  1. Check out SnipeRight as well. I liked it so much I bought it. 19.95 and if you email them with question they get back to you right away. 30 day trial too. Happy sniping!
  2. If you only consider the fact that they cost 6-7K new today then 4K seems reasonable. When you see historically that really nice pairs sell for between 2-3k (typically closer to 2k then to 3k) then to me it seems like this guy is asking for a lot more then market value. That said if I had 4K at my disposal and could drive to get them, check them out and I wanted that finish I would be very tempted simply because they are phenomenal speakers...not his but all. I am sure if you wait you will find cheaper ones close to you. However what value can you place on say a years worth of listening pleasure. To me I can easily say you will get 1000 dollars of pleasure out of them in the first year. So better to have them now and enjoy them then to wait and do without. Then again I have no ability to wait for something I really want. Offer him 2500 and go from thereworst he can do is say no. Good luck!
  3. O, did you read the article about 1 vs 2 surround back speakers here a while back? Very interesting I can't find it quickly. Talked about a guy testing different configurations with his 3 test subjects. Somebody give us the thread!!! Anyway, even with a small room you just might want/need 7.1 over 6.1. I think it convinced me. That and the fact that I have two Heresies to replace the single rear chorus already.
  4. Man, your stuff you do what you think you have to do...but my $0.02. 1) Get a smaller screen so you can use the LS as a center. 2) Raise your seating area to view the current screen when it is up high enough to clear the LS 3) Something I have not thought of I have a 96 inch screen with khorn mains and Heresies in the rear/back. I can't imagine how nice KH/LS all around would sound. Getting rid of that equipment when you already have it is hard for me to understand. Best of luck to you...hope you don't regret it.
  5. Ok, forum members this is your last chance. If it is not BIN-ed by the time I leave work I am going to put my money where my mouth is an bid on it. If I end up with it for 250-300 I will find some use for it even though I just sold 2 of them in the last few months and have no use for one. I bet it ends up going for more then the BIN price by auctions end. Anyone see a reason I should not do this...some bad karma reason I cannot think of off the top of my head?

Spring/summer and we are all mowing the lawn, swimming and going on vacation. Just a guess...but it seems to be that way.

  8. The first time I head Klipsch speakers was in the early 80s at a Frat house. They were beat to hell and hanging from the ceiling by chains. I dont know what was driving them but they were pealing the paint off of the walls. Blistering, a$$ kicking, clear, loud, Rock n Roll. I was amazed at the sound and the size. I said some day I have to have some of those. So far I have owned four different pairs of Heresies and currently own two pair. My first pair of Klipsch speakers were KG4s. I had been shopping at a used record store in Ann Arbor Michigan and picked up a few discs. I stopped into The Stereo Shop and the salesman threw one of my newly acquired CDs in. Echo and the Bunnymens Lips Like Sugar poured out of them like sonic gold. I bought the KG4s that day. As we drove away with the two boxes in my 1979 rusted out Subaru wagon I joked to my then girlfriend (now wife) that I doubled the value of my car by throwing the speakers in the back of the car. It was a snowy, miserable, Michigan winters dayand I had to drive home with the back of the wagon open for over 45 minutes. I did not care. I now owned a pair of Klipsch speakers. My wife and I comment on that one day every single time we hear any Echo song - it is as if it happened yesterday. I can see it perfectly in my mind over 15 years after the fact. The KG4 were sold to finance a pair of Forte IIsI still have the CD used price tag on it and all.
  9. I'm not gonna feel sorry for anyone come the fall when they are 600+ and selling as fast as they are listed.
  10. Hmmm, today khorns can be had new for 6-7K and that new VW bug is probably pushing 20K, right? To be fair the khorns are a lot more the same then/now compaired to a VW bug then/now. I would say this based on my personal experiance. Buying audio gear in the late 70s through early 90 seemed to be a lot more expensive then buying today. Sure I make more money now; but in relative terms buying London Calling by The Clash at 6-8 bucks seemed to sting a lot more then the 10-15 I pay for a CD today. Forte IIs new at $1400 in 1991 seem expensive when you figure you can get new Heresies for about that today.
  11. TK2, why do you say that? Vette, Took a quick look through you signature and dont see an Academy theremaybe I missed it. Have you heard an Academy between you Chorus in a HT set up? Fastlane, I think you are probably right. I would rather have the BIN and be done then hope for 350. Then again I have no patience. Not looking to start an Academy worth debate, just trying to save some new people from the mistake of having Chorus/Forte/Quartets and buying anything but an Academy. They really are the best center channel for those speakers and easily worth 400 bucks for one with straight edges and sharp corners IMO. I used an Academy for many years between my Forte II and for some time between Choruses. While I have not heard every center channel out there, I did have two others between my Fortes and they did not come close to the performance of the Academy. I agree Oak and Walnut command more money have seen WO go for over 800 bucks. 400 for a black one needing some work is not the bargain of the centurybut surely worth a consideration if you dont have one. I am surprised it is not gone yet. Maybe it is the 50 dollars in shipping that makes it just out of reach for some. I agree you can get Heresy/Forte/Chorus in that price range give or take. However, if you can get one of those under you TV and you want the right speaker between what you already have I think this is a fair deal. Summer time is probably why this is lasting so long. People are thinking of outdoor projects. If this was November I bet it would be gone in 2 hours. No connection with seller, just saying from experience, both listening and buying a new academy in the 90s and used last year, that is not out of line.
  12. A huge hangover. My father in law had an 80th b-day party on Saturday. Drank way to much Jamison with him. Splitting head on Sunday (Fathers day) Q. You know the difference between an Irish wedding and an Irish wake? A. One less drunken Irishman.
  13. Cool man, I am glad it made it. I had to be stealth like to find your address...was hoping I got it right. About 9PM I put 6 pieces on my TT thinking you might be listening about the same time. Then threw on the Miles Davis you gave me on Sunday. Just wanted to say thanks for the khorn help and the reintroduction to vinyl. Enjoy! BTW that 200g reissue with the shiny jacket is a pretty cool piece even when it is not playing don't-ya-think?

  15. Cool tool! 127db that is loud right?
  16. Sorry, can't help you with the SPL but anyone listening to the Ramones on LaScalas can't be all bad. Get some Clash to go with em and crank it up. Rock on, Rich
  17. I really have no idea what a fair price is for them. I saw this sale on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5761943177 at over 140 but that seems a bit high to me for grills. I guess if you need them you need them right. Anyway, I am not looking to get rich hereanything I sell in the audio department tells the wife I am trying to work on my Habit. How about 100 bucks + shipping is that fair? If not others chime in here and tell me what a fair price is for both parties. If you have any vinyl LPs in great shape I am open to a trade offer. Here is a pic. I have more if you need them but to be honest they are brand spankin new. email to rplace@*noSpam*mantistech.com --remove *noSpam*

Protective plastic is still on Klipsch badges, neve even installed on a speaker. I have one pair.
  19. Thanks for the invite T-man. For a year or so when I was a traveling consultant I "Lived" at the Marriott on Route 7 and worked in the Tysons Corner area. I know about where you live. Too bad I did not know about the forum (or you) at the time. I was down every Monday through Thursday and could have used some decent speakers/music.
  20. Kingpin? Neighbor: Hey Roy, can you get sick from drinking piss? Roy: I think you can. Neighbor: Even if its your own? what is my prize?
  21. Reschedule it for the following weekend and I can make it. Gosh Darn inconsiderate father in law (actually I love the guy) had to go and turn 80 on the T-A-Thon day and I got a party to go to in PA. Have fun with out me guys. Larry C, I was hoping to finally meet you and you as well thebes. Ask Gary if he got anything strange in the mail. I got 10 acres, a pool and a pool table, just not the stellar equipment that many of you seem to have, but no junk either.maybe you all can make a trek up to my place before the summer runs out say August-ish. I am about 1.5 hours up from D.C. in MDpretty close to I-95. Easy trip down for the Philly types as well. Any interest? Rich
  22. Figured I better beat Fini to the punch on my thread subject line. I am in love with my new Scott ampnot in love with somebody named Scott. Thanks for the info so far all. What about the two sets of zeros on the speaker wire connections? Reverse Stereo?? Craig. I grew up in MI. Probably planning a trip back this summer. Would a hand delivery of the amp for Audio Flynns suggestion be welcomed? Could you give it the once over in a weeks time give some notice? Id gladly pay 2 hours time based on the sound so far!

    Forte II

Depends on the location and finish among other things. Pictures help. I think you can safely bet on 500-750. I paid around 1400 for mine new in the 90s and would not sell them for that today. If you really like them find a way to keep them. If you are serious about selling them you probably wont have any problem.
  24. Just a few weeks back I was looking for locations and options for my turntable placement. I was thinking long range I would go with a vintage integrated tube set up but for the time being I needed to make my SS home theater gear work with the TT. In my mind I was targeting the fall/winter to make the leap into tubes. Well that lasted about 3 weeks after the arrival of my TT. I just have no patience. TigerwoodKhorns came to the rescue with a NOSValves reworked Scott 222C, actually the kit version LK-48 I believe. It arrived on Monday and what a fantastic job TWK did packing up that baby. TWK was great with the whole transaction. Fair price, great communication and superb packing. Thanks a ton Chris! I got the Scott hooked up in a sort of temporary fashion last night. Sounded pretty darn good. The first thing I noticed was the stronger, fuller bass over my SS equipment. Way to go Craig it is N-I-C-E. I think I got the speakers hooked up correctly. Used the 8 ohm tap. I have searched and read about the 4/8/16 ohm and will stick with 8 for nowbut open to suggestions. I Checked the forum for A=Left and B=Right. Assumed the "0" was for the negative wire is that correct? Sort of curious as to why there are two zeros on each row. If I read them correctly they are 16, 8, 4, 0, and 0 on both A and B channels. Any insight on that? There were two connections on the back for the turntable. Mag High and Mag Low. I am guessing for high and low output cartridge. Is that correct? I have a high output MM cart, so hooked it up to High. There was a noticeable buzz and hiss if I turned the volume up beyond 5. I posted a message about where to hook up the ground wire coming off of the TT, but that did not seem to help. This morning I connected the TT to the Mag Low inputs and the hiss/buzz was gone and the volume is a LOT louder at the same place on the dial. I don't need to turn up much beyond 2-3 now. What is the deal with the two inputs and what should I use? Will I hurt anything (amp, speakers, TT) by using one over another? I really dig the sound. It is so warm, full, rich and deep. And like I said a noticeable improvement on the bass side of things. I Still have a lot of playing to do with Tone/Bass controls; loudness switch; Reverse Stereo??? and the like. Any input or suggestions to get the most out of it greatly appreciated. I think I might fake an injury or sickness at work so I can go home and listen to all my stuff for the FIRST time again.
  25. Hmmm, too obvious I guess. I was thinking that on more modern pre amps or receivers that the little grounding gizmo you attach the ground wire to must have been more special. Thanks
