  1. Hopefully the photo made it through this time...
  2. Working on uploading a photo - hopefully persistance will win out.
  3. Can't seem to get picture to load. Help!!
  4. Dmitry - congrats on your new gear. Hope to get a chance to hear it! Frank
  5. I'm relatively new here at the forum, as compared to many of you. Since being around, I have sensed that there was a feeling that we Klipsch fans are excluded from some segments of the audio community. Speaking for myself, I don't really care because I know my speakers sound GREAT. To some extent this exclusion was most apparent in the lack of reviews of our speakers by the audio "experts" at Stereophile, TAS, etc. Now that Stereophile has done a review (or maybe a commentary) on the new LaScalas, I expected far more reaction from forum members. Having read the article a couple times, I agree with some of the comments above. The article does wander a bit, and there are ups and downs. But it's a rare audio product, if any, that is perfect. Let's face it, all speakers have their plus and minus factors - even Klipsch - there's always some one who wants more of this or less of that. Despite some words that aren't positive, it seems to me that Tellig has given the ultimate endorsement that a reviewer can bestow by actually purchasing that which he was reviewing (and, for most of us, we're not talking about a 'pocket change' item). The fact that Had (and perhaps others) bought the LaScalas as well is icing on the cake. Now, how do we get some one to review the Khorns? Congrats to all at Klipsch!!!
  6. Speaking of big and expensive (not necessarily in that order): www.tuberesearchlabs.com/products/gt800.htm
  7. I've had my 16.5 for several months now. Very easy to use and does a great job getting the records clean. Here's a site that has a nice "how to" video. Go for it! http://www.laser-vinyl.com/RecordCare/VPI_HW165.htm
  8. I'd like to get some additional information as well. My situation is similar. One of my Khorns is nicely tucked into a corner, but the other one is more of a challenge. Although the back wall is flat, the right hand wall - as you face the speaker - has the old style baseboard heating, which is rather tall. I'm against the back wall, but on the other side there is a gap of 3 or 4 inches, and I can't get tight into the corner. Although the sound is still good, I want the Khorns to sound their best. I'm not quite ready to surgically remove the heating elements at this point. Any additional help would be appreciated.
  9. Here's my Mapleshade Samson rack. I've been very happy with it, and plan to order a second one for my analog rig.
  10. I have a laquer finish on my Khorns. I saw a suugestion above for Murphy's wood soap. Any other good choices for a laquered finish?
  11. Scott - that Khorn looks terrific, and very snug in that corner. I suspect that mine are going to look pretty much like yours. Although I've yet to see them 'in person', the light oak and cane combination really makes for a great look. And we know the sound will be terrific.
  12. I've wanted to take the Khorn plunge for a long time and I've finally got two corners (one good, one fair) so here we go. I'm hoping to get them next week, although the weather may not cooperate. I know they're going to sound great, but I also liked the look of the oak and cane. Unfortunately I won't be able to set them up for a few weeks due to (seemingly endless) renovations. It's going to tough waiting it out. I'll probably sell my Cornwalls and La Scalas and will post something here on the forum soon. Any words of wisdom for a new Khorn owner? []
  13. Not sure if you are looking for equipment or repair. I can only speak to the latter. I had my preamp and tuner repaired (at different times), and I was quite pleased with the results. As mentioned above, not inexpensive, but they really went out of their way to make me happy. My tuner proved to be a challenge, so it took a few weeks before they got all the bugs out. During that time I had an opportunity to talk with Richard Modafferi a few times - very interesting guy!
  14. I've decided to get the TRL amps but keep the 9's - at least for the time being. I may find that having a choice is not a bad thing. Thanks for the input.
  15. Wondering if any one has had any experience with Tube Research Labs products - preferably their (smaller) amplifiers - hooked up to Klipsch speakers. I'm thinking about selling my 9's and getting into something a bit more modern - still tubes though. I realize the 9's are classics, but there will come a day when I have to get them updated anyway (that day has not yet arrived). I have a CD player that was modified by TRL, and it sounds great. I've also read about the quality of their electronics. Any input would be appreciated.
  16. Lots of good information - thanks! After another day, I've acclimated to the LaScalas a bit more. What was said above seems to be the case - sometimes the sound is great, and sometimes I want to hook the Cornwalls back up. I'm running vintage tubes and my son's setup will be vintage (I'd like to think) solid state, so there's going to be some variation from what we're hearing now - not to mention the different space they'll be occupying. He's going to have to make the call once we get them to his place, which won't be for a while. Just on a non-sonic 'note' - the design has been a real attention getter with some friends that stopped by - they sure don't like like your cookie cutter loudspeakers. I guess that we can consider a sub at some point, although on alot of material, the bass seems fine. Back to some more listening!
  17. Just picked up a nice pair of LaScalas from the original owner for a very reasonable price. Based on the serial #'s, I believe they are 1984. They were located only about 20 minutes away and have been very well cared for. They are lacquered birch and both came with original manuals. I'm looking forward to some comparitive testing as I also have a pair of 1982 Cornwalls. A quick observation based on a very brief listen is that they definitely have a different sound than the Cornwalls. Not as strong in the bass as the Corns (both have the same woofer??), but quite transparent. I expect to pass the LaScalas on to my son as I've put together a basic system for him (without speakers until now). Hopefully he'll have enough room in his apartment - otherwise I may be 'forced' to keep them for a while. That would be a shame.
  18. I'm using a Signal Cable Magic Power Digital cable. This is plugged into the Power Director. I'm afraid you lost me on the polarity - how can I check for reverse? I do have a cheater plug - came with the Sony. Thanks.
  19. Thanks for the comments on my system. A few questions were posed and I'll try to answer all - if I miss something, please ask again. The rack is a Mapleshade Samson. I had to order it in a 'custom' height - 60" as I needed five shelves (didn't have the PS Audio Power Director at the time). I was very pleased with my experience dealing with Mapleshade - spoke to Pierre and Eldon both a couple times. The rack itself is very heavy -about 150 lbs. So when Mapleshade recommends you assemble it where it will reside, they aren't kidding. I had some reluctance about the cones on our new oak floor, but the rack looked so nice, even my wife was happy! I'd like to try the footers under my Cornwalls - maybe down the road. I am using some of Mapleshade's triplepoints, heavyfeet and heavyhats; to tell the truth, I don't really detect any change in the sound as a result. They are, however, interesting conversation pieces. Ditto with the Power Director 3.5. I know it was written up favorably in Stereophile recently, and I may have been over anxious when hooking it up, as I also hooked up 2 Signal Cable power cords at the same time. More a piece of mind thing as I previously had no surge protection. It does have some neat features such as sequencing the turning on of various components. Currently I'm running just the 10B and the Sony SCD-777ES (modified by Tube Research Labs)through the Model 7 preamp. The 9's are running in triode as they sound a bit more open to me. The Cornwalls are great. I just don't have the right room for the khorns but that'll be something to work on.
  20. Some incredible systems showing above. Here are some old tubes that still sound great!
  21. I just ordered a set of the Golden Spea-Lunkers (if nothing else a great name). My speaker cables are very heavy (PS Audio Statements), so it will be interesting to see how they perform. I ended up buying a set for both ends - for my amps and for my Cornwalls. I'll report back once installed.
  22. I listen to FM regularly - probably 75% of my total listening time. I use a Marantz 10B tuner with my Cornwalls. Alot depends on where you happen to live - with a rotor antenna on a mast on my roof, I can pick up broadcasts from one moderate and one large city. There's plenty of variety and pretty much something for everybody. The FM sound is great with the Cornwalls - very 'CD-like'.
