  1. I must be blind. On older Scott integrated amps, specifically a 222c or LK-48 where do you attach the ground for your TT? I have a buzz in my two tweeters and a hiss in the squalkers. Very loud above 5 on the volume (12 o'clock) and more so when I touch the finger lift of the tone arm. I am thinking the ground since it is not attached to anything. Any suggestions?
  2. Just about the time I think the world is falling apart and people are getting way to crass, self absorbed, mean, greedy and in general - just plain miserable Paul CBC has to go and throw a wrench in my cynical outlook. I had posted a message a while back about trying to get a MFSL version of Rolling Stones Some Girls as it was a favorite of mine back in the day. Long out of vinyl I am trying to make a come back one LP at a time. I just could not bring myself to pay 80 bucks for one on ebay. Well, Paul contacts me and says while he does not have a MFSL version he has a very nice standard copy of the LP. He asks for my address and the next thing I know it is at my door. The copy looks great and I cant wait to give it a listen to tonight. Paul went to the trouble to box it up, drive to the post office and send it out. He would not even entertain the idea of something in return. What a great guy. Thanks a ton Paul. I thought this might shed a nice light on the forum given the last week or so of quitting/banned members and the like.
  3. Man, sounds like a giant leap forward. New speakers, new room, new projector. Best of luck! Let us know how it turns out. I would be interested in hearing about how your PC works out and what video and sound card you end up using.
  4. Damn, I was hoping you bought two pairs over the years and had that spare just laying around collecting dust. Anyone out there have a WO they are looking to free up some space and line their pocket with cash?
  5. Parrot, Just looking at your signature. Belles typically come in pairs. Any chance you have a spare around? I need one between my khorns.
  6. Isn't that a Blondie song? Leaving soon...See you around 1PM. Ohhhhhh, a trip to GMD's house. Ears will be happy, but I will leave with turntable envy. Any blue pills out there for my Music Hall
  7. Wow, this seems to be just the ticket for my delima. Check out my thread form yesterday. crossover thread I will gladly be your first test subject. What a great idea and thoughtful gesture on your part.
  8. Glad to hear it arrived safe and sound. Feersum D was an easy person to work with. Quick with email back and forth and quick payment. If you are looking for a KV-2 I would not hesitate to do business with him. edit: That check was good right? I've been busy and have not cashed it yet Thanks, FD!

Are you saying I don't want to go from old tired AK-2 to fresh new AK-3? I fully admit I know very little about crossovers. I also don't want to make a move in the wrong direction. I think from Frzn's post I can conclude that A/AA is an option, but is it an option I should consider?
  10. KG4 was my first Klipsch speaker and they do rock. Heresies are tough to beat. Both sound great. I think you might get a little better bass from the KG4 but they won't be quite as in your face as the Heresy will. When I say in your face I mean it in a good way. Heresy is totally the approprate name for that speaker. In a perfect world I would throw in a couple hundred of my own dollars and get a set of Forte II. Great gift no matter what you end up with, thanks your parents and don't take them for granted! Let us know what you end up with. BTW, Happy Birthday!
  11. Thanks Frzn, I take it that you noticed a difference going from AK-2 to AK-3 and that you liked that difference? I would expect as the khorn evolved over the years that the changes were made for a reason. Hopefully that reason was better sound not cheaper to produce. My gut was telling me that AK-3s would be my best course over As or AAs. However, Ive read so much praise for reworked A/AA and new ALK xovers it got me wondering if the whole AK line of networks was perhaps a mistake in the mid 80s. I appreciate the parts list. However, given that my free time is so miniscule lately and that I dont think much of my soldering skills I would prefer to buy a new set of networks if that is my best solution. Do any crossover builders out there take in trade your old ones for new ones or are the old parts pretty much just thrown away? It would be nice to perform a swap like you do for brakes or starters on a car. You get the new one, pay a core charge then get that core charge back when you provide your old, tired crossovers for freshening up for the next guy in line? Probably not the case though. I did notice that my AK-2s looked to be a bit more work then my Heresy E-2s to swap out. On the Heresy everything is an easy screw and lug to attach/detach. Not so on my khorns everything is soldered in place. Can my current AK-2s be transformed into an AK-3 with A/AA type connectors so I could simply attach lugs to my current khorn wiring and bolt the new ones into place? Keep the info coming...Thanks!
  12. I need a crossover education. I have 87 Khorns with AK-2 crossovers. While I am not unhappy with them I think they could be better. In my opinion they are a tad lacking in bass and the highs/mids, over longer listening times, tend to be a little harsh. Dont get me wrong they sound really goodbut I think they can sound great. In searching I have read that the AK-2s can easily be converted to AK-3s. I also have come to understand that crossovers have a life of approximately 20 years. Mine are rapidly approaching that mark. I have also read that if going to the latest AK-4 you need to upgrade drivers as well. This I am not interested in at the moment. I read a lot of good things about freshening up As or AAs just to bring them back to factory specs. I also read a lot of good things about Al Ks universal A network. It was my understanding that the A and AA network were a lot alike with the AA providing some additional protection at perhaps some sonic loss. Is this true? Where do the AK, AK-2 and AK-3 crossovers fit in here? Do I have the option of putting original (old) A/AA or newly built A/AA clones by Bob or others in my AK-2 equipped speakers? Or would this be wrong in the sense that the AK series of drivers were so designed to work only with some flavor of AK crossover? If I need to stick with an AK variant am I best to go with AK-3s that are totally reworked and made like new? If I am able to use any crossover (A, AA, ALK, etc.) what do you all think is the best bet for my particular situation? Money might be an issuebut second to the fact that I am looking for gains in the sound department. BTW, My 87 Khorns are doing double duty. Mains in my 7.1 HT set up driven by Sunfire Pre/Pro and a Carver TFM-25 amp. For 2 channel they will be driven by a NOS Valves reworked Scott 222C.

  14. 1,000 That is about as exciting or depressing (pick one) as 89 dollar Heresies. Seriously great score on the speakers and congrats on the 1,000!
  15. Sorry. A month ago, the chance to purchase the Aries 1 did not exist, so I had no intention of selling my Scout. Unfortunately, that was then, this is now. Someone will get a good deal. ---------------- That is in fact a GREAT deal. I second the "nice" for offering it up here first. Even though I can't take advantage of it. Best of luck to you. I am sure you won't have any trouble selling it at that price.
  16. Where were you a month ago??? I would have been all over it.
  17. I find the exact car I want, with all the options I want, and then find a way to make it work regardless of price. If I can't make it happen I wait till I can. I bought one car that I did not absolutely love and regretted it from the day I got it.
  18. I have seen a few people interested in splitting a pair of Belles for center duty in either a 2 channel + center or HT set up. I am trying to gauge the real interest. First I feel sort of bad splitting up a nice pair but I am sure I will get over that. This is my criteria: They absolutely must be WO. They must be in darn nice shape. No drink marks on top and no major gouges or scratches. I am willing to wait for the right pair for me. Eventually I will find them. I am not scared about shipping as I will get some sort of comfort level from the seller before I commit. If I am not 95% sure they will survive the trip I wont buy them. I am also willing to drive a few hundred miles to get them. Given all of that I am pretty sure I will eventually find such a pair. So here is the million dollar question. Once I have the pair who is seriously interested in the one I dont want? I am doing the work so I get pick of the litter. I am not looking to make any money on the deal, but I dont want to give the soon to be orphan away either. I will suffer all the logistical nightmares and take the financial risk to get the pair to me. They will eventually land in the Baltimore, MD area. Obviously price plays a role. I am thinking 1200 to 2000 is in the ball park these days for Belles. Anyone interested in the other one at 1000 or less? I dont have anything firm yet, just putting my finger to the wind to see who is serious. Thanks, Rich
  19. I have two of these Garmin 120 and love them. Not just good for camping...but fun in the car too as you can use the GPS feature to track your moving time, stopped time, total time, speed, distance, etc. Never a dull moment. One of the nicest features is every time the two of you talk it updates the other person on your device. Good for "finding" each other.
  20. Not sure if it matters to you or not...but only one of the two has NPR. If you want NPR then get that one, Sirius I think...but not sure. If you don't care about NPR. Go with what others have pointed out as important.
  21. I have lived all over the country. Currenly live in MD. If I could live anywhere it would be Colorado. Check out Durango, Colorado Springs and west of Denver areas. BTW my last move was from a 1/4 acre subdivision lot to 10+ Acres. You got the right idea looking for 5 or more acres.
  22. A while back I got into tiki stuff for around my pool. Well, mostly for the authentic rum drinks actually...but that has led to a whole different obsession. Anyway, I had picked up this "must have" (according to salesman) CD by Arthur Lyman called Taboo. Actually it was pretty cool. Not sure what I would call the type of music other then sorta jazz and sorta 40-60 tiki music. Now that I am easing back into vinyl I was wondering if anyone had this album on vinyl and how it sounds or if there is a particular release to look for that is better then normal recording. Any other A Lyman albums I should seek out? I did find it on ebay and will probably pick it up. If you want to see what it looks like check this out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=306&item=4735481860&rd=1
  23. That is just the opposite of what happened in my case! Well, actually, both paid for the damage they caused but FedEx was much more prompt and professional. UPS declined it, at first, blaming it on the "improper packaging" and then strung it out for anopther 4 weeks before they finally paid. For now, I will ship FedEx preferred and maybe give DHL a try before I go back to UPS. ---------------- Do you recall if it was FedEx or FedEx "ground". Big difference. FedEx, from what I have heard is pretty good at paying out...on the other hand FedEx Ground (the old RPS) is terrible (my experiance). Never had a claim with FedEx non-ground, so can't say. As for DHL my Carada screen was shipped to me via DHL because of the size. The are the WORST, but that is another story all together. Carada, however was a pleasure to deal with.
  24. Sale pending to forum member...thanks to all!
  25. FWIW, when I had home theater guys in my house they suggested one dedicated 20 amp circuit for equipment only...and stressed that it was best to run all the equipment off that one circuit only. No outlets for lights or a vacuum or anything besides audio/video equipment.
