enough homes.
  6. Start Shamless Plug Or buy my chours as a gigantic center if you have the space http://mantistech.com/klipsch/Chorus/ChorusPix.htm End Shamless Plug
  7. If you can drive to get them and pay about 400 more for LS over Chorus I think you did very well. The look great too boot. So many LSs seem to get beat up for some reason. Not all like the looks of the LS. I for one love it. I think it is a loudspeaker that looks like a Loud Speaker even when nothing is coming out of it. Hard to walk into a room with LaScalas and not say "WOW". EDIT: I see you are in Alaska...probably not driving to get them. A great deal none the less...guessing you would have needed the Cs shipped too.
  8. Redtop, you still have your Panasonic 700? I love mine but on the surface that new 900 looks mighty nice. Perhaps an upgrade is in my future...man it never ends does it?
  9. Take the top sections off and wrap them in their own blankets. Take the side grills off and do the same. Secure the bass bins close to the cab in the upright position with the fronts facing each other with lots of padding between them. That would be my plan of attack. Drive slow, have a great time, ask the seller for any paperwork he might have on them. Ask about original boxes...worth a shot. Man you are in for a treat. Wish I could be there to see the simile on you face the first time you fire them up in YOUR house. Congrats and enjoy!
  10. I 2nd Gary's comments. What are you using for a center? At one time I ran Chorus with Forte II surrounds and I really, really liked it. I predict you will too.
  11. I have had a Carver TFM-25 since new in the early 90s. Used it with KG4s and Forte II with great success. I did not find it harsh at all. Quite the opposite. I find it warm for a solid-state amp. More recently I picked up 3 more TFM-25 amps (for a total of 4) to round out my dedicated home theater. I have khorn mains. CDs, movies and multi channel music sound fantastic to me and all other that come to visit so far. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> That said my background it primarily solid-state so I have less experience with tube gear. I have recently picked up a Scott 222C and a turntable. While there is a difference neither is better or worse. I like both the sound of a good SS amp as well as tubes. I do find that rock with SS and Jazz with tubes seems to be a good way to go. That could also be because I started to get into Jazz about the same time I got the tube amp. TFM-25s can be had all the time for about 300 bucks. You could try it and sell it if you dont like it with very little risk. Back when I originally got my TFM I auditioned several brands in the same price range and wattage. I chose Carver. If you find yourself in the Baltimore, MD area, give me a yell and I will give you a demo. Good luck, Rich
  12. I can find a good cartoon quickly, but Blonide (comic strip not singer from the band) is by far the hottest...not too bad for a babe from the 1930s. EDIT Found one!
  13. Others that know more then me will chime in about the set up. I would just caution you that if you don't know the condition of the stylus you might want to consider buying a new one so you don't damage the LPs.
  14. Being rather new to anyting vinly that was not sold at my 70s/80s corner store. How does this blue box collection compare with the MFSL "Collection". I have Abby Road on MFSL and really like it. Even at the high end of $200 that is not so bad as the 600 to 800 I see the MFSL set go for, or the 100+ I have seen some individual MFSL LPs go for.
  15. Part of the problem might be that the 3 had the sport and premium package while the 4 only has the premium and is missing the sport. Dont get me wrong, the 4 is a very nice caralmost too nice for a roadster. Way more creature comforts and a 10 fold better sound system (but who cares about sound when the top is down). Other nice things include auto lights, glass rear window, better heat A/C, fully auto top, xenon headlights, run flat tires, etc. Still with all that the Z3 seemed like a throw back to the old MB and Triumph days. It felt smaller and more nimble. I really dug the looks too. There was a minor body change around 2000. Ours was a 2001. That later body style had it all going on, PERFECT! To me the 4 is a modern day roadster much like the Honda and Benz, while the 3 had a cool retro look and feel. It was actually pretty Spartan for a BMW. That gave it a nice antiestablishment factor in my mind. You had to want to drive itnot just pose in it. To be honest I really think it is mostly because of the sport package. The 4 seems too nice and lady like. The seats without the sport package are defiantly lacking, in my opinion, in the side bolster department. My wife drove both (her car for the most part) and found the sport package to be too harsh. I drove only a car with the sport package before we bought it and left the decision up to her. Perhaps a fatal flaw. The first time I drove our actual car I had a sinking feeling in my heart for my dead Z3. I though I would keep that car forever. I thought some day it will not be a daily drive just waiting in the garage for nice top down days. Not to be I guess. We did go with a 3.0 this time over a 2.5. The 3.0 is almost scary fast at times if you are not paying attention. Quick off the line and 70 up to 90 on the highway is a ticket in the making every time I drive it. Once I get my funds replenished, say 3-5 years from now, I actually think I will look for a 2001 M Roadster with all the same colors (black top, black paint, black interior) as my beloved Z3. That would make everything right. Well almost. Olorin, I gave you a link to the crash pictures didnt I? Still cant believe I walked away from that crash. Some in the other car were not so luck and that haunts me.
  16. O, a deal at twice the price because the top goes down! [H][] I conned the wife into giving me the Z4 today because she does not work on Fridays. I said honey the Z4 gets way better mileage then the Yukon XL and gas is soooo expensive.[6] Now that I have 6 months in the Z4 I wish my Z3 had not gotten totaled. BTW, regular dropped to 3.19 here yesterday premium is over 3.50.
  17. All great points so far. I agree it would be nice to know what the goal was and what the current equipment is. Also are we talking strictly two channel or is there a HT in the works? I know I will catch some flack from the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Cornwall lovers out there AND I must admit I have a lot more ear time with Chorus and Forte II. However, for overall music listening I prefer both the Forte II and the Chorus over the Cornwall. I find the Cornwall has a great wow factor. The highs are high, almost screaming, and the lows are; to use a way over used phrase, slamming. Once I get past the man-those-are-some-A$$-kicking-speakers factor I find the C/FII are more musical. They dont add to the music so much as they reproduce it. To me the Cornwall is like listening to a system with an EQ where the user has just maxed everything out. I am not saying I dont like it. I am trying to say it is sometimes overpowering. If I was going to have one set of speakers for a house party where I wanted everyone jumping, grooving and blown away I would go with the Cornwall. If I had to have one pair to own and listen to day in and day out for all types of music I would pick the Forte II or Chorus. So to add to you list to consider I would suggest you think about a pair of Chorus (not Chorus II). For two reasons. 1 they are ported and dont have the rear passive that in turn makes placement a little more tricky in a smaller room. 2 I heard somewhere that a Chorus sounded like a taller, more refined Cornwall, pretty good explanation I thought. If this is a music only two channel system. I totally agree with Dr. Who about the lateral move. If you are talking HT and multi channel music then I think (and have used) Chorus mains with Forte II surrounds it a very nice set up.
  18. I just went though this earlier in the year...and very happy I did. All the guys here really helped me out. Check out this thread for lots of info and questions answered. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/1/523461/ShowPost.aspx#523461 I sent you a PM too.
  19. I posted in the general section just before the forum software changed. Maybe it got lost in the shuffle; maybe there is no interest; at any rate the post dropped off pretty quickly. Ill give it one more try. My great looking, great sounding WO Chorus with sequential serial numbers are for sale. Check out this link http://mantistech.com/klipsch/Chorus/ChorusPix.htm for more info and pictures then you probably care about. You can download a 15MB zip file of high resolution pictures from the listing as well.
  20. What was you budget again? If you want headroom check out the Carver TFM line. The TFM-25 is 240 WPC and I think the TFM-35 is 350. Both are on ebay all the time. I used a single TFM-25 with my Forte IIs for many many years and think they mate very well together. Recently I picked up a 2nd from ebay (about 300 bucks) and ran them each in mono mode trying it with both my Forte IIs and Chorus. Talk about power to spare and ear splitting volume if you want it. Way more power then you could ever want with Klipsch speakers.
  21. ....Go CRAZY!?!?...Don't mind if I do.... Ahhh, one of my favorite episodes
  22. Done! Thanks for all the advice and quick replies. The free delivery that most places (deepdiscount, amazon buy.com) were offering was typically 5 business days. Since my operation is in a week I figured I better spring for the quicker shipping only 6 bucks and I should have it by Friday. No chance I will be missing my day (Friday the 16th) to just veg out and watch hour after hour on the big screen while you all are slaving away for the man! [6] Here is to hoping the surgeon gets some sleep the night before and is not hitting the bottle too hard.[] I went with the extended trilogy. The trilogy was actually cheaper then getting the extended versions separately. I am almost looking forward to the surgery now. 6.1 ES should sound great. This will be the first real workout for the HT since adding my new Belle center. The few I have watched since getting the belle have been typical run of the mill movies, nothing too taxing on the system. Just out of curiosity what was sound (DD, DTS, ES) on the original DVDs as they were released? I picked the plain Jane versions as they were first released. Dont have them in front of me to check. Those versions sounded great. The extended trilogy should sound the same or hopefully even better. Thanks again on the speed and suggestions for sites to buy at!
  23. Any suggestion on where to buy? I must admit, with movies I am mostly an impulse buyer so I bet I pay more then I should when I am in a store. For a 3 movie set I am betting there is a wide swing in price between a nice store and on line buying.
  24. Ok, it has been a year or two and I still cant believe I did this. Some how I managed to buy a full screen (gasp) version of LOTR The Two Towers or what ever the 2nd one is titled. I am embarrassed to admit I got the full screen version after continually chastising my wife when she comes home with a full screen version of any movie. At any rate I am going to be laid up a few days with surgery to my wrist (car accident in March) and figured this would be a great time to take a day of recovery and watch all LOTR movies in one marathon session. So what better reason to scrap my FS version and get the letterboxed version? Now the questions. Which one to buy? There is the original, the extended, collector trilogy, and who knows what else? No time for me to wade through all the choices, as my surgery is one week from tomorrow and need to place the order or go pick them up. So I am looking for the experts opinions. I am much more interested in sound and video quality then I am extra features, commentaries, etc. I currently have all 3 movies, 2 letterboxed and 1 FS. All are the original DVDs with the shorter theater versions. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Do I go with just a new version of the 2nd movie? If so what one? Do I go with the longer versions of all three? If so are there some sets that focus on sound/video over extra content? Do the longer versions add to the experience or just drag things out a bit longer? I never read the books and did not think I would be all that blow away when I watched the first one. Ever since then I have been very, very happy to watch all three several times. Great story, great cinematography, great sound.
